  1. For those that are suggesting that if Cappy struggles tonight, he may not make his next start...I'm wondering, what are you suggesting might happen? Return to the DL? Trade? Skipped? I guess I should have clarified when I said I expect a move to be made, I meant a trade for a pitcher, whether or not that would be a guy like Otsuka to move Villanueva in to the rotation, or a guy like Arroyo, it doesn't matter, IF Capuano struggles tonight, you really can't ride it out with him. It would be a continuation of a terrible string of starts he's put together.
  2. He's just managing to the situation a bit more because the team is in contention. Someone's going to have to explain this one to me.
  3. Braun won't win the MVP award, but that doesn't mean there aren't two players on the Brewers playing at an MVP caliber level...which they both are.
  4. He's definitely been a different manager lately just on bady language alone. As far as the issue with pulling Bush before the big inning, yes, it was pointed out that Bush did give up a homer, a base hit, and then got the hook...but not too long ago, that's when someone would START WARMING UP in the bullpen, so I agree with AJAY totally.
  5. The reason I brought up Bo Jackson earlier is that he was so awesome that he could basically tell Tampa Bay to go to hell, knowing full well that he would be picked in the same slot the following year. And it happened. Actually Bo Jackson was picked first overall by the Bucs, went and played baseball, and then was drafted by the Raiders in the 7th round before he took up his "hobby." But I understand what you are saying. I'm just saying some basketball player from the US might go somewhere they don't necessarily want to go because otherwise they aren't going to getting paid, Yi with the Chinese government doesn't really have that worry does he? And the difference between pick #6 money and pick #14 (out of the lottery) money in the NBA's rookie scale is only around $2 millon over three years. It's not at all similar to the NFL where Brady Quinn lost millions when he slid to #22.
  6. I could see 4 years, $50 million as the hometeam discount. But he's better than Zito, only less durable. So his price could be scary No way on your first point, and I agree with your second point. Sheets is going to command HUGE money. I've said it before and I'll get railed on by Russ and probably others, but I look for Sheets to finally stay off the DL next year, have a great season, and break the bank just in time for the Brewers to get priced out of his services, not to mention forget about the previous three years of pitching just a little over 50% of his starts. I'm not saying Sheets tries to get hurt or anything like that, it just seems that's the way things work out. I can only hope that the great, injury free season I predict in 2008 leads the Brewers to a memorable season.
  7. I can't believe the thread has gotten this far and no one has mentioned their interest in how Capuano does tonight (unless I missed it). I've been waiting for this game since he exited on Friday night. If he bombs badly, I expect a move to be made sometime over the weekend.
  8. The only reason they're calling the shots for him is because they want to make money off him by marketing to Chinese-American fans. It has nothing to do with how good he is at basketball. Well that may be, but that doesn't mean he (they) doesn't have any leverage in this situation. If playing for the Chinese National team is considered "professional" then, yes a lot of that leverage is gone. If not, he can easily sit out a year when he's backed by the government of China...that's leverage. And he's perceived as good enough for a team to pick him as the #6 pick in the draft even though he said he didn't want to play for that team...that's leverage. Whether or not he ever lives up to any hype whatsoever doesn't matter as far as this situation is concerned. "Letting him rot" may be detrimental for Yi, but it's DEFINITELY detrimental for the Bucks.
  9. That's true about Counsell being a better SS.
  10. I don't know, I think debating whether or not Sheets gets injured too often is fine, especially since people will want to talk about how he'll need to be signed for HUGE money next year. The team definitely needs to go get another quality pitcher with this news and the fact that Capuano has lost it completely.
  11. Loretta is only signed for this year. The Brewers should have went with Loretta over Counsell to begin with...provided Lo was interested.
  12. This isn't some poor guy that wants to start making money, this is a guy that has a government calling the shots for him...he's got plenty of leverage. If the NBA considers him playing for the Chinese national team as not professional, then he's got even more, and I don't really see him sitting out for one year as too big a deal. The Bucks are going to have to trade him sooner or later.
