  1. Haudricourt just posted a blog entry which indicated the White Sox, in his mind, would be an attractive target if they included Dayen Viciedo along with hudson in a Fielder deal. I have seen Viciedo a bit since I live in Charlotte, where the Sox AAA affiliate is, and Viciedo scares me. The Cuban 1st baseman is listed at 21 but looks 31, and has no patience at the plate at all, as he has just 30 walks in over a season and a half. He does have prodigious power, but then so does Katin.
  2. Lost in the shuffle of Fielders struggles with picking up Rbi's this season is the fact that Weeks is knocking runs in at a record pace. At his current rate Weeks would solidly beat Jimmy Rollins NL record of 94 RBI's set in his 2007 MVP season (I must note that only 83 came as a leadoff hitter, as 11 came while hitting 3rd), and would eke past Nomar Garciaparras record of 98 set in 1997. Weeks has received some press this morning for setting the Brewers all-time 2nd baseman home run record, but this leadoff record (all his rbi's come from the leadoff spot this year) needs to get some attention. If the JS writers see this and run with it, please note that it was culled from brewerfan.
  3. After looking at Dooling's yahoo game by game record, I was flabbergasted to see that of the 29 games that Dooling missed last year, the Nets lost all 29....Yes, you saw that correct, they were 0-29.
  4. I know I may well hate myself in the morning for this but I am starting to like the idea of holding onto Hart for the long haul. Everyone can see the gaps in his swing and I certainly remember slider-gate of the recent past in which he was Flaily Mcflailerson for an extremely extended period of time, but the 28 year old Hart may simply be maturing into his body/role, and I would hate to see him in another uniform doing this. And by this, I mean having the 11th best OPS in the Majors, 4th best in the NL, and with the top OPS among NL OF's (2nd overall). He leads the NL in home runs (tied) and quite simply, appears to be undervalued by both fans and gm's. Hart is having a magnigicent season and I think the dropoff from Matt Holiday to Hart may be a much smaller leap than many may visualize.
  5. And now he is dead. You win. Wow FTJ, really?. I suggest one reads up on Wellington Mara's handling of his business dealings versus Steinbrenner as an example of how one New York owner lifted up his sport while another tore it asunder for his own gains.
  6. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/marinersblog/2012335914_the_politics_of_crime_baseball.html Interesting bit of news here as Jack Z may be in a spot of trouble with his bosses concerning the prior criminal history (sex crime) of one of the players he received in the Cliff Lee deal. What Jack Z knew/perhaps did not disclose could potentially jeopardize his employment I would guess. Yikes.
  7. Just to be clear, Hart has done a whole lot more than just resurrect his trade value - he has had what I consider the best overall statistical year of any national league outfielder so far. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/stats/byposition?pos=LF,CF,RF&conference=NL&year=season_2010&qualified=1&sort=25 While I can get on board with a trade of Hart, lets not overlook the value of Hart currently.
  8. draysbay has about 200 posts and counting on this possible Wade Davis for Hart deal. Though I thought Minor was a likely acquisition last week, it truly looks like Hart's continued production has created a wider swath of interest and some very intriguing names being bandied about as return. Wade Davis at 24 has spent the entire season so far in the rotation, with some decent results sullied by a very troubling gopher ball issue. Heck of an interesting conversation piece however.
  9. http://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/hardball/up_more_thoughts_on_lee_trade_fZPq0skMLfj9mAUNIURryN As a Yankee hater dating back to the late 70's, when the Brewers treated an 8 year old to a home season sweep of the Yanks (thanks dad for the tix and 85 mile drive from Oshkosh for each game), I always love it when the Bronx Bombers take one up the jiggy. Sounds like the Yankees and Cashman may be unwilling to trade in the future with the "evil" Jack Z. Also, it sounds like Lawrie was on the very short list of players, along with Smoak and Montero, that Jack Z would accept as return in the Lee package. Nice to see Lawrie being recognized as one of the top 10 advanced prospects in the game, as Lawrie has not been getting the respect he deserves on this board for his performance this season.
