  1. I'm not knocking pit bulls, but there is a big difference in what COULD happen between a pit bull and a dachsund. My friend had a Rottweiler, a great, great dog. But, he was very loyal to my friend...and in some cases, like say a driveway basketball game, he mistook the basketball game as his master in a tussle. It was funny, and he wasn't vicious whatsoever. But if he made up his mind to attack someone, even my buddy wouldn't have been able to stop the 130 pound lug. That's just a fact. Fortunately he never had a situation like that. But to pretend that there is no difference between dog breeds? That's just plain silly.
  2. I would also say needing a specific breed or gender is the same as looking only for a blue-eyed, blond haired girl to adopt. Well Al, I would say that you should go adopt a, say, a pitbull, or a dalmation that has already had issues from a shelter then...that'll probably work out for you and your young son. I mean after all, the only difference between a black lab and a pitbull is their hair color, right?
  3. Yeah, I'm in agreement with danzig. As I said, I liked the Bogut pick. BUT...there was A LOT of talk at the time about how they shouldn't pass on Paul regardless of who was on the roster. And it turns out they shouldn't have passed on Paul. I'm not giving up on Bogut, but Paul is a superstar point guard. It could have been worse, they could have drafted Marvin Williams, but they kind of dismissed Paul right from the get go and it was between Bogut and Williams. Is that luck? Or is it just making the wrong decision? Paul isn't in the same class as Lebron James, but who besides Kobe is? Paul is one of the best players in the NBA right now, worthy of the #1 overall pick. Bogut just hasn't been so far. And again, I liked the pick. EDIT: Hell, even Deron Williams is #1 overall worthy from that draft.
  4. Al, just how much do you think it costs to adopt a dog at a humane society nowadays? I'd bet you be surprised. And "flavor of the month?" So you're saying if you don't adopt a pit bull mix if that's all the puppies that are available, you're a bad person? It's not as black and white as you make it out to be. EDIT: What if you want a dog for a specific purpose such as hunting, protection, herding, etc. Not to mention sometimes you have no idea what kind of dog you're getting. You may want a dog under 30 pounds, and you end up with one that is 75 pounds full grown. Again, to call all breeders puppy mills is ridiculous.
  5. Yeah, that's a tad silly endaround. I liked the Bogut pick, but it was obviously the wrong pick as Chris Paul should have been the guy.
  6. I don't know if I'd necessarily agree with going the pet store route, but I definitely agree on the Humane Society. The Humane Society makes it harder and in a lot of cases more expensive to "do the right thing." Not to mention they false advertise their breeds, when it is obviously part pit bull.
  7. Devean George has a no trade clause? That's funny.
  8. This is Jason Kidd we're talking about. Dude is 2 rebounds a night away from AVERAGING a triple double every single game, this year at age 34. Devin Harris is a good young player, but obviously the Mavericks are in win now mode, as they are every year. I think it's even safe to say that Harris, being the 5th overall pick, has been a bit of a disappointment so far. But he is just 24. I liked the Shaq trade for the Suns, but Kidd isn't even close to a broken down big man. This is hardly highway robbery for the Nets. It's a trade that might get both teams to where they want to get to, but to act like Dallas isn't getting a GREAT player right now, let alone for the last 12 years is a bit much. EDIT: And Harris is locked up for five more years.
  9. I coached 3rd and 4th graders when I was a Junior and Senior in High School. My philosophy was make sure everyone plays two quarters, and after that, the best players dominate the ball. Only certain players of mine were 'allowed' to shoot from outside a certain range, etc. It seems to work itself out as far as the weaker players getting their moments. My biggest beef is that they stopped keeping score in my second year. I think that's one of the biggest mistakes in the new PC society we live in. Winning isn't everything, when I was in 7th grade I was on the same YMCA team as Robb Logtermann. We won every game by at least 30 points, and probably averaged 60 points a game. But Logtermann scored 55 of those points. I'm not exaggerating. Actually we lost one game to a team with Dave Jackson and Jim Jackson. Those twins played for Virginia Tech and Logtermann played for Marquette. My point is, it was probably the lamest season of organized sports I ever was associated with, finishing 14-1 or whatever it was. Not keeping official score actually makes lopsided games even worse. The last game I coached was an unofficial 62-6 victory http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif But there was no scoreboard, so who's running up the score? The kids know better. And if there was a scoreboard, I would have done things differently. Back on point, stress team play in practice, and it seems to carry over in to the games. But I would say have your best players handle the ball regardless of their 'positions.' Quite frankly your best players should be your guards at that age.
  10. I didn't read through this whole thread, but I'll give you my feelings on it: --If Sheets has more than one trips to the DL, or is on the DL for at least a month or so, I will continue to think of him as frail. --If Sheets misses 1/3 of his starts or more this year, I will be pissed that the Brewers weren't able to be creative and get something of value for him. Of course I left out the scenario of Sheets staying healthy all year, because then it's just because it's his contract year. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif And if that's the case I hope it ends up meaning the Brewers make the playoffs.
  11. Study abroad. I can't believe I scoffed at the idea when I was in college. And why no Europe? And don't worry about speaking English...because most people around Europe at least speak English at least a little anyway.