  13. Yeah, I've said all along that I don't blame the Bucks for picking him, but all this doesn't do much for already decreasing attention span for the Bucks or NBA for that matter. I don't see Yi playing a minute for the Bucks, and I hope they end up getting value for him.
  14. Oh I agree davego, like I said I don't mind at all. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Just pointing out that I've noticed it too. And for that matter, I noticed Billy Hall doing a lot of the same thing from the game winning HR against the Tigers up until he got hurt. I can understand the Tigers HR kind of broke him out of a big slump and was a big HR for the team, but I noticed him watch a double that could have been a triple, and just admire some of his hits a little longer than normal after that.
  15. I've noticed Braun admiring his work more than a few times...I really don't care, but he does do it. And if he were on the Cubs, I can say confidently, that I'd feel the same way that the those fans feel about him.
  16. If you look at without bias, Kruk is right about Braun admiring his work a little too much. I really don't care if he keeps raking like he is, but if you don't see that he's got a bit of cockiness in him, you're either not paying attention, or just a tad in denial...again I couldn't care less if he keeps playing the way he is playing.
  17. The very fact that we seem to have the "Is Sheets injury prone?" debate so often itself suggests that maybe he's not the most durable guy around. Amen. I think it's a bit weird that people are excited about the call ups considering the reason.
  18. I'm pretty much lost now. The show's still entertaining, but I'm either not paying close enough attention, or it's really going nowhere.
  19. Saying that Capuano should be traded for junk, or cut, is putting words in people's mouths. Sure, I'd love to be wrong about Capuano, but I don't really want to watch him struggle terribly anymore. Surprisingly, Ned Yost alluded to a change as well after the latest debacle on Friday.
  20. I sure hope Melvin and Co. don't have the same attitude that a lot of people around here do...that the sky is falling and we should be benching, DFAing, or optioning everyone who is struggling a bit and replacing them with options that might not actually be better. I notice you left out trading...which is what this thread is about I thought. Capuano is not "struggling a bit." He's terrible right now. The Brewers haven't won a game where Capuano has taken the mound in over two months. I'm not saying he'll be terrible forever, and hopefully a team or two think that way as well. Because with the options already available on the roster to replace him, trading him should be seriously considered. They can't afford to wait until he gets things straightened out. I keep hearing that the Brewers are 8 or 9 deep as far as starting pitchers go...and that they are the envy of the rest of Major League Baseball. And while I agree somewhat that they do indeed have more options than most teams, the reality is that starting pitching is causing this team to lose a lead in the division that should not be evaporating so fast. I just can't stand it in sports when there is a major problem and an organization may already have a solution to that problem, but that organization keeps trotting the problem out there...trading Capuano alleviates that issue. And I'm not saying just give him away.
  21. Ummm OK...compare Zambrano and Capuano...that's the attitude I'm talking about, and still hoping Melvin has more sense than that.
  22. Al's right. People are getting too caught up in the money as if this is on baseball's scale. Take a look at annual salaries across the board in the NBA.
  23. I sure hope Melvin and Co. don't have the same attitude that a lot of people around here do...that everything is OK, and everything will work itself out. Capuano has no business being in the rotation right now, especially with better alternatives already in house...if that isn't at least somewhat of a reason to consider trading him, I don't know what is. Those that think it'll just work itself out better hope it does so soon...the Cubs won't hesitate to add more pieces for their run at the division.
  24. (By the way, NDOG, as a Raider fan, keep your filty miits off our boy, Jerry Porter! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Lane's giving him a clean slate, and especially with Moss gone, JP's our #1 WR) Yeah, LAST year would have been a great time to go get Jerry Porter, but the Raiders were probably asking for a 6th round pick, and that would have meant Ted Thompson wouldn't have had the excitement of drafting Desmond Bishop!
  25. Points to Adrian Gonzalez's slump in relation to Rickie Weeks's slump Can someone explain to me how this is even close to relevant with Weeks?
