  1. It's not likely, but he is less-far removed from even better numbers than Cirillo or Kapler's good seasons (if that makes any sense). The Brewers seem to have a decent track record with reclamation projects, so he might be worth a punt on a minor league deal.
  2. Stupid proposition of the day: Sign Richie Sexson, send him to AAA to get some ABs, see if he can return to form for us like Jeff Cirillo did. If it looks like he can, consider trading Fielder, and let Sexson be the stopgap until LaPorta/Gamel/whoever.
  3. Agreed. It was a tough game, and Ned made some good decisions. Hopefully that will continue to be the case more often than not.
  4. You know, with the Brewers track record with reclamation projects, picking up Sexson on a minor league contract might not be a bad thing, especially if there is a possibility that Prince could be traded. He hasn't been good in a few years, but if there's a chance he could return to a comfortable place and pull a Cirillo, why not?
  5. But...what if you were watching on a TV at Miller Park? Better yet, watching at Miller Park with Bob and Jim on headphones?
  6. There may not have been good options, but anything was better than Tavarez. After the 11th, it should have been a forgone conclusion that Tavarez will fail if left out for the 12th. DiFelice has been a starter for almost all of his career, so 2 IP the previous day shouldn't have been a big issue. The little league homerun that he did give up was, at least partially, a result of poor defending. And yes, 3 HR in 8 IP is a lot, but he had also allowed only 8 baserunners, which is quite good. Either way you look at it, 8 IP of stats really isn't worth much. He may not have been a great option, but he would have been better than nothing (Tavarez). Look at it this way - say you were managing a team, and you had to pick between Dave Bush and David Manning for your rotation. You wouldn't pick Manning simply because Bush isn't very good, right? Same thing with DiFelice (or Dillard, Mota, etc) vs Tavarez. If the choices are bad vs horrible, I'll go with bad (though DiFelice is fine IMO).
  7. Yep, my thought when I read the headline was that he'd miss 2009. That would have been bad.
  8. Didn't see this posted before, but apparently Valerio De Los Santos is back in organized baseball, with Colorado's AAA affiliate. He's even spent some time in their starting rotation, though he's on the DL now. I can't believe VDLS is 35 now...he was one of the first Brewers prospects I remember following as a kid. Now, if only Todd Dunn would make a comeback.
  9. Didn't see that game, but if the ref was Howard Webb, he deserves all the bashing he gets. Otherwise, the refs have been pretty good IMO.
  10. Paul DePodesta posted this on his blog the other day: http://www.colinbaker.org/files/images/process.jpg Taking Saturday's game as an example, Julian Tavarez was probably the wrong pitcher to use in the 11th inning, but it turned out ok. Dumb luck. Ned should have realized that he lucked out, but the "bad process" continued when Ned left Tavarez out in the 12th, and the results were predictable. For the most part, being on the top half of the table is a good thing. This leaves everything up to the players. Most managerial decisions don't matter a whole lot, but the "bad process" decisions will eventually lead to some losses. I'd put the number of Ned's "could have cost us the game" bad decisions in the 5-10 range, but even if he had made the right decisions, we still could have fallen into the "bad break" corner of the table.
  11. jhart, I think either 73 or N will work. N may be a little quicker, but I don't go to Sun Prairie often, so I can't be sure. According to the DOT's map, neither road is closed: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&oe=UTF8&msa=0&msid=106714907945366530639.00044f3ec972fee85471d&ll=43.189158,-89.500122&spn=1.874356,3.383789&z=8
  12. Well Duh! To be a good pitcher you gotta battle and know how to win. I wonder what Wayne Franklin is up to these days...
  13. Can Dave Bush play 2nd base?
  14. I swear, they must do this intentionally. http://www.colinbaker.org/files/images/yankswang.png
  15. GUMS. BLOODSTREAM. HEART ATTACK. yeah ok dude. I actually think that one isn't so bad, at least compared to other Klements commercials. Though, it initially bothered me because the song sounded too much like Rocky Top.
  16. Yesterday, I took 59 to Palmyra, 106 to Fort Atkinson, and 12 to Madison. Very little traffic, and it seemed pretty quick.
  17. I've never worn them, but I don't see what the problem is. What is un-manly about them? Did Mike & Mike talk about them recently or something? FWIW, I wear sandals with socks sometimes. Apparently you're not supposed to do that. I have no idea why, and nobody has ever been able to explain it to me.
  18. I've only heard their normal-ish commercials on AM radio, but yeah, it appears that they bought some crappy apartments and tried to sell them as condos, but didn't realise that 42358795423 people in Madison have done that before them, and nobody wanted to buy those either.
  19. ANY COUPON WORKS! That commercial actually inspired me to go there for the first time. It was too ridiculous to ignore.
  20. I think that freecreditreport.com jerk needs to start accepting responsibility for his own screw-ups. No dude, you don't have a crappy car because you didn't go to freecreditreport.com. You have a crappy car because you have a crappy job (because you have no skills, not because you didn't visit some website) and you don't pay your bills.
  21. I would have kept the starter who had given up 3 hits and thrown just 85 pitches in the game, but that's just me.
  22. ccbrew, go for it! Despite the recent troubles, Fulham actually have a lot going for them right now. The new manager Roy Hodgson, who took over at the end of December, has tons of experience pretty much everywhere in Europe. He was the Director of Football at Inter Milan before joining Fulham, so he has plenty of contacts and, so far, seems to have a great eye for talent - sort of a poor man's Arsene Wenger. In addition to Dempsey, we also have Eddie Johnson and Kasey Keller, and we've had McBride, Carlos Bocanegra, Eddie Lewis, and Marcus Hahnemann in the past. McBride (who is returning to MLS this summer) is considered a legend among Fulham fans. Check out http://fulhamusa.com, they have a very active forum with fans from all over the US. I do have a lot of respect for Arsenal, though. They really don't spend very much on transfers, as Wenger is great at finding nuggets in France, West Africa, and other unlikely places. I won't root for them or anything, but I'd compare them to the Atlanta Braves of the 90s. Just don't support QPR!
  23. I'm pretty excited about tomorrow's games. I like Croatia quite a bit (and not just for knocking England out!), and I want to keep an eye on Austria's striker Roland Linz, as Fulham are supposedly interested in him. Germany-Poland is always a good one too...would be even better if Klose and Podolski were playing for the country in which they were born.
  24. Hehe, my son had the exact same hat!
