  1. He pitched a simulated game a day or two ago so he couldn't go more than an inning.
  2. There was a rumor floating around that the Brewers had shelled out a lot of money for a young Dominican kid but they couldn't announce it until July. Can someone remind me of that kid's name? I perused the Minor League threads but didn't see anything. Maybe I didn't go back far enough. Thanks in advance.
  3. Despues de Lucia (After Lucia) This Mexican drama is about a man and his daughter trying to pick up the pieces of the death of their wife/mother. After moving from their home town to Mexico City, the daughter falls victim to a vicious prank by her new schoolmates. This results in her being bullied severely. She refuses to tell her dad partly out of embarrassment and partly because he is barely able to keep it together after the loss of his wife. The movie is REALLY slow to start out. I very nearly paused it to do something else but about halfway through Act II the action picks up along with the tension. It's one of those movies where you know something bad is gonna happen but you just don't know when. Minimal camera moves and long, static shots force the viewer to study the characters and the scene itself. If you aren't paying attention you might miss a look or an ominous nod. I really enjoyed this film but I don't think it's everybody's cup of tea. Available on Netflix instant download.
  4. Any youth pitcher worth his salt should be able to get guys out with nothing other than a fastball and a change-up. Teaching a kid to use a splitter is down right criminal. And I don't think we can categorize any theory as being 100% false since we don't know for sure what is causing all the TJ issues this year. All we have are theories. For all we know, youth baseball has nothing to do with TJ. It might be something else like a lower mound or dumb luck. It's quite possible that this year is an aberration. I guess we won't know until we have the benefit of hindsight. I'd be curious to know if "catastrophic" pitching injuries are more common now than they were in the 50's and 60's. You always hear about an old timer that pitched in the minors until "his arm blew out". There was no TJ surgery for guys in that situation and since it happened in the minors you never heard of the guy at all.
  5. I remember Bevington for getting in a fist fight with Phil Garner during a game. That was a fun rivalry for a few years.
  6. Coulter goes yard for the 9th time. His previous career high was 8 home runs in a season.
  7. It's funny. Over at RealGM there is a very vocal contingent that absolutely hates Parker.
  8. I'd have been happy with anything in the top 4.....so I would have been happy no matter what.
  9. I'd just as soon have Morris brought up and DFA Overbay than trade prospects for a power bat off the bench.
  10. I don't miss Lawrie's defense.
  11. Man Javier Baez is really struggling. For a "can't miss" prospect he sure is missing the ball an awful lot.
  12. Everyone's gonna get healthy, Davis will start hitting, pitching will be good.....hakuna matata.
  13. Hunter Morris with another dinger. Be nice to see him keep his OPS above .800
  14. Former Brewer draftee Dylan Covey makes the "In the Team Photo" section: http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/prospect-hot-sheet-may-9-big-bad-bryant/
  15. Agreed. I want to vote Coulter #1
  16. My man crush on Coulter is approaching Hernan Irribarren levels.
  17. I guess I wasn't talking about Hoffman so much as as I was talking about TJ surgery. I mean, does it bother anybody anymore when a pitcher has a TJ under his belt? Or is there something to having that surgery at a young age that would raise a red flag?
  18. Jeff Hoffman, one of the top pitchers in the college ranks and at one time a projected top 10 pick in the draft, will undergo TJ surgery. Should this impact his draft status? Is it almost better to draft a guy AFTER he's had TJ? At least then you know the odds are likely he won't need it again.
  19. Throwing a football and throwing a baseball are very different acts. Way more torque put on the shoulder when throwing a baseball (I should say when pitching a baseball)
  20. Coulter is on fire. I would love to see a breakout year with the bat from him. Seems like he's been around for 5 years already but he's only 20 years old.
  21. Welcome back, Kat! Hope you are able to post in this thread going forward.
  22. Imagine the thought process for Fiers when he sees what happened in St. Louis today. I wish I had a longer track record of success?
  23. Short Term 12 Excellent indy flick from 2013. It's about a group home for foster kids. After a wayward girl arrives on the scene, one of her caretakers begins to associate her own past with the girl's situation. As the film progresses, we learn more and more about the caretaker's history and why she ended up working with troubled kids. Really terrific performances by a largely no-name cast, this one will make you laugh and cry and everything in between. Wonderful script and wonderful film.
  24. Harrison twins returning to UK. Already talk of going undefeated.
  25. St. Louis choking....man has that been an entertaining series. 4 of the 5 games go to overtime. Crazy.