  10. Again, the numbers are really meaningless given the level of competition and that we don't even know what Arnett's throwing/working on Jeesh, give the kid some credit. The thing that has gone by the wayside in the age of instant information and bonuses is patience. Romanski, Tony Butler, and Arnett to a somewhat different degree (even Lintz) should be allowed time past their 22nd birthdays to put it all together.
  11. http://www.talkingchop.com/2010/7/8/1558895/mike-minor-is-the-braves-most Also discussed in the other Hart thread.
  12. http://www.talkingchop.com/2010/7/8/1558895/mike-minor-is-the-braves-most I think this is happening and might occur before the weekend is over. Minor is a lefty with an advanced feel for the game and while only the Braves #3 pitching prospect, he has zoomed through the minors, produced 2 quality AAA starts and was the #7 overall pick last year. Whether Kawakami gets thrown into this deal will be the most intriguing thing for me.....I want Melvin to be uber-active in the next 3 weeks.
  13. Fiers now with a 29 walks to 158 k's ratio in his 140 professional innings.
  14. SportsCenter just broke in to report than Jones, who was a 3rd round draft pick of the NY Giants in the NFL, has been involved in a very serious car accident with a broken leg and nerve damage in his lower extremities. http://content.usatoday.com/communities/gameon/post/2010/06/new-york-giants-draft-pick-chad-jones-in-serious-car-crash/1
  15. I want to be the driver of the Cody Hawn bandwagon (hence the avatar change). I think he is going to be schmacking some serious dinger totals until he gets to Wisconsin in about a month. He is just as ready as Morris in my opinion
  16. Also I will have a very nice grin if you get a chance to pitch against the Brewers and shut them down. They deserve it it for such a classless midseason, undeserved action That is just crazy talk. 13/6 walk/k ratio more than trumps the ERA.... the Josh Romanski decision....now there is a move that deserves some more attention
  17. I love the Power 50 and the work that goes into it, but the fact that Wheeler is now again not even on the list just confuses me. The guy has performed on a very consistant basis, shows position flexability, has been recognized as the best in his league on a regular basis through all-star selections, shows excellent secondary skills.....I could go on. What is the deal with this seriously? The guy is a top 30 player and has been for a while. Heether gets love as a freaking 28 year old and Wheeler is bumped off the list? I do not get it..
  18. In the last decade the Cubs have now increased the average price of their tickets over 100%. Wowhttp://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AuB9OSpEaZ2s5afwmlrd9bo5nYcB?slug=ap-ticketprices
  19. I agree completely, Mark A should keep going after the attrociously permed Levine....especially now since complete fools like Colin Cowherd are getting Levine's back. Cowherd, who stated that he does not watch any baseball game that does not involve the Yankees because they "at least have stars", attacked the Brewers as being a "pathetic joke" of a franchise. I would love Mark A, who is intelligent and has integrity, drag these morons into the public so their stupidity can be dragged into the wide open.
  20. Briggs and Stratton said: "My memories are all negative" That's why i love you, Scarecrow, most of all.
  21. Jenkins article was absolutely disgusting.....what an embarrassment to his profession
  22. After looking at the mcGehee pics from spring training this year the MB stands for Man Boobs instead of Milwaukee Brewers. Yikes.
  23. I teach in the Charlotte area with a friend of Sherrills, and she stated that the release was a shock to him as well. He was told it was a numbers thing combined with the fact they did not have time to allow for him to further recover from his injury. A pretty rough glimpse into the need for prospects to make an immediate, and healthy, impact on their organization.
  24. That was a really cool story, thanks for sharing. I will be rooting for Lofgren just a little bit more to make the roster now...
  25. lest we forget how good he was before the arm woes, in the five year period immediately before the injuries he was 88-40 with a 3.55 ERA....he once was only behind Randy Johnson in terms of lefty dominance for his era. Yeah, i want to take a chance on that.
