  1. From the second Murray link...... Before he came to Georgia, he played minor league baseball until injuries forced him out of the game. That made me laugh a little bit..... I watched Brewer today vs. South Carolina, and he was a big reason for the loss....he was brutal
  2. I am still hoping that John Farrell, the Red Sox pitching coach that stopped Molitor's hitting streak at 39, will be the under the radar guy. The guy is widely known as beloved by his pitchers, and he has done a very solid job with some young Sox pitchers. One caveat is that i am unsure Peterson would be retained under that scenario
  3. I assume that this stuff is still from the Suppan signing right? Because if this is venom for signing Wolf - look at some stats from hawing's link from the other day....Wolf was a good signing and worth his contract.
  4. That was spectacular.. Thanks hawing for that link.
  5. Glad to have someone else on the Garfield bandwagon.....19 year old catchers in the midwest league that completely handle the entire staff as Garfield did are exceptionally rare. While his stats have not popped off the page yet, I think patience with him will be rewarded.
  6. Actually, I agree with both X and Al, as the truly outstanding performances noted above (and Weeks) have been nullified by not only the pitching inadequacies but some very subpar offensive performances as well. Fielder's presence in this lineup cannot be undermined...those 114 walks are more of a testement to me to how opponents view him than an exceptional batting eye.
  7. Fielder (19), Hart (23), and Braun (25) all amongst the top 25 in all the majors for qualified players in OPS. Somewhat deflating that these quality seasons have been somewhat for naught in the larger perspective.
  8. Thebruce - ready to make such pronouncements over UZR? Really? I have been on brewerfan for a decade (and actually have enjoyed your posts) and have seen many smart people people hang their hats on unsupportable tenets. This is simply one of those times. Defensive metrics as reliable measures do not exist.
  9. Anytime someone on here quoyes uzr I immediately discount their baseball knowledge. I know that includes some pretty sage people On here but I cannot help it. Uzr is evil people.
  10. It's ok wibad, I usually read the info on this site out loud with a Mary Poppins-esque Cockney accent anyway for no good reason. Tulo has been sick, and I am very much rooting for the Rockies. A Rockies/Rays series would work for me.
  11. I'm very pleased to see Wolf's solid performances lately are getting recognized on this board after seeing an avalanche of venom spewed towards both Wolf and Melvin on the jsonline blog site this morning. The stupidity espoused on that site vexes me (especially since a guy stole my molitor fan tag and is one of the posters that befuddle me with their lack of logic), but I was still surprised that Wolf's great start last night was poo-poo'd as meaningless there. I think Wolf is a more than competent 3rd starter and while his contract was a risk, I think Doug made the right call on this one.
  12. I love the link report. I truly miss it during the minor league offseason..... A yeoman's effort all the way around
  13. The next time Nichols impresses me with a response will be the first. Never have been a fan of his, as I think that through the years there have been many player decisions that have been counterintuitive and he just seems to lack creativity. I am a Melvin fan and am glad Mark A sees the wisdom in keeping Doug, but part of me would have been very pleased to see Nichols jettisoned.
  14. Thornburg will apparently end his season with 47 strikeouts in 27 innings. Sick.
  15. I have been reading about how it is not a big deal that college players should be dominating in the Pioneer league and have always thought that was extremely inaccurate. So today, I did a little research on the average age of players in the league and found that the average age of a player in the league is 21.75 years of age, with Helena's average age being 22. I fail to see how a player should be expected to dominate a league in which they are at league age average.
  16. X, your view on Farris has always confused me....a guy batting .290 with a 700 Ops and elite level speed - (70 for 76 is just silly) in AAA while playing highly regarded defense is a bigtime asset. I mean, that is just a fact. And Wheeler errors are pretty startling in totality, but I love that guys game. He has some power, speed, patience and versatility - what is not to like. Taylor Green has been outright nasty lately too. Considering Escobar is going to be at SS for quite a while, look at what the Brewers have as options at 2B for the next several years. It is pretty much an embarassment of riches....I would challenge doubters to find more than a few organinizations, if that, that have a better supply in that area. Gregmag, so happy to see you back posting by the way.
