  1. Fiers with another terrific start. I'm officially excited about this guy.
  2. Ooooh! L Series. Drooooool
  3. Without looking it up, they won 13 in a row, then went 7 - 3, then lost 12 in a row. I vividly remember the Dale Hofmann article that mentioned the two streaks and the record in between. Weird what junk gets lodged up in the old noggin'.
  4. Anyone know why Green isn't in the lineup? EDIT: never mind. hurt his thumb. thanks.
  5. Someone made mention of this lady on JSOnline the other day. I need to do some reconnaissance.
  6. Maybe the memory of Brad Nelson still haunts him.
  7. Green and Gamel have pretty decent home and road splits. I think they are legit. Gindl's splits really favor the road so my enthusiasm for him isn't quite as high.
  8. The sac bunting in the 1st and 2nd innings is driving me nuts.
  9. I won't be comfortable until we clinch. I have visions of a 9 game lead evaporating the last two weeks of the season. Look how much the NL Central has changed in just the last three weeks. I thnk the Brewers were .5 game behind the Pirates on July 24 and the Reds were three games out of first.
  10. Anyone see the Brewer fans with the hard hats and sign that said "Here to check the lights."? I thought that was hilarious.
  11. Fiers is starting to venture into serious prospect land....and he's doing it on the road in the PCL. Not an easy league to pitch in and get good numbers.
  12. Wow, Nice outing for Helena's Strong. 13K's 0BB in 7 innings.
  13. If it was just when there were two outs I'd have no problem. It's attempting steals of third with Braun at bat and attempting double steals with one of the slowest players in the league at third base. And it's a whole lot of other "small ball" type plays that don't fit this thread.
  14. But you can't measure lack of range (well you can using UZR) in a win or loss. It's hard to go game by game and say "Well if there had been an average SS playing, the opponent would not have had those two singles which led to two more runs."
  15. There were pieces available. Melvin just didn't have enough of his own pieces (or was unwilling to part with them) to get those players.
  16. Steal attempts for the Brewers per game pre all star break = .847 (78 attempts, 92 games) Steal attempts for the Brewers per game post all star break = .391 (9 attempts, 23 games) Does anyone think this is a conscious effort or due more to injuries to Weeks and Braun?
  17. Except where would Lawrie play? Someone else would have to get the boot.
  18. Yeah Gindl's home and road splits are pretty severe (home .742 OPS road .967) whereas Gamel and Green are still really good at home. So I guess that tempers my enthusiasm a wee bit. Still really young though for how well he's doing.
  19. That's a great point. I'd be fine with Gindl as a fourth outfielder next year, but I also think it might be better for him to play everyday. At any rate, hope he's not a PTBNL.
  20. After last night's game, Green and Gamel have the following lines: Green .327/.412/.566 Gamel .327/.391/.586 Their OPS' ranked 8th and 9th respectively in the PCL - impressive considering they are two of three players in the top ten in OPS who do not play out west (the third is an Iowa Cub) They are both having monster years. I'd be fine with each of them manning a corner for the Crew next year.
  21. He does hold his hands near his head. Anyone have a pic or video of the HBP? I was listening on the radio too.
  22. Anyone else see this from a St Louis columnist? http://www.stltoday.com/s...0-a12e-001a4bcf6878.html "* It was sickening to see David Freese in the dirt, temporarily removed from his senses, after being popped in the head by an errant pitch thrown by Florida's Clay Hensley on Thursday night. Freese suffered a mild concussion and a bruise. He was lucky. It could have been worse, much worse, tragically worse. I wonder if the fools in Milwaukee now understand why Cardinals manager Tony La Russa makes such a big deal over high pitches thrown above the shoulders, and into that dangerous area where awful things can happen to a vulnerable hitter."
  23. You're a girl?
  24. So I went over to that Cards board to see the thread about cheating and apparently they have statistically proven the Brewers cheat at home. Not only that but they are flummoxed as to why a stat site like Fangraphs hasn't picked up on the story and analyzed it.
