  1. The thing that intrigues me about Dillard is that he really hasn't pitched for that long, as he was drafted as a catcher. So in theory, he has more life left in his arm than most 24 year olds, and possibly more room for improvement. His career numbers remind me of 2005 Dave Bush, and I'd certainly be happy with that in our rotation right now.
  2. You have to consider that most of those teams were bottom-feeders with no hope whatsoever of making the postseason. Like the 2002 Brewers, for example. I'd bet that those 12 that did make the playoffs were in situations similar to the Brewers - a team picked by many to go to the playoffs before the season, but underachieved under the manager they started with. Others have already stated why Kremblas would be a good choice. IMO, it is more difficult to win in the minors, especially in an organization that prioritizes player development over all else. Kremblas has done a great job at both.
  3. Any reason why Tim Dillard isn't in Nashville's rotation? It seems like his prospect status fell a bit after a mediocre 2007, but he's done alright so far, and he's younger than some of the other guys in the rotation.
  4. Kremblas would be my choice, has been for awhile.
  5. Hopefully he'll go on and have a great season, thus adding more fuel to my "cancer makes you better at sports" theory (currently supported by Mario Lemieux, Lance Armstrong, and Josh Bidwell).
  6. Gwynn for Inman and Garrison!
  7. This guy sure has some nice hindsight goggles. And no Chicago Blackhawks?
  8. Better yet, how about those nets that bounce the ball back to you, that kids use to practice pitching?
  9. I'd bet that a lot of them probably can. Now, we have more teams, which means more pitchers, which means a more diluted talent pool. Guys like Wayne Franklin would have never sniffed the major leagues in the 60s and 70s. Livan Hernandez might be able to go 150 pitches every 3-4 days with no problem, but the other guys in the rotation can't. So, we have to account for the other, crappier pitchers and give them proper rest.
  10. Here's a few from this year, and a couple from 2007 spring training. http://www.colinbaker.org/files/images/dsc_0344.medium.jpg View from RF bleachers http://www.colinbaker.org/files/images/dsc_0366.medium.jpg Counsell's wacky stance http://www.colinbaker.org/files/images/dsc_0292_0.medium.jpg Gabe Kapler dinger vs San Francisco http://www.colinbaker.org/files/images/101_3744.medium.JPG JD Closser is sick of the Cubs too http://www.colinbaker.org/files/images/101_3757.medium.JPG The legendary Brady Clark http://www.colinbaker.org/files/images/101_3995.preview.jpg Randy Quaid
  11. Like you say, he's doing a pretty good job of that on his own. If he starts going longer into games, I think it falls into the "good problem to have" category. And then, maybe his lack of innings early on will be a blessing in disguise, and prevent him from going over his set limit.
  12. What incentive do they have to change it? The fans continue to pour money into the team, so it must not bother them too much...in fact, a change would probably lead to some outrage. Those who would be happy about a name change are people who probably aren't fans of the team, or even the sport. If everybody who protests an offensive team nickname/mascot went out and bought a season ticket as soon as the name was changed, things might be different. Let's say that one day, Notre Dame changes their nickname to not offend the Irish. Would there be a lot of pissed off fans? Absolutely. Would every Irish person in the country jump right on the season ticket waiting list, and watch the Notre Dame Wildcats play every Saturday? Doubtful.
  13. He was pretty good after he got called back up from AAA!
  14. Free software vs expensive software, for one. I can do anything that I would normally do with a computer on linux (including many things I can't do on Windows), so why pay several hundred dollars for Windows?
  15. I don't know anything about Torres, but it looks like he may have been injured/out of baseball for a significant amount of time. Before that, he made a big jump from A to AAA, so he was probably a decent prospect at that point. Perhaps the club sees him as something of a reclamation project? I'm just throwing out guesses, but I tend agree with you.
  16. Well, I think we're deserving of some good luck now. Like, say, Dave Bush's BABIP returning to Earth? Please?
  17. They did, IIRC it was right around the time they were trying to trade for A-Rod: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1650053
  18. Your anti Tony Gwynn bias is showing endaround. What has Tony Gwynn done this year that causes you to make outrageous statements like this? Nothing, that's the problem.
  19. Why didn't anybody claim Manny Ramirez, then? Or is it different if the player isn't DFA'd?
  20. Branyan or Nelson make the most sense, if there is a roster spot free. Otherwise I'd bet on Braun or Fielder.
  21. I think Turnbow will do well in AAA, but that certainly doesn't guarantee that he'll continue to do well if we call him back up. Even if he is mowing everyone down in Nashville, we can't risk the roster spot for him until September IMO. $3m is too much for a AAA closer, so best bet at this point is to try and swap him for another underperforming reliever. Someone mentioned Mike Timlin in the other Turnbow thread, or maybe bring back Luis Vizcaino, who has a 27.00 ERA and a phantom injury with Colorado. Swap him for someone like that, and hope that both players do better with a change of scenery.
  22. Yeah, I don't see any way this is the fault of the police. In fact, Noble Wray sounded pretty pissed that they were never given this information.
  23. I think this is our best bet. Change of scenery for change of scenery and such.
  24. Hope the opposing pitcher pitches a CG with 10 Ks & an unearned run (that being the game winner)? I'll always root for the Brewers first, but if they lose and someone on my fantasy team does well, I'll consider that a consolation.
