  1. It appears that Rogers has had his pitch count increased again. He went 5 innings, with 4 hits and 7 K's his last outing. That seams to be more than 65 pitches. Does anyone know how many he threw or what his new pitch limit is?
  2. Thats not correct at all. The reason Hardy is disappointing is because we have numerous high salary players who have played well below there WAR salary equivilent. Guys like Bush, Suppan, and Riske are below replacement level. If everyone played to there salary, we'd win 88 games this year. Obviously guys like Gallardo give us way more wins than there salary, that should make up for the injured players. War values also take into account the Marlins payroll. They don't pay anyone. The Brewers have an above average payroll.
  3. A very cheap gamble. Lopez isa only making $3.5 million this year. What kind of raise do you think an arbitrator would give him in the odd case of him accepting arby to be Weeks backup?
  4. Lopez is a couple of years younger than Orlando Hudson, and just as good. The Dodgers signed Hudson last year as a type A FA. Someone will want Lopez. He'd be a really good fit for the White Sox and Twins or the Dodgers again, as Hudson was only on a 1 year deal. If Lopez actually accepted arby, we could just play him in a corner OF spot, and have great insurance for Weeks.
  5. The problem I have with spending CAmeron's money on pitching is a $10 million pitcher will require a multi-year deal, possibly as long as 4 years. Thats incredibly risky. Cameron will likely be about 4 WAR, pitchers of that caliber get even more than $10 milliom. I would be OK with going with Gerut in RF and trading Hart for a pitcher.
  6. Along with those young pitchers TLB mentions, Baltimore also has promoted a few more pitching prospects from just outside of their top 10 this year who have had MLB success. Brad Bergeson and David Hernandez have been good. Bergeson has a great ERA, though there might be some luck involved there, Hernandez actually has the better stuff of the 2.
  7. This is a very intriguing idea Wierdos. With Harden's impending free agency, the Cubs could use an extra starter. I would think they would do just about anything at this point to get Bradley of the books. It makes sense for both teams, and Melvin isn't averse to that silliness that says you can't trade within your division. If a trade helps your club, how can you turn that down? I think Macha is OK with Bradley. He managed him parts of 2 years in Oakland, and I don't remember him having any major incidents their.
  8. I wonder if Burgos went through a dead arm period early on? He not only got pounded, but wasn't K'ing anyone either. Then over his last 6 outings his production and K totals made sudden jump. Over that period Burgos has a 2.70 ERA and a 5/29 BB/K ration in 26 2/3 innings. I was kind of suprised to see that let Heckathorn stretch out a little at 1st glance, but he was a horse in college for all 3 years, which makes him different that Arnett. It looks like Cutter Dykstra is finally showing signs of getting back to the player he was last year. Over his last 8 games he's hitting 478/520/783/1.303.
  9. The guy is a dominant closer, and it seems all rational thought goes out the window for FA closers. I not only think a team will want to sign Hoffman, but I also think he'll get a raise.
  10. We can trade guys like Hart or McGehee for pitching too. If we trade for young guys instead of established guys, we might hit on a guy on the rise. We have to copy deals like Edgar Rentaria for Jair Jurrjens or Matt Joyce for Edwin Jackson. A deal like either of those makes us dramitically better. The position players we have to offer are just as valuable, if not more, than those 2 position players were.
  11. Last offseason Type A FA's Orlando Cabrera and Orlando Hudson both signed 1 year deals. If a contender needs a closer, and theres a few that will, they'll sign him. He's had a great year. He's more valuable now that he's shown that his dominace isn't just the byproduct of a great pitchers park. Half the teams would only have to give up their 2nd round pick. Thats alot trickier since the Cliff Lee deal. They won't give up Kyle Drabeck in any deal. They have 2 other top prospect, but they're both OF's. The one that plays CF is too far away, he might be more interesting to us if he was MLB ready. Antonio Bastardo made a few MLB starts for them this year. He's young, deceptive lefty with a really good K rate. He'd interest me, but I'd need another prospect just as good to be interested in moving Hoffman. One thing we do know is that the Phillies closer need has reached desperation. I think they thought Lidge would turn things around, but he seems to just dig himself into the ground when things go bad, just like he did in Houston.
