In this worst case scenario, where would the supplemental pick fall? And I don't think that Rickie has any eligibility left at Southern.

Stupid fricking Manning!!! Don't screw with a Pauly streak. He had jolting Joe in the cross hairs. But that's not Pauly's bag, he goes and high fives Manning for the game winning hit. Silly Hall of Famers who care more about the team than individual accolades. On a side note, damn that Ned Yost for doing such a good job. I was hoping he would be as bad as his presessors and that it would be Pauly's job in two years. -

The Snappers brought out the lumber for the W tonight. They also appeared to forget to bring the leather and cost Manny a chance at going the distance despite the lopsided score. Manny didn't appear to have his "best" stuff tonight, which sounds crazy considering that he pitched 6 score less innings. His line is 6IP 5K 0BB 5H 0ER. He really seemed to be working on his off speed pitches this evening, especially the first time through the order. Several other times I've seen him he's been striking everyone out, not the case tonight. Don't get the wrong idea, he still looked great. Just not as lights out as he can be. It didn't help that he had three errors to work with behind him. All three errors were courtesy of Chas Terni, he did have one more to bring his total to 4 for the game-- not the best night for the shortstop. One was a throwing error, Prince didn't come close to digging out the low throw-- thought he could've given a little better effort on it. Prince's sub par defense reared it's ugly head again when he couldn't grab Jon Huizinga's hot throw late in the game. Prince's effort on defense seem to have gone into a mid season swoon. But Prince's stick certainly hasn't felt any ill effects of late. He went 2-4 with 4 RBI( a double, a HR and a sac fly). His homerun in the 3rd was a no doubter off the bat. He was brushed back, then deposited then next pitch to the left of the 380 sign in center. Tony Gwyn had a solid overall game. He went 1 for 2 (RBI double) with 3 walks. He looks a lot like his dad at the plate. He just goes with the ball and serves it where ever it was pitched. And as evidenced by his walks, if you don't throw strikes you won't get him to bite. His defense looks to be ready for prime time. He reads the ball off the bat very well, and his speed allows him to cover all kinds of ground. Callix Crabbe had a nice night at the plate going 3 for 4 with 2 RBI and scoring 3 runs. Mario Mendez also had a nice night with the bat. He ran a triple all the way to the wall while going 2 for 5 with 3 RBI on the night. Pedro Esparragoza had a little to much giddy up on his throws to second. He did nap one of two would be thieves, thanks to a great tag by Callix Crabbe. Both throws were very high, his second ended up in center field. -

The Snappers almost gave this game away tonight. But in the end they held on to win a hard fought, well played ball game in front of a sparse crowd. Manny Parra pitched another gem. In 6 2/3rds innings, he allowed 2 earned runs on 5 hits while striking out 10 and walking none. He was in control for the entire start. He set the side down in order in his first two innings. There wasn't a gun Manny, so I wasn't able to sneak a peek at how hard he was throwing. But his velocity seemed to be where it has been in his previous starts. Manny was using his off speed pitches a lot tonight, he really kept the Yankees off balance. He seemed tired when he went out in the seventh. Money tried to let him finish, but it was obvious he was gassed and Manny gave way to Bo Hall. As others have stated, Manny won't be in Beloit much longer. My impressions of Tony Gwyn Jr. were quite positive. He had an RBI single in the first and stole second. He looks very comfortable in the outfield, he just missed robbing a double off the bat of Joaquin Arias. He looks to fit the bill of goods we've been sold. No sighting's of his pops. Adam Heether made a nice play on a bunt by Juan Camacho. He made a bare handed snag and got the out on a bang-bang call(cannon arm) . He looked very good at the hot corner. At the plate he was also clutch. He walked to lead off the second, stole second and scored. Had a base knock in the fourth and dropped down a perfect sac bunt in the 9th to get the winning run into scoring position. He did look uncomfortable both times he was on second, his lead looked very unorthodox. He had trouble reading the pitches delivery and took a couple of steps back to the bag when the pitcher was coming home. I was able to talk to a source with in the Snappers front office ( I would love give full credit to this SUPER helpful person, but I don't want to be selling anyone out by naming them-- getting them in trouble for what ever reason.) Here's the lowdown on several of our walking wounded. -Steve Moss has been doing some throwing and possibly some light hitting. He saw the Dr. again on Tuesday. After the game I saw him, and his arm was in a sling. So it may be a few more weeks until Steve is game ready. -Tom Wilhelmsen seemed to be in good spirts this evening. His injury is described as an elbow strain. He is scheduled to head to Arizona tomorrow to be checked by team doctors and maybe a little rehab. The person I talked to said that it didn't sound like Tom's injury was too serious. It appears that the team is just airing on the side of caution with their young righty. I feel a lot better after hearing this!!! -John Vanden Berg was in gear and catching in the bull pen this evening. He was available if he was needed. His face is still swelled, but he can get his mask on. He could be in the line up as soon as tomorrow. -Calvin Carpenter may or may not be in the rotation. Obviously his stamina isn't were it needs to be after all the time off. The intent is for Calvin to be in the rotation, but it may take a little time. Besides the exciting finish in the bottom of the 9th, my highlight of the eve came from two unusual suspects. While my wife and I were walking to the car after the game, we heard some very loud yelling. The two gentlemen were carrying on, screaming" Ya, go Snappers. Snappers rule." A lot of that kind of noise. Upon further inspection I could see that the two were none other than Tom Wilhelmsen and Steve Moss. The were freaking hilarious. Thanks to Brewerfan.net I could see that it wasn't just two guys screwing around, but two top prospects. Awesome!!!http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eek.gif -