  17. I agree with the original premise and extend it to some of the higher level hitters like Gamel and Farris...I think Farris has rebounded from his injury with aplomb, as he is in the .290 range in batting average while skipping AA. His .700 OPS is not ideal but his 70 for 76 steal rate from last year shows that he can still be an effective major leaguer one day. And Gamel - wow. Gamel has given me some level of confidence that he can be our first baseman next year if Prince is jetisoned. Komatsu has been a revelation, Lawrie has been excellent, and is a MVP candidate of his league. I love Cam Garfield, and think that a 19 year old catcher in the midwest league hitting .255 and being steady is actually pretty special. Hawn has mashed - leading the league in rbi's by ten (about 20%) when I last checked, and I think D'Vo is going to be a big leaguer one day. Kentrail Davis is having a far superior year to Aaron Hicks of Beloit, who is regarded by some as a top 20 overall prospect (give me Kirby Puckett over Matt Kemp II any day of the week). I love our minor league system, think it is very underrated, and am very thankful to the people on this site that keep the info about them coming.
  18. The thing with the FSL is that hitting stats are severely skewed. Thus, I think hitting stats like the ones Komatsu is putting up this year get overlooked. The 22 year old outfielder is 2nd in the league in OPS, (trailing only a 25 year old DH), has decent speed, and apparently is decent defensively. He is 25th in the latest power 50, but this kind of season is really rather extraordinary.
  19. It is easy to forget that Nieves is just 20 years old - his last month has thrust him back onto my prospect radar. Cameron Garfield is a top 20 Brewer prospect on my personal list even though his OPS is under .650. The 19 year old has acquitted himself very well in the Midwest League all year long, and if one looks closely, he gets a great deal of praise from those that see him every day. Thanks, thanks, thanks by the way to Mass and battlekow for doing the leg work to gather all this info together so that we can make these personal assessments. Without them it would be 100% guesswork instead of just 97%.....
  20. I have lived in Charlotte for the last two years and love it...the weather is so much more tolerable and the amount of transplants here make this a really welcoming place for newcomers.
  21. Arnett's last 9 innings - 2 hits 1 run....now that is more like it....I have a feeling that there are several on this board that have their opinion already locked in on Arnett and will not exactly be rooting for his future successes. Hawn with 2 more home runs...if Morris is injured for a period of time, I would ove to see what Hawn can do in Appleton... I am really pleased with Huntsville's streak of wins versus jacksonsville, a team that seems led by a jerk manager and with a bunch of "opinionated" players. And oh yeah, Gennett is amazing.
  22. This was crazy. In Baltimore a college kid literally gets winded and has to ask to get arrested after jumping onto the diamond and running around for over two minutes as the cops just let him do what he wants. Not sure the Philly tasering was the right call either, but come on, this is just silly.http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_league_stew/post/Security-shrugs-as-O-s-mope-runs-laps-around-Cam?urn=mlb-257721
  23. Just want to note that Braddock, who has a very troubling history of arm woes, has been shut down indefinitely with arm fatigue....Braddock needs to be viewed as the cherry on the sundae and not relied on in my view.
  24. By far the most vexing part of these Fielder trade rumors is in reading all these idiots from other boards calling Fielder fat and a tub of lard. Fielder is a ___ brickhouse, a football player body that happens to have an amazing uppercut swing. As someone that has seen Hudson pitch twice live while he was pitching triple A where I live in Charlotte, I hope Hudson is not a centerpiece to any deal. He is not a difference maker.
  25. Patrick, not a big deal, but i truly hope you are not a MPS Math teacher. (70-29). And I still think that is just a mind-boggling stat.
