  1. The Troy-Bilt that I bought late in the winter of '05-'06 was originally just short of $900 and I got it for $650 in February. New Jersey winters aren't as long as Wisconsin winters, so that February buy was pretty much at the end of the season for them, and they had a ton of them leftover on their lot. I mentioned earlier that I bought it at Lowe's. If you wait until spring, and look at a Home Depot or Menards, or Lowe's, or any place that has a ton of them for sale, you should get some good deals.
  2. Joe, I neglected to compliment you on your artistry. For not having the toy in posession, your rendering is very good! Kudos on your Whee-Lo memory and ability to napkin it.
  3. Years ago I bought and used an 8 HP Ariens, and it worked well. Now I have a Troy-Bilt (10 HP?) that I bought at Lowe's in NJ. Also good. . .no complaints or unnecessary service calls on either. I would definitely recommend a 2-stage snowthrower for the stuff that Wisconsin gives you.
  4. We will be returning home next week.. .hope that my birch trees survived this. . .http://bl136w.blu136.mail.live.com/att/GetAttachment.aspx?tnail=0&messageId=0cd4ba4c-e4d1-11de-ad66-00237de4a738&Aux=44%7C0%7C8CC46F4F3B112B0%7C%7C
  5. I love Gammons, and would like to see him resurface on the MLB Network, doing whatever he wants. He would be awesome on some longer feature, scripted retrospective shows-- maybe if they did a 30 or 60 minute special on each Hall of Famer, or the history of each franchise, or other historic moments. Kind of like the old SportsCentury things on ESPN.
  6. I concur on the Wheel-O. A mezmerizing toy in its day. . .
  7. For those of us who have been to the shows at Gonzaga Hall. . .He was the guy who started it all. . .And was a premier booth-holder. I was not aware of his story, other than seeing his name on the yearly show calendar. He didn't have a bit of pretense about him. Just a guy who liked sports related stuff. . . http://www.jsonline.com/news/obituaries/78616062.html Edited with my apologies on misspelling his name in the title. He was LeRoy Kilps, and the very least he should have gotten was for me to have gotten his name spelled correctly.
  8. Yup. . .Benoit, Eddie, Curt Hennig, Big Boss Man. . .all of those guys really struck me. I hope Jericho and Edge & Christian live long, happy lives. If any one of those guys goes, then I'm done for good. It makes me marvel at the longevity of the Crusher, Mad Dog Vachon, Bockwinkle, & even Verne Gagne, as disabled as he is now. While the old vids of those matches now look pretty terrible, they were very entertaining back in my youth.
  9. I look forward to visiting the new park. That rightfield overhang looks a little silly, but I'm sure at some point, it will just be part of the identity of the place. I like that it's outdoors. If nothing else, it should make April and September tickets easier to come by. If the parking and food are great, then all the better.
  10. http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/12/04/umaga.eddie.fatu/ Age 36 of a heart attack. He was fired in June for violating the WWE wellness policy and failure to attend rehab. The same story told again and again. . . I would still like to watch wrestling, but these guys are making it harder and harder. . .
  11. Can't you ask her to report to you at the beginning and end of her shifts? Just because the work is independent now doesn't mean that it has to be that way. And it's hardly an unreasonable request, especially from a supervisor. I would trust your judgment on this. . .you work with enough people over the years that when something doesn't seem right, it usually isn't. So what if the rules for her are marginally different than for others?
  12. Ha! Occasionally there are stories in the local news of people whose criminal sentence includes some strokes of the cane. . but I don't think being an inconsiderate goof is enough to merit the rattan. I don't know if I can do much other than call security. And he does generally shut it down after they visit him. We'll be gone in a couple weeks to come back for Christmas, and then back for good by next summer, so I don't have too long to endure. Just keep Security on speed dial, and I hope my other neighbors are as grouchy and diligent as me. And with hawing's story, and now danzig's, I'm reminded about how small my complaint really is.
