  1. I think they were talking about moving those employees around to other restaurants in the group. They were going to open a new version of whatever the new 8twelve is in the Bayshore Towne Center, so that might be a landing spot. Restaurants open and close all the time, so this shouldn't be a big surprise. I'm sure having Braun's name on the building right now isn't helping, and the employees would know better than any of us if business is down.
  2. Agreed. This is huge. I thought his written statement was awkward and unsatisfying. And I don't know what's going on in the content of these phone calls, but just the fact that he's calling people is pretty remarkable.
  3. SURG is ending their relationship with Braun. The Graffito restaurant will close, and the 8twelve is being rebranded.
  4. I have a 10 game package for the 2nd consecutive year (about 10th overall). I'm going to renew for sure, and might upgrade both in seat location and number of games. It depends on what's available. My ticket account representative seems totally accommodating, so it looks promising. Now, we're in the Family Section on the Loge level (right in front of the media section behind the screen). I think I'd like to get down on the field level, but still behind the screen. Not sure how pricey that will be.
  5. I can't see how he could possibly get any meaningful playing time/at bats in September. . .and yet I probably thought the same thing in August. And July. It's not Yuni's fault. He seems like a pleasant enough guy. He hustles, and tries and doesn't make excuses. Still, it will say a ton about Roenicke this month if/when we see Yuni in action. There is no reason to take any time away from younger players. If they want to pinch hit him in a 7-2 game, that's fine, but that's about it.
  6. Was that Kurt Angle sitting in the stands in that screen shot?
  7. Colleges bring in controversial figures all the time, so I could see there being no shortage of speaking engagements for him if he chose to pursue them. And that really is what I'm getting at--what do words mean to Ryan Braun? Did he say "I want to be part of the solution. . ." and expect that to be enough? Or does he really want to be part of a solution? Even if he doesn't start making public appearances or whatever right now, what is he planning to do, and when? It speaks of his character. Is he going to back up his words with actions?
  8. In the end, he's going to get his money, so the only thing that is at stake is his reputation, and whether or not fans cheer for him. Whether that has any value to him is questionable. He lost some endorsements, but how much is that really worth? He possibly cost himself a chance at the Hall of Fame--but maybe not, if future voters decide it's not that big of a deal. To me, I thought it was the best Haudricourt column I'd read in a long time. I wouldn't expect Braun to answer all of the issues raised, but I would like answers to some. He's never going to confess to PED use beyond what he's been suspended for, but it's certainly reasonable to ask about what he is going to do going forward. From the column: You say you want to "share the lessons" you learned and be "part of the solution and no longer part of the problem." What exactly does that mean? Are you going to be an avid spokesman against the use of PEDs? Are you going to use your free time to encourage young people not to make the same mistake? That is an awesome question, and one that gets to the integrity that Braun proclaimed he has. What does being "part of the solution" mean to Braun? How does he see himself contributing to the solution--or was that just a nice-sounding throwaway line, with no follow-up action required? It looks to me that most of us are in agreement that Braun shouldn't be doing anything outside of getting ready for next season. Exclude me from that group.
  9. Sounds like the recent years were pretty rough for him. Very sad, as he brought a lot of joy to Milwaukee.
  10. I think the thing that puts me leaning more to believing that MLB had a mountain of evidence is that the MLBPA basically let Braun deal with this himself. Weiner indicated that when there is overwhelming evidence, they weren't going to fight for the player's interest. I don't think Braun is completely full of crap now. I believe he's genuinely sorry about this incident. I don't know if he's claiming that he took this stuff knowing it was banned, or if he's claiming that he took it on trust and is sorry that he didn't get it checked by team doctors, etc. From what I read into the admissions/apologies, I can't really tell.
  11. Brewers and Giants are tied for 13th/14th in Quality Starts in the NL. Rockies are last.
  12. But, if you are advising Braun what to do, you have to take a long term view. There is no point in subjecting yourself to more flogging than necessary today if it isn't going to make a difference to anyone once the immediate furor dies down. That's true, but only if he does things in the long term that satisfy those of us who remain unsatisfied. If he goes before cameras and the media, at least he will shut us up when we complain that he didn't do it before cameras and the media. Too many times, we've seen a written statement followed up with "I'm not here to talk about the past." That stuff doesn't work for me. I'm not willing to forgive and forget if there are still too many loose ends hanging. Again, I think his statements yesterday were a good start to getting me back on his side. But they didn't seal the deal. He's got to face questions some time.
