  1. Al, i have no idea who you have heard the reserve talk from....there have been several reports in the links that LuCroy is very highly regarded. For goodness sake, he is one of the best hitters as a catcher in the FSL, 13 months after being drafted. He is a better catching prospect than Salome in my mind. I really do not understand your thinking here or where you are getting this reserve information.
  2. In Commander Cody's last 18 innings at Brevard, he has given up 8 hits, 1 run, 5 walks, and has struck out 17. Other than the downer of his age for the league, Cody has really started to impress.
  3. The brawl in the Huntsville game apparently took 30 minutes, and started after Mike Brantley charged the mound after the Lookouts pitcher tried and failed to hit both Brantley and the Stars pitcher, Ryan.
  4. Just wanted to note that Sean Gallagher had a great outing in his debut for the A's last night, putting together a 7 2 2 2 3 7 line in the A's 9-2 win.
  5. Wow, reading this story makes your heart jump a little bit. I have sat in the area where these seats are at at Wrigley and some other stadiums, and you really have to be into the game, especially when pitchers are up to bat, because they can be so late with their swings. It looks like this little guy will survive, I hope that the swelling on his brain goes down and there is no long term neurological damage. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/chi-baseball-boy-hurtjul12,0,5534169.story
  6. If you get a chance to watch the recap of the O's/Red Sox game from Friday, take a look at the call on Julio Lugo after he hits a ball to Kevin Millar at first. Simply amazing.....Lugo was called out, and beat the throw by a significant amount....it is truly startling to see.
  7. In the middle of the Idaho Falls/Helena game you may have noticed the name of Fond du lac native Stephen Gilgenbach, who pitched at Arkansas-Little Rock before debuting with Idaho Falls this year.
  8. Is it true that Mota trips old ladies as they try to cross the road? Please count me in.
  9. For anyone looking at the Arizona box score today, you may have noticed an outfielder named Mantle in the boxscore for the (little) Giants. A little googling has turned up that Ryan Mantle is related to the great Mickey Mantle - as he is Mickey's third cousin.
  10. Just to reiterate, Odorizzi is apparently making his debut today He pitched well too, as he gave up a lone hit and no runs in his 2 innings of work, along with 2 k's
  11. Speculation that Aaron Harang of the Reds is experiencing a serious arm problem, and some spectacularily silly quotes from Dusty. http://www.daytondailynews.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/dayton/cincinnatireds/entries/2008/07/08/oh_the_pain_and_the_agony.html
  12. This is one weird thread. It seems that some poeple need to have a black/white viewpoint of Brewers management rather than collaborative. Jack Z has been excellent, though he has made mistakes like Josh Murray too - he is not infallible. Likewise, Melvin has made some mistakes as well, but he has far more successes than failures, and as mentioned in postseason 2006's good comment (as opposed to postseason2006 calling Gagne, Gagme...can we put an end to that please), Melvin is more than willing to give Jack Z his proper plaudits.
  13. Bob "The Vulture" McClure, the former Brewer reliever who is now the Royals pitching coach got into a pretty heated argument with a certifiable Jose Guillen while press was in the locker room. Guillen is a good player, but no way would I want this putz on my team. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=Aq.pumfKhskry.d8zHxcswc5nYcB?slug=ap-royals-guillenincident&prov=ap&type=lgns
  14. All of us that have gone through college can remember stupid things that we have done or witnessed. In this instance, the stupid act caused the death of one player and the jailing of four others. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=3466477 EDIT: Activated link...
  15. LaPorta is the best player of any of the guys offered between the Brewers and Dodgers Honestly, I would like to make the argument that each of LaPorta, Green, and Cain are better prospects that anything in the Dodgers stated offer. Cain is 13th in the FSL in OPS, tied for 4th in doubles, and is 5th in stolen bases, all while being 22 and regarded as a plus defender. 5 tools, and getting better. Green is 10th in OPS, 2nd in Rbi's, and plays a premium position - all in a park (and league) that suppresses offensive numbers.
  16. This site gives renters a chance to review apartments that they have lived in....not a ton of reviews, but still. http://www.apartmentratings.com/rate/WI-Appleton.html
  17. Troy Tulowitski slammed a bat in anger at manager Clint Hurdle decision to take him out of last night's game. A shard from the bat lodged in his thumb, and he is going to need surgery to repair the thumb, perhaps jeopardizing his season. Wow. http://www.rockymountainnews.com/news/2008/jul/05/rockies-put-tulo-dl-demote-reynolds/
  18. I know there are some that view the soon to be 25 year old LaRoche as a potential gem, but that Dodger offer really pales in comparison to what the Brewers are offering. BA ranked us the 21st best farm system in the league prior to the season This is a great point Peavey and one that should be addressed. Baseball America badly badly badly dropped the ball on this ranking, to the point that their reputation should be looked at as being sullied. If the scouts information is to be believed in regard to the quality of the Huntsville prospects, the Brewers system is at least top 5 and probably in the top half of that. This is something that should be addressed in some manner with the BA staff in a mailbag perhaps
  19. Haudricourt took the time to shoot down the rumor started by WSSP, which is to radio what I Love New York is to reality television.
  20. Betencourt is an older relief pitcher (33) that has had several good years in the past, 1 amazing year (last year- in which he may have been the best set up man in baseball), and 1 awful year (this year -where he has a 6 ERA, but ok secondary numbers). If his arm is healthy he would be a fine trade addition. Gutierrez has no place in this trade nor on our team. I am wondering if the deal is LaPorta/Green/Cain for CC or LaPorta/Green/ Villanueva for CC and Betencourt. The Indians need to make a decision soon, and I am glad the Brewers seem to be of a like mind on this with the hints of a depreciating offer. If Cleveland gets too cute with this, they may end up with a lesser deal, though fans may never know about it.
  21. Personally I hope that we are renting Sabathia for four months, not 2. The trade as it is proposed seems fair to both sides. Sabathia is a Cy Young winner...he is not Matt Cain from a contract nor from a current/past level of performance perspective. If we want to have a deep playoff run this year, this is the type of trade we simply have to make. LaPorta is a tough guy to give up, as is Green, to be honest. But to simply say a rental is not woth these guys is to be short-sighted as to what this "rental" would provide in terms of real credability for the Brewers in terms of their status as a team to be reckoned with for the post-season, and in the post-season. We need to do a LaPorta/Green/Cain deal, and the Indians would be foolish to turn it down.
  22. From the article above, a nice mention from the opposing manager on Michael Bowman "We played well all the way around," Mustangs manager Julio Garcia said. "(Bowman) is one of the better pitchers I've seen, and we were able to get something going early and get hot and get him out of the game."
  23. I keep hoping they do a Laporta / Errecart / Nelson trade for Sabathia and a straight up Weeks for Roberts.. That would be a flippin dream...oh, how I would love that.....
  24. With his two homers tonight bumping his league leading total to 7 (2nd place has 4), Chris Dennis now has more home runs that the entire Idaho Falls team(6). Edit: I think we all need a review of Colby's excellent report on the players of our 2007 draft http://www.brewerfan.net/ViewArticle.do?articleId=269
  25. Pedro, thanks again for your goodwill offering......I would like some demotaification.