  13. Wow, that's a tough one, Hawing. . . Hopefully you won't have any more incidents of this magnitude. Here's one that doesn't involve death: My downstairs neighbor, a college age goof who always diverts his eyes when our paths cross, , ,he's the worst guitar player in the history of guitar playing, and he's also averse to using headphones, and to following our apartment's 10:00 p.m. quiet hours rule. He often has friends over, and when he's not butchering some song, he and his chums are out on the balcony playing some sort of card game that invariably results in one of them making some loud guffaw. I'm often the grouchy old neighbor who calls the security guards to report a noise violation, now mostly just to mess with him. . . Anyway, I think he picked up an electronic drum, or some video game with drumming, as he started this drumming exercise last night around 10:30, and the sound was still going on when my alarm went off at 6:15. That bugs me, and if it goes on tonight, will merit another phone call. Though hopefully not his death.
  14. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/2009/11/24/2009-11-24_exknicks_player_critical_in_blaze.html He was the star player on the early Al McGuire teams, and has lived a troubled life since.
  15. First Priority: Dress in a way that won't let your wife complain about how you're dressed. Second Priority: Your own personal comfort Third Priority: The dress code of the masses And I'm with Bigredrobbo. . .You'll see people in all types of dress, from very dressy to extremely casual. Have a great time!
  16. Congrats to you! Any chance she was named after Kevin Mitchell? Not sure if she's your first child, but the 5 1/2 years since my daughter was born make the previous 42 seem like a distant blur. Enjoy. . .
  17. Agreed on the panicky kid thing. My experience was supposed to be that my 5 year old daughter and I were going in together, with her getting the seasonal shot, and me getting the H1N1. We had been talking about it, reading through the Berenstain Bears, where Sister Bear takes a shot even though she's hesitant. My daughter insisted that she was going to go first, but with me in the room. When it was go time, she put on the brakes and started quivvering like a puppy in a thunderstorm. I scored zero on the dad test that day, as I learned that yelling at a frightened child doesn't do much to assuage her fears. We left with me getting mine, and her a teary, sniffling mess. We go back again next week, as I'll be able to get the seasonal flu shot. Hopefully by then I will learn a little Mike Brady, and she'll be able to get past her fears and take one for the team.
  18. Got one today in a walk-in clinic in Singapore. No waiting at all. . .cost around $26 US. They don't have the mist version, and surprisingly they don't have one approved for kids. What exactly was it that they just jabbed into my arm? I go back in a week or so to get the regular seasonal variety, just in time for our trip back to Wisconsin December 11.
  19. It's an awesome game, though I haven't played in years. My only complaint is that for guys with no jump (like me), there isn't much room to approach an attack. I need all the space I can get. . .
  20. HA! Funny. . .because whenever I see a pic of Rich Harden, I always think of Jim Anchower. . . http://a.espncdn.com/i/headshots/mlb/players/65/5588.jpg http://www.theonion.com/content/files/images/character4.article.jpg Hola amigos!
  21. http://www.jsonline.com/news/obituaries/69621987.html She was a terrific local newsperson in Milwaukee, and later in life, an advocate for breast cancer patients. Sad news.
  22. The news source on this one is "Columbian.com". Ironic. I'm not surprised that he smokes pot. I am perplexed why he would be so blatant about it. And I would hope that he loses endorsement deals over it.
  23. I'm fine with the Yankees winning the World Series, but never again do I want to hear an athlete or team executive in any sport do the whole "We won this one for you fans--the greatest fans in the world!" stuff. A-Rod did it. Hal Steinbrenner did it. Girardi may have done it. "You've been there with us the whole year. . ." It just seems so disingeneous. Those same fans would have put Joe Girardi's head on a stick if they would have lost this series. They have been ripping A-Rod for years. Instead of calling them the "greatest fans in the world", A-Rod should have told them to choke on it, to say that he won this one for himself and to shut up all the critics who have been bashing him. Who's not a true Yankee, now? That would have been a much better speech. Also, during the awards ceremony, Chris Rose seemed like a knob. And Joe Girardi's teeth looked especially brown. There. Enough of that.
  24. Agreed that Donaghy is a low life, but Jose Canseco was equally scorned when his first book came out, and it turned out to be largely truthful. I would hope that the Donaghy book also contains truth. . .though if the publisher is pulling it for fear of legal action, then maybe there is content that can't stand up to legal scrutiny.
  25. They might relist them. . .or not. I think this was a consignment auction, where they were selling other people's stuff. Maybe you could contact them Monday to see if they would sell any unsold items at the opening bid prices, plus fees, tax & shipping. Doubtful that the seller wants his item back. . .
