  1. Prince went out of his way NOT to mention the city of Milwaukee or the fans. That's how I see it. Of course he has the right to free agency and whatever contract he can get. As others have pointed out, he's just not sentimental about the Milwaukee Brewers in the slightest, so the original post does have merit.
  2. And the sky is blue. I'm sure I'll get some flack, but this isn't surprising, and it's not because he was out all of last year. This injury, being out all of last year, and so on is/was a pattern. That doesn't mean he wasn't very good when healthy, he was just never going to stay healthy. You can't depend on Sheets as anything other than gravy.
  3. Sure, Gadzuric had a decent year that ONE year. Gooden's still done better than that every year in his entire career. It's kind of ridiculous even to compare the two other than the money they make/made. So the Bucks wouldn't be able to get rid of the contract after the second year? Who cares? I don't think they signed him to a five year deal hoping to unload him in two even though I know what you're getting at as far as the 'asset' part of the situation. The bottom line is that it's not that bad of a contract. He's a pretty good player. There are some people that don't like him all that much around here, fine. He's still not going to be a waste of a roster spot making $6M a season.
  4. Yes, it's funny how if Dan Gadzuric averaged 12 points and 8 boards a game throughout his career, his contract wouldn't have been so unmovable. Weird.
  5. But if Haren had Tampa Bay, Cincinnati, Detroit, and Minnesota on his partial no trade clause, what makes anyone think Milwaukee wouldn't have been on that list? Yes it sucks that Haren was acquired for what seems to be a pretty reasonable package, but I guess I don't understand why people don't understand that there's no use sweating the impossible...Haren wasn't coming to Milwaukee. And sure, I don't know for a fact that the Brewers were on that list, but I'm just going to choose to be realistic.
  6. You guys are forgetting about Haren's no trade clause when talking about the Brewers topping this offer.
  7. Weeks had some growing pains sure, but before this year he's averaged 95 games and 350 at bats per season. Injuries. If you are saying Beckham is destined to miss 40% of his games over the next 4 years or so, then sure, who would want him? But of course that's a tad absurd.
  8. I'd normally agree with you on your points RockCoCougars, but you're way off. While you trumpet keeping proven commodities over hot shot prospects, you bring up the names Casey McGehee and Mat Gamel? Come on. McGehee is a nice, decent player. But to not make a move because you have McGehee is what's asinine. I don't even know where to start with Gamel. You claim that Beckham is highly overrated around here. I don't think so. I think you're missing the point on how good he is supposed to be, and save a couple months this year, has pretty much been so far at his young age. Why does acquiring Beckham mean he replaces Rickie Weeks? That's small minded. Cheaper is not better, you're right, but why then are you putting Beckham in the same class as Gamel and McGehee as far as value goes. If McGehee has the same value as Beckham (hint, he's not even close) then why wouldn't they just pawn off McGehee and Fielder for the pitching they need, and keep Hart along with Weeks? McGehee is basically a throw in if you trade him, and I'm not saying they should trade him. He could be a nice decent player like I said. But again, not making a move for someone like Beckham because McGehee is currently on the team? Silly.
  9. OKC and HOU are the best run franchises and probably have the most advanced FO's in the league. The fact that they stayed out of the craziness speaks volumes to me. I hope Gooden buys into the system but I'm doubting it. That's why I hate going 5 yrs so much. He could very possibly be the #3 or 4 PF after year 1. Plus, as I mentioned, we need a 3 pt specialist badly. I'd have much rather given Reddick 5/32 than Gooden. Anthony Morrow, the best 3 pt shooter in the league, got 3/12 from the Nets. All of the crazy bad contracts were given out before the big 3 signed, which is exactly the opposite of what everyone else predicted. Actually Oklahoma City has a full roster and just signed Royal Ivey to put them at 16. Houston matched an offer to pay Kyle Lowry $6M a year to backup Aaron Brooks, and they paid Luis Scola (who may be a better player than Gooden, but he's also 2 years older) over $9M a year for the next five years. Oh and they will be paying a 37 year old Brad Miller $5M a year in the 2012-2013 season. So, they didn't really stay out of the craziness. I'll say it again, Mid Level Exception. If he's the #3 or #4 PF after year 1, it means that the Bucks have a good problem, not really that Drew Gooden = Dan Gadzuric.
  10. Once again, Drew Gooden was signed for the midlevel exception. Any talk of how bad of a contract he has, or if it's a GM defining signing, is a bit dramatic. I just don't see why some people are so upset about it. Have you seen some of the other signings this summer around the league? Have you looked at what some players are making and their production in comparion to Gooden around the league?
  11. Para has outpitched both Wolf and Narveson this year. Is that supposed to positive? Parra keeps being mentioned as a possible #2, #3, whatever. But even if he's going to get "dozens of failures" with Milwaukee and/or other teams, that doesn't mean it's not a bit pie in the sky to think that he's going to be someone to count on. The proof is in the pudding...he's not good.
  12. I've seen nothing anywhere about Davis' CEILING being as a 3-4 man in the rotation. That's what he might become, sure, but the same goes for anyone. His CEILING is the same as Moore's...a top of the rotation starting pitcher. I've seen him compared to John Lackey. I've seen him listed as a possible future ace. I've never seen his ceiling as being what he is now at this moment, on a contending team.
