You don't like this as a Brewer fan. Mad dog was an awesome pitching coach when he was with the Crew. I can still hear Rock quoting Mike, " you throw strikes early, so you don't have to throw them late." The Cards didn't need this!! They already have the ability to make anyone look like Cy Young. Hopefully Derek Johnson can continue his impressive coaching so far and render the Cards obsolete! !!!
Since I'm not allowed to wear my Pauly jersey at this time, I'll bust out my Jeromy Burntitz. It's an oldie but a goodie. Funny story about this jersey (not funny at the time). Got this Burny while in college. The house my friends and I lived in came with a cat. This female cat became pregnant. Being a slob I left my prized jersey laying on a lazy chair in the living room. At this time the cat decides to let loose with the wonder of birth, on my chair, on my jersey. Not such a good day! Luckily the jersey was laundered back to it's original condition.
Not even in the neighborhood. I had them at 75 wins, best case scenario. I told everyone that I'd talk to that they were going to be one if the ten worst teams in baseball and probably closer to fifth. Great surprise. Great season. (How low our expectations are as Brewer fans. But the horizon is almost here.)
I was listening to Silverstein and Cohen on the JS podcast. Cohen REALLY let in to Bennett on his effort. Seemed to infer that Marty is being a jag bag. Loafing between snaps. Lethargic. Fairly strong take. From what I've read and heard from the media, Bennett is the best blocking TE on the roster. Heck he's the best blocking TE in Green Bay in the last several seasons (Not that we've had much competition). Cook vs. Bennett? Bennett's been kept in blocking or at least chipping the entire season, helping the patchwork O-line. Cook doesn't have those blocking chops. I believe once the O-line gets healthy that Bennett will start to produce in the passing game. The drops? No answer. No real history of drops. I'll just hope for improvement.
I know McCarthy & Rodgers had a good game plan, as well as execution. But I was impressed by the work of the offensive line. Lane Taylor at LT? Seriously? McCray at RT? For Real? Lucas Patrick? Ah, no. But that rag tag group got it done. Only 2 sacks and no QB hits. Someone deserves credit.
Hopefully we are as annoying to the Cubs and Rockies as they are to us! I hope everytime they glance at the scoreboard they think, freaking Brewers. Don't you ever loose. The Crew is sure keeping the pressure on! Go Wilkerson!!
I'm just happy that Rodgers came out of this game alive. Down Bahktari, Bulaga, Spriggs, and Barclay (You're 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and maybe 4th tackles). Kyle Murphy and McCray are the starting tackles. A 6th round pick from 2016 who didn't play from scrimmage in 2016. Murphy has no business ever playing left tackle. McCray isn't a tackle at all, I didn't think he had any business playing in an NFL game. If I know this from my couch, what do you think is going through Rodgers mind? He knows that this game is being played on a fast track. Against a fast front 7. In a crazy loud environment on opening night of a new stadium. I think he also knows that any one game isn't worth losing him for the season. I know he's a professional. I know he gets payed to play no matter who else is on the field. I'm just not surprised he played poorly last night. I'm happy to eat crow on McCray's performance. He played well enough. He had a false start. I'm sure he had help. But he protected the franchise. I also thought Murphy did a good job. Rodgers got sacked 3 times and knocked down 5. That's getting it done. The defense? I'm not surprised. I've never thought they were going to be great. If the game were a shoot out, maybe they could do enough to hold serve. With the offense imploding, they couldn't win the game as they did in week 1. I bet they look good again in weeks 3 & 4. My take away: It was only 1 game. It could hurt more come playoff time, but it was only 1 game. They'll be 3-1 after the Natti and Chicago fall to them. Then let's see what happens in the Dallas game.
I wanted Watt to be a Packer in the worst way. I believe the Pack thought the would get TJ with the first pick in the 2nd round. I think he could be special. He could be the one who got away.
Good win. Murphy held his own, which is encouraging. I was really surprised that Bulaga couldn't answer the bell. Aaron's foot, ankle or whatever was sore is concerning. The defense looked stout against the run. I'm surprised the Seahags didn't spread the Packers D out a bit more and try to throw it. It seemed like they had success through the air at times. I'd have pressed that more, but i'm no Bevel. (I just found out about McGinn's website and I'm in LOVE!! Huge fan. I think the JS coverage has really been lacking since his departure.)
