  1. Too bad such a great player/man had to play for an inept organization. He should have tasted the playoffs at least once. RIP. Won the MVP two years in a row on teams that won 72 and 74 games respectively (while guys like Aaron and Mantle were still in their prime)
  2. If Schwarber and Russell pan out the Cubs might actually win a playoff series.
  3. I don't normally love Wes Anderson films but I really enjoyed Grand Budapest. His set design (which has me convinced he is OCD) is ridiculously detailed and especially gorgeous in this movie.
  4. Let's try and keep the posts about this trade in particular and not Doug Melvin's trading history.
  5. Mystery Road Australian flick about an Aboriginal cop investing the murder of an Aboriginal girl. Racism/classism impedes the cop at every turn. Very solid movie with a thrilling climax. Also stars Hugo Weaving (Mr. Smith from The Matrix movies). Nightcrawler I was able to see an advance copy of this since it's not out on DVD yet. Great film. Gyllenhall is turning into a very fine actor. His ability to morph into character isn't quite on the level of someone like Christian Bale, but he's certainly doing his best to expand his repertoire. Gyllenhaal plays a "nightcrawler" - a guy who chases and films car crashes, police actions, etc. and then sells the footage to local TV. He is an uber capitalist and spares no opportunity to negotiate with anybody. Similarly, he wastes no opportunity to make a name for himself through whatever means necessary. Great commentary on society and 24 hour news cycle. Thumbs up.
  6. Heyward has had one good half of a season in his career. Of course the change of scenery and the fact that he's now a Cardinal means he'll probably win the triple crown next year but I like this deal for ATL on paper.
  7. That one is up there with the upper deck shot he had at St. Louis his rookie year. Joe Buck just said "This thing.....wow."
  8. Away from what? A World Series Championship? Perhaps... But this team almost certainly was a competent 1B away from the playoffs and a division title this year, and that's 1 player. I don't think Lind by himself is going to add more than 2 wins. But Lind + healthy Braun means Wild Card....and there were two Wild Card teams in the World Series this year.
  9. Maddon had the benefit of some pretty stellar pitching staffs in Tampa. Cubs need to do a little more in that area before he can work his "magic" at Wrigley.
  10. Seems weird to assign a "dynasty" label to a team that won a world series with a wild card berth. Just for discussion...if a team wins 85 games three years in a row, never wins their division, yet wins the World Series each year are they a dynasty? I suppose they are...just seems odd to me.
  11. I was on a shoot the other day and was allowed to handled a 10 foot Burmese python. That thing was cool.
  12. Starting a new thread for a new year. Here's a link to the last couple of pages of the the old thread in case you want to continue talking Stone or Ellenson. http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?f=67&t=30671&start=580
  13. I hope he does, but its hard to think he will pass up playing for cal or izzo to play for wojo in the big east. According to the 247 2015 class rankings, MU is 14th, getting Ellenson would give MU a top 5 class I am sure http://247sports.com/Season/2015-Basketball/CompositeTeamRankings Very early in the recruiting cycle. Wisconsin has 1 four star signed and they're 41st. They sign one three star and they're up in the low 20's.
  14. Stone's top five (in no order) Duke Wisconsin Maryland Oklahoma St UConn
  15. Clint Terry has had a really good second half for the T-Rats.
  16. Medeiros is having a stellar outing so far. 3IP, 1H, 4K's, 0BB
  17. The thing is, if you follow the path you propose you continually wait for guys to develop and you end up with an average teams while the physical catches up with the mental. Then when the guys are just about to blossom you trade them for another younger guy that's not as good. You end up running in place. The point of the thread was to basically ask if people would be more excited about the future if we had all the prospects we never traded away. It's an impossible exercise to some extent because there are so many moves that would or would not have happened had you stood pat. Just thought it'd be fun to think about.
  18. Do you really believe that? Believe that if say Hoyer want to sign or trade for X player, but Theo disagreed, that Hoyer would have the final say? I don't. I really have no idea. I do think it bears mentioning that just because Theo is associated with the team doesn't mean he'll do all the same types of things he did in Boston.
  19. Man, that's so sad.
  20. Jed Hoyer is the GM in Chicago. Theo is President. So Hoyer probably has more say in player moves than Theo.
  21. Crap. Totally forgot about him. Thanks.
  22. http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=193 http://wisconsin.247sports.com/Board/Badgers-Message-Board-23 These are the two big ones. I can't vouch for 247sports but the scout board is OK. I guess it's gotten more trollish recently because there aren't as many moderators but I haven't really noticed a big change.
