  1. If this was the first baseball game you’ve seen, you’d think the object is to hit the ball softly. A lot of hard hit outs and softly hit hits.
  2. It feels like one of those games where the Brewers win 1-0 on a home run by the pitcher.
  3. Reminder that with Willy Adames, the Brewers are averaging 5.2 runs per game (4th best in the majors). Without Adames, the Brewers are averaging 3.8 runs per game (2nd worst in the majors).
  4. Looks like they’ll get 4-5 innings in, followed by a 1-2 hour rain delay. A solid 4-5 innings by Freddy would be a victory.
  5. FWIW, Sosa’s and McGwire’s numbers have not been retired by the Cubs and Cardinals.
  6. The Brewers are blessed. Uecker, BA, Levering, Grindle, and Lepay would all be #1 guys in some other markets. The fact all of these guys want to be part of the Brewers is a credit to the franchise and the city.
  7. Since the all-star break, Lauer, Houser, and Ashby have outperformed Woodruff and Peralta. That won’t impact who starts the first three games, but it likely impacts the leash on the starters.
  8. If you were off the grid the past week and asked to match a Brewer pitching line with the starting pitcher, you’d likely get it wrong.
  9. His OPS+ of 39 is the worst in franchise history, “exceeding” Mike Matheny’s 1996 and Tim Johnson’s 1973 OPS+ of 44.
  10. Trade Lauer to the Padres for Trent Grisham.
  11. That may have been the happiest I’ve ever seen a team for a teammate. They even waited for a second celebration after his interview. Amazing.
  12. The question is if there’s another Adames that could be gotten for Houser and Lauer, do you make the trade? (And then who are the potential Adameses?)
  13. Brewers are on the verge of falling to 9-13 in home, series-closing games.
  14. Could the Brewers get an Adames-type return by trading one or both of their young, effective (but non-top 3) starters to a pitching-starved team such as the Twins? Could a star position player like Alex Kirilloff be attained? With Ashby and Small in the wings, perhaps the Brewers could take advantage of their pitching surplus to continue to add young stars to the roster.