  13. I just don't get the hype about Beckham, now we are comparing him to MJ? I take it Gamel would be our Sam Bowie then. What makes any of you think that Beckham is so much better than Gamel or Weeks/ McGehee for that mater? 3b/2b is the only position where this organization has a logjam of talent, and you want to add another to the mix? Again, one of these guys can play 1B. Who's going to replace Prince? And you're assuming that Weeks will stay long term as well. So you'd pass on a potential trade because there are four guys that would be needed for three positions, without even considering a possible need in the OF, OR the possibility that some other moves could be made? Is this because Beckham has been awful in the first half? Don't look now, but he's heating up and it would be a mistake to dismiss him because of a bad half season at his age. As far as the MJ/Sam Bowie stuff, that flew right over my head. I have no idea what you're talking about, or why you're acting as if people are comparing Beckham to MJ.
  14. Not wanting Beckham because he plays 3B is being shortsighted. If you can get a potential stud pitcher AND a potential future all star position player that would be great. As others have mentioned, someone is going to have to play 1B if Fielder is gone. The "logjam" at 3B would work itself out very easily in my opinion.
  15. I think it's obvious that Doug prefers Moore because the scouts love him and his ceiling more than Davis. I'm sorry Al, but there's nothing "obvious" about it. Like I said earlier, I have no idea why Davis is being short changed a bit around here. He's done nothing to change his lofty prospect status this year unless you hold it against him that he's been pretty decent pitching for a contending team's rotation.
  16. Yes, I was going to say that too about Gamel. If Gamel is ruined and/or isn't thought of as the leading candidate to replace Fielder...or if he's not going to be ready until 2012 when Fielder/Hart/Weeks are potentially gone, then what is the point in keeping at this point? If you could trade Fielder right now for a package like Sweeney, Davis, AND Moore (not saying that trade specifically), I would be all for looking in to keeping Hart long term.
  17. I don't think people are saying that they should move on if they can't MLB ready pitching. I don't think anyone is saying even close to that. I think for some reason or another Wade Davis is being treated as some kind of low ceiling guy BECAUSE he's pitching at the major league level at the current time by people around here. I don't know if that makes any sense, but I don't know how to put it any other way, and I don't understand it. Moore or Davis? To me, since they're so close in rankings (both are top 5 in Tampa Bay's system, both are top 50 overall in baseball) the fact that Davis IS ready makes my decision easier. It's got nothing to do with not wanting to wait for the better pitcher for two years. As X pointed out, where are people seeing that Moore IS the better pitcher of the two? Because a report said that Tampa would rather trade Davis, and the Brewers would rather have Moore? Wade Davis is a highly rated prospect that has a high ceiling, and just so happens to already be pitching for a team in a pennant race right now, and could be had because of pitching depth in that team's organization. But he's not good enough for the pitching starved Milwaukee Brewers? But a guy that in two years might be where Davis is now is? MIGHT be. I don't get it at all.
  18. I recall a year or two ago, some NFL team in need of a QB was rumored to be thinking of trading a solid player (OL, if memory serves). Supposedly, they had 2 deals on the table: 1. A 1st round pick, but not the upcoming draft, the next year. 2. A journeyman QB, solid backup, some experience starting, and a 3rd/4th round pick in the draft soon to arrive. Now, to me, this was an easy call...a 1st round pick had far more worth, in my opinion. But, the results of a poll was 4-1...get the QB and later round pick. The comments read like a "win today, forget about tomorrow" manifesto. I barely follow the NFL, but I don't think a trade was ever made, I believe they ended up signing him to an extension or branding him a "franchise" player, or whatever. I do recall though thinking that not only were the fans far too emotional, that 80% of them would make horrible GM's. I would love to know who the heck you're talking about, sounds made up. Journeyman backup QB? Over a future first round pick? And then was franchised? Or the OL was franchised? Details would be nice to know what you're talking about. Anyway, that's a pretty bad example when you're comparing Moore and Davis anyway. If he's widely recognized as a better prospect than Davis (which is debatable), it's not by much (3rd best vs. 4th best in the system type of difference). So if they're pretty darn even, yeah I'll take the guy that can be plugged in on the Brewers right now over the guy that may never even get to AA (injuries, decline). We're not talking about some journeyman backup QB and a 3rd round pick over a future first round pick whatsoever.
  19. Yeah, wouldn't you want to stagger your players a little bit? Why have all your eggs in one basket with a bunch of young players at the exact same time. So even with a guy like Moore, they're not really throwing in the towel for the rest of 2010 and 2011. They're essentially going to go through growing pains in 2012 and maybe 2013 as well if they're all rookies. And then a few years down the road, they're all free agents at the same time. Put me down for Wade Davis.
  20. If Lebron didn't think that the Cavaliers were anywhere close to a championship, then he must think that he couldn't do it without Wade and/or Bosh. So, you could be right fondybrewfan. But that would be an indictment on himself as the go to player/leader. The Cavs had the best record in the NBA last year, and have already been to the Finals with Lebron. When one of these three guys gets hurt for the first time, it will be interesting to see them fold.
  21. No, it is 10-15 years for anyone. I don't agree at all. But let's pretend you are correct. Why should I care more than a couple times in my lifetime then?
  22. There's a phrase that comes to mind. I believe there was a thread with the same title.
  23. It's the mid level exception. A lot of overreaction on this thread.
  24. Fear The Deer is appealing to a guy that played on one of the worst teams in NBA history, and a guy that gets a shot as the 47th pick in the draft with one of his old school teammates...let's not blow FTD out of proportion. It's great to see guys excited to come to the Bucks, but honestly these two would have been just as excited to go anywhere other than New Jersey in CDR's case, and anywhere in Gallon's case. Chris Bosh is not coming to Milwaukee.
