  1. Pretty sure there was a Church thread a few days ago.
  2. He's like the 21st century Kevin Seitzer (whom I believe he took over for at 3B in the mid-90s). The Brewers picked up a supposed washed up Seitzer in 1992, only to see him lead the team in hitting. Seitzer signed as a FA with Oakland, where he completely fell flat on his face and was cut. After resigning with the Brewers, he put up several seasons of All-Star calibur numbers before being shipped off yet again for Jeromy Burnitz, opeing up 3B for Cirillo. Burnitz went on to shine for the Brewers, while Seitzer floundered for the Indians in their playoff push that year. He retired after the season. If there is anybody that would believe Milwaukee is heaven for a hitter, it would be Seitzer. Cirillo is copying him.
  3. Umm, Jeff has produced well for two seasons in a row for the Brewers. Now, unless you can predict the future, I suggest you back up your opinion with something.
  4. Well, if Julio Franco can come back... ...wait, he never left. Some playoff contender would love to have Layritz come off the bench as a pinch hitter. The guy was atrosiously mediocre for 99% of his career, but for some reason, in big games, he turned into Reggie Jackson. I can't want to here the PA announcer at Yankee Stadium next year say: "Now pinch hitting for Alex Rodriguez.... Jimmmmmmmmm LEY-ritzzzzzz
  5. Miller is grittier and has a ton more post season experience. I think he's also considered the better defensive catcher, and is the team leader type. But yeah, all logic says that Rivera would have more value. Baseball and logic often don't belong in the same sentence, however. It's likely that the Estrada trade cost Rivera a job with the Brewers, as dumb as that sounds.
  6. When I look at potential big corner outfield bats, the name Wily Mo Pena keeps hitting me. The Red Sox are on the lookout for a closer because they want to move Papelbon to the rotation. I'm willing to bet that we could flip them Coco Cordero for Pena, which I think would be a steal. Pena isn't a great LF, but he's young, and better out there than Lee. I think he's a potential 40 homer/120 RBI guy. I say a rumor that the Sox were interested in a Pena/Chad Cordero swap, so I don't think a trade for Coco is that far-fetched. The Brewers may have to add someone like Damian Miller or a youngish pen arm like Sarfate. Of course, this is under the assumption that Turnbow will rediscover the strike zone, or that Maddux can turn Aquino into a dominant closer.
  7. I can't see Hardy being given up on this early. It wasn't long ago when he was right up there with Mr. Weeks and Mr. Fielder on the prospect list, and the second half of his 2005 season showed that he can hit at this level. I'm not real sure what happened to him last year, but I'm not ready to send him packing yet. Plus, the idea of a Braun, Hardy, Weeks, Fielder infield in the not-so-distant future has me drooling.
  8. Second verse same as the first. Jenks has been that player for nearly a decade. He'll frustrate the heck out you and look like a t-baller against Roger Clemens for a couple weeks, then go on a terror and hit .400 with 10 HRs over a two week period. He's a nice player to have as a complimentary guy, but not someone you want to build your line-up around.
  9. Wow...makes me feel good that the Brewers have quality pitchers. When JDLR is not only in your rotation, but is actually one of the better pitchers in it, that does NOT bode well for your organization.
  10. Wow, terrific call kwelak21. Can you throw me some lottery numbers?
  11. Cruz actually had a double in a brief Sept. callup with the Brewers last season.
  12. maybe if Attanasio's plane wasn't an ultralight...
  13. Yes, Mr. Bush can win, but he cannot lose. (haven't been able to say that about a Brewers starter for awhile.)
  14. Well, in this game thread, we've had Corey Hart as the permanent replacement for Carlos Lee and Geoff Jenkins at various points. I now fully expect Jenks to bash a pinch hit grand slam in the 9th.
  15. Didn't Roberto Hernandez give up Hank Aaron's 743rd HR?
  16. Nope...with the way this pen is going, Bush can throw 160 pitches today as far as I'm concerned.
  17. Not, it's not funny at all. A tenured professor can slack off because once he has tenure, he basically has to shoot someone or have relations with a student to get canned. Besides, one decent game by a rookie does not a replacement make. Hart has a lot of potential, but saying that he can step in and take over for Jenkins based on one game is a little far fetched.
  18. Just a TAD ungrateful to the longest tenured Brewer, don't you think?
  19. Weeks hit into a fielder's choice in the 3rd. He then stole 2nd during Cirillo's AB that inning.
  20. Hey, the Brewers are beating a young, soft-tossing lefty on a crappy team! Has someone checked Hell for icicles yet?
  21. Sure, they got so frustrated that they couldn't steal signs that they started breaking stuff. That's like the Twins manager in Major League III planning an "electrical malfunction" right when the opposition was making a comeback.
  22. I don't think calling a quality start for once from Doug would be asking too much, or give him a potential hex. I'd take 7 innings and 3 earned runs. Baby steps.
  23. Greg Maddux never left. Wood and Prior (like Sheets) are only aces in name.
  24. A pitcher with an 8.44 ERA is replaced by one with a 6.44. Baby steps, I guess. I never thought I'd long for the days of Brooks Kieschnick. I wonder what Dave Burba is up to?
  25. Pretty sure that is Gavin Floyd. The Phillies have some decent young arms around.