I agree on Lang, and so do the Packers. The guy played hurt and gave you everything he had. If the Packers had given TJ their final offer to him in 2016, he'd still be a Packer.
I liked the idea of Lambeau leap, but I rarely visited. Laziness I suppose. If it's not a ton of work for someone, I would love a Packer sub forum. Just a vote that direction.
I am still desperately hoping that the Pack sign a veteran back up lineman. Injuries to the O-line could be a huge obstacle to winning it all. If you can't protect Rodgers, you not winning a thing. There is NO center/ guard depth. McCray is in over his head in my opinion. I'd have been surprised if he'd made the practice squad, I'm completely floored that he's on the 53 man. I like Patrick, but he's never played with live bullets. And even when he comes off the IR, Donny Barclay hasn't impressed me since his rookie year. A veteran makes all the sense in the world to me.
This is just since an awesome spot to be in as a Brewer fan. I had little to no expectations for this season. The most I was hoping for was a few good performances, trading some good performers to help the rebuild, and to watch the kids on the farm continue their climb. Really just to bridge the gap until the Packers started in late July. But WOW, just WOW!! I'm not gonna lie, the post season beckons. I wouldn't mind a bigger move for young controlled pitching. Even a small move for older bullpen arms that cost a Cordell or maybe a Cody Ponce (star has dimmed a bit since his debut summer for myself). But while no move isn't as sexy, I can live with the Ty Webb as the lone move. (Brilliant move by the way, a probable rule 5 loss into a controllable loogy?! Nice!) Thanks for a very nice summer Stearns and Craig.
No-trade: Woodruff, Burnes, Monte Harrison Must be for young pitching with multiple years of control: Brinson, Ortiz, Peralta, Hader, Isan Diaz, Trent C Like to trade: Ray, , Medeiros, Lara, Maverick Philips,
I know its not logical, but I'd like to scratch that itch. I'm a huge sucker for Wilhemson. In my early Brewerfan.com days, after Matt Yeatman was dealt for Matt Kiney, I was all in on the Wilhemson train. Through the beauty of Brewerfan I've kept tabs on his comeback and my flame still burns.
That is horrible!!! Now who am I going to quote! Christl and McGinn have been without a doubt the best Packer writers I've had the pleasure of reading.
I'm curious about the Jahri Evans signing as it relates to the 2018 free agent/ draft pick equation. Tom Silverstein reported the Evans signing wouldn't have much of an effect due to the length of the contract ( 1 year). But I thought that players over a certain age don't count at all. Evans is 34, it feels like that's pretty old. Does anyone else remember the exact age you no longer count against the compensation equation? I think it was reported that losing Julius Peppers wouldn't help due to his age.
I could get behind Peppers. Special FOOTBALL player. Just think he can make plays from multiple positions on the field. I don't think he'll be available when the Pack make their selection. I would be disappointed in Lampkin, a guard in the first round doesn't help the defense or make them more dynamic on offense. While guard is an important, someone in the group of Barclay, Patrick Lewis, and Kyle Murphy will be adequate. Not saying I love them but they will do.
What are your feelings on drafting Joe Mixon? I'm not advocating yes or no. I wouldn't grab him in the first round. And 2nd & 3rd rounds I'd have to be convinced that he's going to be great. I haven't seen the video. What I've heard is that he punched a coed in a bar and was suspended for a season. Green Bay could stand the PR back lash if they thought the juice was worth the squeeze. And I would definitely trade the Packers first round pick for Malcom Butler. They have a championship caliber offense, the defense is holding them back.
I wouldn't trade a 1st round pick for Sherman. I think he's on the decline due to age. As more of a physical corner as opposed to a pure speed merchant, it may not hurt him as fast. He is crafty and smart, so perhaps he can last longer too. I just wouldn't invest in an old corner. I also can't stand the guy, but that's neither here nor there. Now our first round pick for Malcom Butler, I can get behind that. I really have a man crush on TJ Watt. I loved him in Madison. I'm buying the theory that he has some projection left. His combine numbers were as good or better than Clay Matthews. That put me over the top. I just feel that he's going to be like Chris Borland. Just has an it factor and dominated at the NFL level.
