  1. The same thing happened in Chicago last summer. Stuff like this happens in big cities.
  2. 3 days rest after only pitching 3 innings his last start. I assume they probably have a number of prescribed innings they'd like a prospect to get to each year and are trying to get them back on that #.
  3. Yeah this whole thread seems really premature until the schedules start evening out - I'll check back in late July.
  4. I don't think you have to rob another team in order to have a successful trade. The one mentioned here is probably the most evenly matched trade in recent memory - both teams came out ahead.
  5. Huge difference. A scrub is someone with NO ceiling. Matt Bush was picked #1 out of high school. Where is he? Anyway, the road is littered with top 10 picks that did nothing. Then you are only reading the posts you want to read because there are several people in this thread that didn't like that trade.
  6. For what it's worth, I enjoy following these guys. I like the thread.
  7. I think one Lisa Dergan = 100 Ruth conquests http://www.bogeylounge.tv/images/lisa_dergan.jpg
  8. FTJ, I agree that waiting on draft picks to show their mettle is a pretty thin argument. If you are making trades on the assumption that you'll recoup your losses via the draft you will be sad more than you will be happy. Let's face it, Jack Z has bombed on several high rounders. Yes, on the whole he's been successful with those high picks but to say it's a guarantee that Fredrickson and Nails Jr. pan out is a HUGE stretch. Not only that but odds are neither gives you what Inman and Garrison are already giving you in AA. My problem with that trade is that I felt Inman and Garrison could have netted more than a three month rental of a middling middle reliever which is ultimately what this trade needs to be judged on. So yes, we can use future performance to measure this trade but to me it has to be through Inman and Garrison's value rather than the draft picks.
  9. Actually, I think it's just one person... And I believe your original examples were all slow centers....which JA is not. Again, JA is not a big guy. He's a small forward. Like Van Horn or Szczerbiak. Do those guys suck? Frist off, Wennington is Canadian. And JA is not the same type of player as the ones you keep mentioning. You keep listing centers. Let's try to compare apples to apples. By your logic we could say no one should ever draft an African center because Olowakandi, Yinke Dare, and Manute Bol all stunk. Then someone would mention Olajuwon and then it would be "Well name someone in the last ten years!"
  10. I could see the Brewers part with Salome, Brantley, Braddock, and maybe someone else. I don't know if LaPorta or Gamel would need to be part of the equation.
  11. "They were doing that for Dempster being taken out. " Well they shouldn't tempt fate!
  12. 8-0 in the 3rd. Of course, the Sox fans start to jinx it by singing the Hey Hey Goodbye song.
  13. Minor league numbers aren't meaningless but I don't think they should be used to show whether a trade was good or bad for the teams involved. Exactly. You need to wait and see how a guy pans out before judging the trade one way or the other. Linebrink trade can only be judged once all parties involved get a few seasons under their belt in the bigs.
  14. I think the point is that they don't mean anything until a guy proves it in the majors. Plenty of dudes raked in AA only to bust up or be average in the majors.
  15. Honus, As soon as my condo sells, I'm doing exactly that....was planning on starting this summer but couldn't afford classes, mortgage. Not to mention I travel for work a little and they wouldn't let me off the road to get a degree that has nothing to do with my job.
  16. Steve Nash is a two time MVP - granted he's Canadian but that's like Diet American. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  17. This thread is starting to make me more dumber.
  18. Well how many white american power forwards have been drafted in the 1st round in the last decade? Szczerbiak, Van Horn.....anyone else? You may not want 'average' but odds are that's what a #8 will turn out to be.
  19. "Id look more at his game than his skin color. " Well said.
  20. Chad Ford said the Bucks "had needs elsewhere". Well drafting for 'need' is what screws most teams on an annual basis. Not to mention, the draft is not the only way to shape a roster.
  21. Not to mention, #8's in general rarely becomes stars. If Alexander has a solid career this pick is a success Think Wally Szczerbiak level of production and you won't be let down.
  22. "Big, white Americans never pan out." Larry Bird And Alexander was born in Taiwan.
  23. If he's still on the board I think the Bucks should look at DJ White in round 2.
  24. Jefferson is only 28 (just turned last week) so while he's not a rookie, he's still got many productive years ahead of him. Solid trade.
  25. I haven't read the entire thread so this may have been predicted already but here's how I see things shaking out: The Brewers offer Ben a deal that looks good but is really below his market value - i dunno, say 4 years $50 million. Ben signs with Texas for 4 years $65 million Melvin says "We made him what we thought was a fair offer. He chose to go elsewhere." Ben is booed if he ever pitches at Miller Park again.
