  1. In his last full season, Hardy put up a .796 OPS in the pitcher-friendly Southern League - at age 20. That's actually better than what Weeks did there, and Weeks was a year older.
  2. You're right, a 22-year-old rookie who only had a handful of at bats above AA coming into the season has no chance to improve.
  3. Well, neither were Scott Podsednik or Alex Sanchez, but we sent them out there every day anyway. I do think that Hart would have seen more time in CF if not for the presence of Dave Krynzel. Krynzel is so much better defensively than anyone I've seen in the organization that it would have been a waste to put him anywhere else on a regular basis.
  4. DONT MESS AROUND WITH THE GUY IN SHADES
  5. Any idea why Sarfate was skipped? Can we start the roster move speculation yet?
  6. Yeah, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I do think it's possible for an outfielder to be good and not fast. Jenkins comes to mind, though his good-ness may be debatable.
  7. It's really hard to say. I can see how RF would be harder due to judging flyballs and making longer throws, but CF definitely requires more range. Since the CF needs to cover more ground, he has to make more plays, so you want your best outfielder there. Or, maybe your best fielder doesn't have the speed to cover CF. Something like that. Now I'm just confusing myself. edit: RF may be tougher (i don't know, i always was a middle infielder in my vast little league experience), but CF is more important. yeah, that's the ticket.
  8. It's Hart (don't mess around!), making his second start in CF this week. Just saw an article on milwaukeebrewers.com saying that Clark is day-to-day, so its hard to say if this is a long term move. I'll go on record saying that I hope it is.
  9. Guy in Shades gets another start in CF, with Krynzel in RF...could this be an audition for Magruder's roster spot? And Mike Myers gets another start, while Dennis Sarfate is stuck at AA.
  10. I have a feeling that Hart would have had a few more chances to play CF this year if it weren't for the fact that he's been on the same roster as Dave Krynzel. He's fast enough, and seems to be becoming a better outfielder with experience.
  11. The Cardinals have a ton of depth, and they rest guys like this all the time. I don't think they're trying to go easy on us...LaRussa has been doing this for years. That's how its supposed to work. I think WTMJ just turns the volume down a lot on their internet broadcast during games.
  12. Not to mention that, from what I've seen, he's excellent defensively at both 3rd and 2nd.
  13. Didn't Anderson make a rehab start in Arizona recently?
  14. This is what I don't like about the "closer" role. The opponent's best hitters will come up in the 7th, 8th, or 9th. It seems like a good idea to me to use your best reliever against the other team's best hitters. If the opposing team's #3 hitter is up in the 8th, it makes sense to bring in the closer then, and let some other scrub pitch to the bottom of the order in the 9th. edit: i can't click correctly
  15. hay ned yost, we have more than two relief pitchers ok
  16. Don't forget that Magruder showed grit, getting hit by that pitch and everything. He deserves a start in CF tomorrow too.
  17. Lehr might actually be a better hitter than Magruder.
  18. Man its a good thing Yost let Santos hit in the 5th so he could pitch that one extra inning.
  19. No, he's right. It really did sound like Sutton was excited to see that it was a foul.
  20. Well, Mike Matheny isn't exactly an elite hitter. Then again, it was against Brewer pitching.
  21. I'm not certain, but isn't there a rule that says you can't pick someone up in Rule V, and then stash him on the DL? Jones may have been added to the 40-man before he was last injured, so that was probably a different situation.
  22. I believe this is my first post in this place this cubs-giants game is ridiulous and i may run out of beer before it ends
