  1. They were still in shock from learning that Matt Stairs was still in the majors.
  2. I don't think its at all outrageous to think he could start next year. If he gets a few starts in September, does well, and dominates in ST next year, its very possible he could wind up in the rotation. And if he's doing a good job, why not?
  3. I think I have one of those http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2796/4221670532_572f52e30a.jpg
  4. I swear, he had almost exactly the same quote earlier this year. .260 and everything.
  5. Sanchez was benched for Podsednik, who was only 27 at the time. Brady Clark didn't really play CF until after S-Pod was traded.
  6. I don't think I could ever buy a phone without a real keyboard. IMO, the Evo is way too huge, but I haven't seen the other in person so I'm not sure how they compare. Have you considered any other phones? I believe Sprint makes you pay an extra $10/mo for 4G on those, even though you can't really use it anywhere yet.
  7. Hope Gallon goes to Europe, as I think he could really help in the future. But for him, he may be better off signing with a D-League team, which would give him a good shot at the NBA this year if he puts up decent numbers.
  8. In Europe, a lot of soccer fans value their team playing "attractive football" as much as they value winning. I don't understand it myself, but there are plenty of people out there who would prefer to see their team lose with lots of clean forward passes on the ground, rather than win by punting the ball 80 yards in the air, hoping to hit an on-side forward near the goal on every possession. Park effects aside, there may have been similar thinking. edit: actually, that type of thinking is probably still around today to some extent, judging by how often I hear fans complain about how the Brewers try to hit home runs too much.
  9. Eh, I'm not so sure. Heck, we could draft him at #15 next year, and everything will be pretty much the same as if he would have signed today.
  10. Actually, it seems like the AZ schedule would be a lot easier to deal with - still close-ish to home, no bus rides longer than across town (aside from the odd trip to Tucson). But I'm not going to argue - their decision makes sense, and we have no idea what all was considered.
  11. They did make the call right away. The official let him know at the end of the hole, likely saying something like, "I'm sorry, we assessed a penalty for grounding your club in the bunker, make sure you mark it on your scorecard." And that may be the normal procedure - I don't know, I've never played in a golf tournament. It's not a stupid rule, for the reasons Baldkin pointed out. If it is rarely enforced, it's because the rule is rarely broken. Every golfer knows that you're not supposed to do that. While Johnson's grounding may not have affected the outcome, another player doing the same thing in a different bunker might have had a big impact on how he took the shot. You can't pick and choose where to enforce the rule, it has to be consistent.
  12. I'll bite. Sheets - I don't the Brewers publicly criticizing his durability and work ethic. Freaking geeks on the internet, sure, but I definitely don't recall the front office saying that. The impression I got was that the Brewers were interested in bringing him back, but the money offered was way off of what Sheets wanted. Hardy - check his stats again. Everybody here thinks Gomez should be sent to AAA, and Hardy was just as bad. It isn't the Brewers fault he sucked. If he would have raked in AAA, things might have turned out differently. Hall - I think you're wearing out the hindsight goggles here. Hall was terrible, and showed no signs that things would get better. Plain and simple, he was a waste of a roster spot - we would have had to pay him either way, so why keep him around when we could use that valuable roster spot on someone who is actually above replacement level? Jenkins - He has a $9m option, and no club in all of baseball would have picked that up. For all intents and purposes, his contract was up, and he signed with someone else as a free agent.
  13. You mean the same Jenkins, Hall and Hardy who had come off of (or were in the middle of) seasons where they were worse than Chris Dickerson, but were owed a ton of money?
  14. I'd be surprised if Riske's contract hasn't been mostly covered by insurance. Maybe Hawkins' too. FWIW, I still think Riske was a good signing, given what we knew at the time.
  15. Can we get rid of marketing buzzwords too? I would have no problem sending anything related to web 2.0 straight to the cloud, never to be heard from again.
  16. Sure seems like it, especially former Brewers. Heck, it wouldn't surprise me to see Richie Sexson with a ST invite next year.
  17. I think there have been a few quotes from Gomez suggesting that he thinks he's doing well, and that he doesn't feel his game needs improvement. While I do like the confidence, that's obviously not true.
  18. I hope so, all of those "ball" lights on the scoreboards are going to need it. :rimshot:
  19. Yep, Piggly Wiggly seems strange to me too. They seem to sponsor a lot of stuff, but their stores are almost entirely in small towns, far away from the stadiums. Here's an awesome one - the Miami Heat play in American Airlines Arena, and the Dallas Mavericks play in American Airlines Center. And I think there are several 5/3 Parks and US Cellular Fields sprinkled throughout the minor leagues.
  20. Indeed, I was expecting this thread to be a review of the club level at PNC Park. Bet their nachos aren't as good. On a side note, when did PNC Banks start showing up in Milwaukee? I don't think I've seen one.
  21. Once a thread gets to 5 or so pages, I give up on the baseball. If you could get it to work even once on a 145 page thread, I would be happy to declare you king of the yuku.
  22. Yep, Chuck Crim vs Toronto. Started the inning, then moved to 1B while Tony Fossas pitched to one batter, and then finished the inning. Got credit for the save, too: http://www.baseball-refer...s/TOR/TOR198906060.shtml
  23. I think that's pretty much it. People who don't actually like beer, but want to drink it anyway for some reason, seem to see it as a "better" option along the lines of Miller Lite or whatever.
