  1. Congrats! Will you serve brats too?
  2. My wife just discovered Abbott Elementary. I was surprised how much I liked it. It's like The Office meets Parks & Rec meets Lean on Me (with blatant Jim/Pam plot rip-off of The Office). Given Randall Einhorn's involvement in The Office and Parks & Rec, this shouldn't surprise me.
  3. Finally got around to seeing Nobody on HBO and boy is that a fun flick. I didn't think Bob Odenkirk could pull action hero but he totally did.
  4. Does anyone know of a good "portfolio" return on investment calculator? I'm not looking to do forecasting, but I do want to know how I'm doing compared to certain benchmarks. With a Roth IRA at one place and a 401K at another plus individual stocks and some crypto I find it hard to get a single percentage. It'd be easier if I bought everything on a single date but I dollar cost average almost every investment. So does that mean I have to calculate each monthly purchase if I want an accurate #? Or does an average get me pretty close?
  5. I'm really enjoying this one and that's coming from someone that's gotten pretty tired of the comic book genre. The soundtrack in particular is right up my Gen X alley Another one I am enjoying is Murderville on Netflix. Pretty funny. Marshawn Lynch doing improv. Has anyone checked out The Afterparty on Apple TV?
  6. I'll second the Sparks Brothers recommendation. My wife actually bought tickets to a show after watching that movie.
  7. Yeah Dark is kind of amazing. If anyone likes horror, Archive 81 on Netflix is pretty good.
  8. The other thing about owning a home is that it's an investment that you can utilize. You have to live somewhere might as well live in a place that also can provide you a return when you stop living there. I can't "use" my 401K or my stocks. I can live in and enjoy a home.
  9. Season 1 of The Fall was great. I didn't watch past that though.
  10. I'm not even sure a lot of folks are waiting for anything. There's a major shifting demographic with more people not having kids at all, getting married later...I think way more people are now just happy to rent perpetually and not deal with any of the burden that can come with a house. There are plenty of markets where home values are outpacing rent by quite a large margin. Best to research if you are on the fence and moving to a new city. https://www.forbes.com/advisor/mortgages/states-with-highest-rent-hikes/ I don't know if this is still the case, but there was a big difference between home and a condo values after Covid. A lot of people wanted yards and what not so condos could be had for pretty cheap (comparatively). edit: looks like condos came back big time. At least here in Chicago. https://www.chicagobusiness.com/residential-real-estate/chicago-condo-comeback-led-fall-housing-market
  11. Is there still value to putting down 20% to avoid PMI? I know some of the borrowing rules have changed since I bought back in 2006.
  12. Watch out for the hippos https://www.nbcnews.com/news/animal-news/pablo-escobar-s-cocaine-hippos-can-be-legally-recognized-people-n1282292
  13. Typically yeah because the interest can be like 6%. I refinanced my grad school loans and got mine down to 3.15% so I'm fine just paying the minimum. Speaking of, refinancing student loans can save you a boatload. I cut my interest by over 50%. 17 months to go! When I owned a condo, my interest was over 6% so I wanted to try and pay extra on it.
  14. I really liked Top of the Lake. Did you happen to watch Season 2 by chance? I kept meaning to and just forgot about it.
  15. That's what I did when I owned property. I ended up making one extra mortgage payment a year.

    Pizza

I can almost guarantee that is because pepperoni just looks nicer than sausage on TV. You get the red to pop on the white cheese. Looks better than brown/gray sausage.

    Pizza

If anyone is interested in making their own pizza sausage, this recipe worked well for me: https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/16539/italian-style-sausage/ I substituted ground fennel for the crushed anise.

Trying this out on Saturday. Better be good I went full out and made my own sauce and my own sausage in addition to using the dough recipe above. It turned out pretty good but I wasn't super happy with my crust. It was fine. I think the recipe is legit - I am just not a very experienced baker. I don't think I let it proof long enough. Also I wish my oven went to 550 but oh well. It's a very easy recipe so I will definitely be trying it again soon. OK have to amend this...I only used half the dough last night and just made the other half today. The extra proofing time really helped.

Very nice! I assume you have it on a patio or something? I want one of those at some point in my life.

Just had Lou Malnati's, and I actually like Rockys a lot more. I get it's unique, but I get a huge craving for it every few months. Extra cheezy super-rony and side of breadsticks? Yes please. I really like Lou Malnati's thin crust

I had good success using the conventional oven to reheat pizza. I think I did 400 degrees for like 6 - 8 minutes. That was back when I was single and getting two Domino's mediums for $12 (or whatever the deal was).