  12. The Suns just traded their only backup at PG? Man, a very good player in Leandro Barbosa won't like that comment. He's averaging almost 17 points a game. Shawn Marion was leaving the Suns after this year. And sure, Shaq isn't what he used to be, but I mean people are really just dismissing the fact that Shaq and Amare Stoudemire are now down low with Steve Nash, not to mention role players like Raja Bell, Barbosa, Boris Diaw, and Grant Hill? I bet the Suns win it all. EDIT: And the Heat were trading for Marion's salary slot just as much as they were trading for Marion long term. They may sign him, but it's not definite.
  13. My thoughts... --Tom Petty is cool. --I too hate the fake fans, that whole crap started with the Justin Timberlake crap. --Pretty voices isn't a prerequisite to good music. If you think so, go buy The American Idol albums. That said, I think some singers make their band better (Eddie Vedder comes to mind). But are you really going to diss Tom Petty's music because of the sound of his voice? Or Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Jimi Hendrix, Rush, etc. That American Idol attitude just makes me chuckle. --I was hoping they'd play "Saving Grace" off the 'new album.' Great song.
  14. I did a quick skim around and these teams (Phillies, Nationals, Astros, Rangers, Whitesox and the Orioles) would look at Vargas as an upgrade over who they currently have in there 5 spot and in some cases the 4th spot in the rotation. Teams like the Mets, Tigers, Indians and the Redsox could look at him as a LR to start the season and a fill in starter if someone gets injured. I understand that Vargas may be better than some of these teams' other starters. But that doesn't mean that they will trade for Vargas. A team that is rebuilding wouldn't be wise to take on Vargas and his $3.6 million to chase 75 wins would they? I could be wrong and he will get traded for something of value. But I'm not going to hold my breath. And if he's traded for a low level, low ceiling prospect or two, I stand by my statement that it would have just been easier and less risky to non tender him.
  15. Dude, Janesville has two strip clubs within 15 minutes of town. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  16. Why do I keep thinking that if the Brewers just non tendered Vargas, and non tendered Estrada (and therefore didn't take on Mota) the pieces of the puzzle would fit better and there would be $7 million left over to spend at another time? Getting "a bag of peanuts" for Vargas seems to be just taking the long way to getting rid of him for nothing. Not saying I disagree, just saying if that would indeed happen, wouldn't there have been less of a risk by just letting him walk? Think about this staff, along with $7 million to play with somewhere down the line: starters: Sheets-Gallardo-Suppan-Villanueva-Parra pen in no particular order: Capuano, Bush, Riske, Torres, Turnbow, Shouse, Gagne You could still have trade bait with either Bush and/or Capuano, and actually have your best pitchers pitching from the beginning of the season in what one would hope would be a season that ends with a post season. Just my opinion.
  17. Daniel Day Lewis knocks every role he takes (and that's not many) out of the park. If he's anywhere near as good as he was in "Gangs of New York" he should get the Oscar, which he should have received over Adrien Brody.
  18. I get four Brewers tickets once or twice a year.
  19. I got an IPOD Nano for Christmas from my girlfriend. I'm behind the times, I needed one, and I love it, however it's only 8GB. I really needed one with more memory (hopefully I don't sound like an ungrateful prick) I am not even half way through my CD collection and I have used up all the space on it. My question is, can I load all of my music on to ITunes, and then load different stuff at different times on to the IPOD itself at different times, kind of like a shuffle of sorts? And if it is possible, is it a pain to do so? Can I just go down the list and pick stuff until the 8GB is reached? I mean right now I synch ITunes to my IPOD and it all goes on there, but what happens when there is too much stuff on ITunes when you synch the IPOD?
  20. Peyton Manning the offensive coordinator who took away what should have been two easy touchdowns from Joseph Addai...to follow up KegStand.
  21. So if Milledge becomes a 9 time All Star, wins a batting title, jacks 470 HRs, and has 2500 hits, that's supposed to make this deal a bad deal for Washington?
  22. Water before bed, Gatorade and caffeine the next day. And get up and do stuff, even if you don't feel up to it. Have to agree with brettac here. Vitamin Water is also one of my new favs along with Gatorade. I'd also say that an underrated thing to do is SHOWER too. Duh, right? But I know too many people who just lay around without showering the next day.
  23. I'd say it makes the Mets look silly that they traded to get a C that probably won't play much. Then again I think Mota is a decent risk for a season and that his peripherals looked a lot better than his ERA the past couple seasons. But you're missing the point Ennder. They aren't even going to keep him. They just unloaded what they feel is wasted money on someone else. It's kind of like the Linebrink trade. If Linebrink was so good, why was a team in the midst of a playoff race trading the one thing those kinds of teams are looking for....relief pitching? If Mota is so valuable, why did the Mets just give him away?
  24. Don't the Brewers look silly now for basically paying a guy the Mets didn't want to pay, when they just could have non-tendered Estrada themselves? I think the Mets are laughing.
  25. Yeah I am excited to see them lose at Cameron... Well, I'm one of the lucky(?) ones that have seen this team play. And all I have to say is look out Duke. I'm not ready to guarantee a victory or anything. But I am ready to say that Wisconsin being unranked is rigolldarndiculous. Duke is going to have a game on their hands.