  12. I think with everything we've learned about Amaury Rivas in the last few weeks, we really need to re-evaluate how we view Rivas as a prospect. He belongs in the top 10. 3 dominant pitches, production, and bigtime workethic, I don't see anything else I need to be convinced he's a big timer.
  13. Your right, and no one is suggesting he would be. He could start in a corner OF spot, and would help improve our team OPS by playing there.
  14. Would it be so horrible if Lopez accepted Arby, and was moved to the OF, with Hart traded for pitching? I love having players on 1 year deals. Keep Lopez motivated for next year.
  15. You mean 0 more stolen bases. Morgans steals are wiped out by his 17 caught stealings. The break even rate for stolen bases is 70%. Thats Morgans success rate. He is 0 steals over break even. Morgan would have the same value as a player if he never attempted a steal. Morgan is a perfect example of why the equation that uses only OBA and Slugging%, can accurately equate a teams total Runs Scored, with out even needing to account for stolen bases.
  16. Yup, he was pitching just 50 pitches per game and still couldn't handle the workload. He's only pitched a full season once in the past 5 years, dating back to HS. I'd much rather have a great closer than see him blow out his arm in the minors stretching his pitch count.
  17. A player needs to steal 2 bases to make up for every caught stealing. Morgan, despite his awesome speed, has been caught stealing a whopping 17 times this year. Essentially, he has just 6 steals. It would be an absolute travesty to get caught stealing that often in front of Braun and Fielder.
  18. Why does it need to be a long term deal? Orlando Cabrera and Orlando Hudson both signed 1 year deals as type A FA's. The Dodgers gave up there 1st rounder for Hudson, and the A's gave up their 2nd for Cabrera. Lopez is similar to those guys.
  19. Its awesomely encouraging that the same people that called his change-up a "work in progress" now call it the best in the FSL.
  20. Ever since Toby started the Power 50, he has had defend himself from critism of not having relievers ranked high enough. Yet, not a single one of these relievers have made an MLB impact. He's been right, and will continue to be right. Most of the best MLB relievers were starters in the minors. I see alot of discussion that is based on a players age. In some cases age works well, as it helps compare players experience level. However, pitchers who miss significant time with injury should have an * by they're age. They're age is no longer an accurate barometer of they're experience level. Posters have touted Anundsen because he is younger than guys like Rivas and Rogers. However, age is a poor measuring device in this application. Anundsen has thrown more minor league innings than both of those 2. Rogers and Rivas may be 23, but they have the experience level of a 21 year old at best. I really believe Rogers is far and away our best pitching prospect right now. His stuff is off the charts. His control has been strong in the 2nd half of the season, it just gets better the more he pitches. He's dominating the FSL on the same level guys like Price, Kershaw, Volstad and Porcello did in recent years. With a strong AFL campaign he could land in BAs top 50. Remember, BA loved him before he threw strikes and cleaned up his mechanics. They'll really love him now. I think he's our # 4 prospect right now, and could make the leap to #1 next year. He could get MLB hitters out right now.
  21. The AFL is meant for American players, and recently, Canadians. International players only participate as injury replacements. I'm guessing Braddock will get closer duties, like Omar Agilera did last year. It would be good practice for him, as that will likely be his future role in Milwaukee.
  22. Not only will the Brewers offer Cameron arbitration, but they hope he accepts. Then he's a signed player with a 1 year contract. The risk of losing him is some team might offer him a 2 year deal. Hoffman is also a no-brainer to offer arbitration. If we we're willing to pay him this amount of money last year, whats changed? I'm far more confident in him for next year than I was in the offseason for this year. Detroit would be a team that would be more than willing to give up a pick to get him to close.
  23. Why would San Fran have any interest in Hardy when they already have Renteria under contract? Hart makes alot of sense for them.
  24. Why do I give a hoot what Bush's May ERA was? He was only league average in his best month, and worse than that in the other months. How is that average? I hope you realize that the league average stats also includes all the other pitchers who also pitched through a tough stretch because of injury. It all counts. That why we try to use the largest sample possible. Unfortunately for Bush, this is the 2nd time in 3 years he's had an ERA over 5, and in the other year he was only 1 WAR. I like the guy, great competitor, just wish he had the talent some of the other pitchers have. He deserves success more than many others.
  25. Why would you forfiet 4 wins just to save $10 million? We would need to be incredibly lucky to find a 4 WAR pitcher for 1/yr $10 million, and yet we wouldn't be any better.