  13. How Braun is perceived 1, 2, and 10 years from now is going to be shaped by what he does on and off the field from this day forward, not whether he made his apology in writing or in person. That's true. But we're not years away from his admission. We're less than a day. So isn't any reaction at this point appropriate? I'm most bothered by the posters who have forgiven Braun, and insist that everyone else must, and we better do it right now, otherwise we're haters.
  14. Because yours is the only and proper way to react to this.
  15. Time to move on people. People are free to move on, or to dwell, or to continue to bash, or to raise follow up questions, or doubt, or anything they want to do. It's really up to them. They can wear their Braun 8 jerseys, or their Fraud 8 jerseys, or they can ignore him, or boo him, or cheer him, or demand that he be traded. They can go to his restaurants, or boycott his restaurants. They can seek his autograph, or rip up his autograph. It's all fine. He is in a no win situation. It's of his own making, and it's been less than a day since his apologies have been issued, so maybe people want to take time to digest it all before they move on to other things.
  16. Just a thought, but has any of the other suspended players sat down for an interview? I have only heard of some issuing statements. If not, it may be a sign that MLB is still controlling what the players can say and how they can say it until after the A-Rod saga has ended. If Braun did sit down for an interview, he might be asked a question about something MLB doesn't want him answering quite yet. I guess it's possible--but I think Braun's case is done, and he should be free to discuss his own case and rightly deflect anything that would impact another player's case. I don't think any others have faced live questions, though Braun's case is pretty unique in that he has been very public in his defense. Trenni's tweet, cited earlier on here tonight was right on the mark. He should be as public in his admission.
  17. I think this is the biggest issue here. I don't mean to single you out, but a lot have expressed sentiments similar to this, and the reality is there isn't anything Braun can do or say that will alter the perception of him being a perpetual liar. At this point you either believe him, or you don't. You and others make fine points. I don't think he's a perpetual liar. I just remain unfulfilled by the documents that have been released tonight. There's so much more to the story, and right now, it seems to me that he is still being very guarded in the way he is handling this. I'm not trying to project my own standards of fandom on anyone else, but if he wants to earn me back as a fan, then he needs to let his guard down and answer questions. I don't need to see him weeping, but it might help if he opened himself up to the media.
  18. Eventually he will have to actually talk about this. I would hope that Attanasio would force that, but I don't know. I could very easily see a scenario where Braun disappears until Spring Training, and then gets questioned, and then says "I have made my statement, and don't really have anything else to add." I'd like to be outraged by all the lingering questions I have for Braun, but really, I'm more resigned that he's incapable or unwilling to be fully truthful.
  19. Well, the written statement and letter aren't nothing. He does take responsibility for using a cream and lozenge. But you issue a written statement when you don't want to face live questions. There's so much more to this story, and he doesn't want to tell it.
  20. I think I'm going to be glad when this month ends and they stop giving away those vouchers. The lines at the concession stands are outrageous. Too many people don't understand the concept of no change being given, so they end up ordering more stuff they had no intention of buying in the first place because they think that's a better deal. Good grief, just get what you want and don't worry if it only comes to $6.50. You're not getting ripped off! Concession workers are always friendly, but really, 35 minutes in line to get my kid some ice cream is just too slow. I'd prefer a little less happy chit chat and a little more speed.
  21. I would be glad to show it off to you and whoever else wants to see it. From this board, I've had Pedro and hofcs over before our basement was taken apart. It will take some time to make the space presentable, but I'll let you know when it's done. Your collection sounds great-- All of those guys from the 50s and 60s would look great displayed with some of the classic color photography of the era. Ozzie Sweet of Sport magazine is probably the most iconic guy. And autographs of Musial, Marichal, Snider, Berra, etc. are still pretty available and affordable. I think if I were starting my collection now, I would go for that postwar era, and do it with color photos. Everything I have now is B&W, and while I try to choose interesting photos, when they're all grouped together, that's a lot of black, white and gray.
  22. A written statement means nothing to me. He's got to face an audience of media members asking him tough questions. And not from a California country club, or at his agent's office. In Milwaukee, with Attanasio present, and without anything like, "I'm not here to talk about the past. . .mistakes were made. . ." A real apology--and even afterward, I reserve the right to dislike and distrust him.
  23. Not a movie, but I really like The IT Crowd. British comedy television from about 5 years ago.
  24. Braun isn't a cockroach, but he is a cheater and a liar, and it doesn't matter what A-Rod or anyone else did that might be considered worse. Braun is still responsible for his own actions. Just like all of us are.
  25. I'm fine with expanded replay in whatever form they want. I just want games to end in under 3 hours.