I talked to a very realiable sourse Saturday night at the Snapper's game. He felt that it would be very unlikley that Brad could play any other position than 1st in the bigs,or even in the minors. This is from somebody who's seen them both play. So based on that, I see no reason why Prince and Brad will ever or should ever be on the same team. -

I was able to attend the game on Saturday night. What a great time I had!!! Even my lovely wife, who didn't want to go, had a great time. After it was all over, I asked her which she would rather attend. A Brewer game, or a Snapper game? Her response was the Snappers. Why? They win and they give you free ice cream ( Culvers gave away coupons as we were leaving) I was lucky enough to talk to one PR guys, got a lot of info. So the following is some of my observations and information. -On the first pitch I've ever seen at a Beloit game, Steve Moss was injured and had to leave. Steve made a awesome, full out, diving catch-- saving an extra base hit. In the process he dislocated his shoulder (looked to be his right shoulder). The PR guy said that he dislocated and pop it back in on the play. He is scheduled to have it examined at the hospital on Sunday morning. The PR guy didn't have a feeling on how serious it was. Mario Mendez took over. Wasn't overly impressed with his offense, but he had a hose in right field. In the 9th he just missed a put out on a double by Travis Hanson. -On the Moss thread, Brain ( the killer PR guy) said that Gwyn would be with the team on Monday-- and as reported on Brewerfan.net would be on the field by Friday. He said the plan was to have Gwyn play Center, Moss in Left and Carter in right. He expected Tony Gwyn Sr. to be at the park a little this summer as well, thought he would hide out in the Press box. He said that Cecil was at games all last August, he sat in the row just behind the screen. -Manny was on tonight. By my scoring ( leave room for flaws) he had 10 strike outs, 3 looking!!! The rest of his line had 5 hits, 1 BB, and two earned runs in 7 stellar innings. One of his runs should've been unearned. Nic Carter lost a can of corn fly ball in the lights, or something in the 7th. A guy ended up scoring on it, really could've been a error on Carter. Manny looks great. Nice mechanics, smooth delivery. Was working both sides of the plate. Late in the 6th he was hitting 91 mph on the gun. Late in the 7th it was at 90mph. Brain said that Manny has lost around 15 lbs. this season and his velocity is down a little bit. -As reported, Pedro Esparragoza is very solid behind the plate. While his stick left a little room for improvement. He blocked balls well. Threw out 1 of 2 would be base stealers. Caught a few pop ups. Was close enough to hear an explicative when a foul pop was just out of his reach. Looked to be a little flashy when switching the ball from glove to hand, and just overall presence behind the plate. -Brain was there last season, said he was well aware of Brewerfan.net http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif . I asked him if he thought that Brad Nelson could play in the outfield. The answer was that he didn't think Nelly was athletic enough to play in the outfield. -Tom Wilhelmsen's nickname is "Willie". Said the same thing as Colby and others, that Tom is a great person. He was excited about Tom hitting 97 at the all-star game. -I agree with Madbad, the 50/50 is rigged.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif -Jason Baker relieved Manny in the 8th. His delivery is a little scary, to me. Keep in mind that I don't know crap. He kind of drops down a bit, not quite 3/4. A little funky delivery, not too smooth. His ball didn't seem to have much movement, pretty much straight as an arrow. His heater hit 89. He did get roughed up a bit in the 9th. Bo Hall came on and nailed it down. Couldn't tell much about Bo from his 2/3 of an inning. -The other obvious big news for the night was Prince freaking going off. I don't know what people are talking about his body- he looked to be in good shape weight wise. He hit an oppo field grand slam in the first. And then hit a 2 run job in the third. He was walked in his other two at bats. Jeff Eure allowed the Chiefs to take the bat out of Prince's hand in the 7th by stealing the first of his two bases with the big man at the bat. He just missed a third dinger with a long fly that hooked foul in left during the 5th. I'm not sure that both of his homer's would've been gone in Miller Park, they weren't boomers-- sorry to nit pick such an awesome game. -The only other news concerns Snappy, the mascot. During the 3rd inning contest, a race between an eight year old and Snappy, Snappy took the kid out as the reached the platehttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/devil.gif . It was meant in fun, but then the kid got up holding his leg-- damn mean turtles. Oh and Snappy is a south paw, saw it while signing autographs for the young fans. -
I think the point that is trying to be made is that none of us have seen Weeks in person. Those in the "know" have said that Weeks isn't the most polished guy coming out of college. His defense is in question. Why not let him work on it in the lower minors rather than where the pressure is more intense at AA. I would rather not rush this guy, I think that's what others are trying to say as well. If Rickie lights up the A ball pitches like Rockefeller plaza, than just promote him. I don't think it's naive to listen to others opinions, I think that's why they're paid professionals and I'm some guy typing on a message board.

In Monday's State Journal there was a story on Brewers 47th round pick Ryan Zink. I sounds like he's going to end up in college at Illinios-Chicago. In the article it says that he knew that he was projected to get drafted between rounds 6-10, but he wanted 4th round money and that's why he fell to the 47th. He is quoted in the article as saying that he's pretty sure that he's going to end up at college. He says that he's hoping to make a final decision by next week. He also says that he has yet to talk with the Brewers. It kind stinks that he wanted the big $. I always love to have local guys make it big with our hometown clubs, oh well. Vince Mancuso, where will he get drafted??

I hope that the Crew can take a note from the Jays and start winning. Merill is starting to turn some heads in the Valley. -

See, we caught the Pollocks on a down swing. We kicked the crap out of 'em every year I was there. Same with Marshfield, J.R. Neville set the confrence record for TD's in a game against them in the first half. The hatred for Everest comes from them dominating the Valley during our time at LHS. They knocked us out of the quarterfinals in the fall of '94-- big time heartbreak of my life-- told you I'm a big time loser. -

Hey yoyo, what do you hear about the Pops nickname. We called coach Pops ever since we were in 8th grade, but we never knew why-- it was just something cool to call the old man behind his back. We had heard that it concerned Rocky's kid and some guy in gym class calling Coach Biegel Pops from that? Had you heard that. And tlpc4 please don't break my heart and tell me from Everest, I hold a grudge worse than some old woman and will HATE those guys until the day I die.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/devil.gif -
I've got to vote for Kyle. I liked the guy and everything, he always had that "I'm from Stanford, so I must be a smart pitcher look about him". But everyone knew that his delivery would lead to arm troubles, and bam his arm goes. Oh Sal you piece of crap. If only you could've played for the Cubs or the Yankees instead of the Crew.

LHS baby!! I've got a serious case of Red Raideritis-- defiantly bordering on the dorky side. I think it's very weird we're talking about Gus's # 2 son. But Vince was the family stallion. Johnny and Jimmy both we're good athletes', but Vince had that chiseld build when I knew him as a sophomore. He started in all three sports as a sophomore. He hurt his knee his junior spring (I think), otherwise there was "talk" that Michigan was looking at him for a baseball ride. Best of luck to Vinny Mac in the draft. -

Holy $H!T-- That is where Vinny Mac went to college. His brother John went to UW-LaCrosse. Vinny was always the little stud horse in H.S.. He graduated in '97 or '98. This blows my freaking mind. I graduated in '96 with Johnny Mac. I have often stated that Wisconsin Rapids is the center of the universe-- this proves it. Dougy, if you draft Vinny in like the 50th round I will have your children. -

http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif Always be on the look out for those Proir like guys, we should draft them. I think they are good. -
Cress, I'm not very good with the Baseball draft. But I would have to say that after our first pick, maybe after our second pick the rest would just be grasping at straws. I think they're just to many variables to even be close to guessing who the Crew will select in the following rounds. But if I'm wrong, and it's something that others would be good at, then you should have at it.
-
I guess one thought I have on this is that if we're going to be bad-- and obviously we are-- then we should be the worst team in the league. Who cares if you finish in the middle of the pack. Big deal there are lots of neighbors in that neighborhood. Let's have an address all to ourselves to say only our Brewers could be this bad. "What are you saying, you want us to lose?" "No, we've been losing. What I want is for us to finish dead last."
-
I hope not, I want that 1st pick. Not that I'll ever root for the crew to lose.

I'm not sure if anyone else would find Loewen countdown meter amusing or appropriate. I believe that the O's have until midnight on may 26 to have Loewen signed. So with less then a week to go I wonder if a countdown to Loewnen is in order. I know the problem could be that if he isn't signed, and then the crew doesn't draft that we may have to nut the nuggett miner. Or the D-rays could piss in our post toasties and draft him, in either case I think it might be fun to countdown to our Canuck.
-
Today in the Wisconsin State Journal there was a story about Madison La Follette's senior right hander Ryan Zink. Said that he participated in a work out in Cedar Rapids put on by team one baseball. Wonder what his chances are in the draft. Here's my attempt at linking the story, no promises. Zink story
