  1. If Davis or Hall doesn't get done, I could see the team poney up for Kyle Hansen. BA had him in their top 200, and I think he has more potential than the smallish Gennet.
  2. I can understand Arizona wanting to keep Davis because of the potential of a compensatory pick, but at the same time if they could save money and get an OK prospect, they should do it. One of the things I give Melvin big credit for is trading away the right prospects. The team needs to fiind a prospect the Arizona might like that the Brewers don't really believe in. Those are usually guys having a good year, but aren't really projectable. I hope this gets done, I don't want to see Mike Burns tomorrow.
  3. What a contradictory statement you made their. How was dealing Davis after his worst year trading him at peak value? It was just another example of Melvin not understanding pitcher production. It was the only season in Davis's career he didn;t cimpletely outperform his periferils, and that was simply because Melvin fielded a brutal defense team that year. Compounding the Davis deal was the idea of trading for a catcher who was consistently a terrible OBA guy, and known for attitude issues. If Brady Clark was bad, why did Melvin give him a multi year contract even though he wassn't eligable for free agency. Melvin consistently wiffed giving multi year deals to players we already had under control. We had to eat contracts for guys like Clark, Turnbow, and Hall. How was it a great trade? Koskie was coming off a bad year, was injury prone, and was just average for us. He wasn"t better than Branyan, had a higher salary, and we had to give up a prospect coming off a strong AFL stint. Wolfe has a 3.33 career ERA. Branyan was awesome late in the season when he got regular ABs, and put the Padres in the Playoffs. Bad, pointless trade. How can you say Melvin has done well when this years team sucks. Jack Z built the Brewers, and should have been promted to GM after 2007.
  4. The Twins refused to call up Francisco Liriano last year to delay his free agency, and he was actually pitching well. Hardy has hit like crap. He needs 3 weeks in AAA. I hope he gets red hot down there, and I hope they keep him there until the AAA season is over. Then I hope he comes up and finishes red hot here.
  5. Mark Rogers with another very strong night. 3 1/3 innings with 0 ER and 5 Ks. He allowed 3 hits, but all were groundballs as were 4 of the 5 outs in play against him. He He did allow an unearned run, but is was very unearned. Heres the inning: Raul Barron grounds out, first baseman Chris Errecart to pitcher Mark Rogers. Bradley McElroy singles on a ground ball to first baseman Chris Errecart. With John Tolisano batting, Bradley McElroy steals (9) 2nd base. John Tolisano reaches on a fielder's choice, fielded by shortstop Brent Brewer. Bradley McElroy advances to 3rd, on missed catch error by shortstop Brent Brewer. Moises Sierra strikes out swinging. Manuel Rodriguez reaches on fielding error by shortstop Brent Brewer. Bradley McElroy scores. John Tolisano to 2nd. With Matthew Liuzza batting, wild pitch by Mark Rogers, John Tolisano to 3rd. Manuel Rodriguez to 2nd. Matthew Liuzza walks. Jesus Gonzalez lines out to shortstop Brent Brewer. It sucks when bad defense extends his pitch count. 3 walks is a bit much, but 1 was issued after he had already earned 4 outs in the 3rd. He is just dominant right now. Hitters must take some very weak swings against him just trying to make contact, because he just doesn't give up extra base hits.
  6. Wow, thats really cool. I wonder if its tied to the idea of Escobar batting 9th? Melvin said during the game today to Bill and Brian that this was Macha's idea, which suprises and pleases. Of course its probably just because of his big day today. he's earned the right to play more.
  7. I think the most exciting ranking was Rivas with best change-up. Before the season he was billed as a good fastball/slider guy that might fit best as a reliever down the road. A vastly improved chage-up would explain is outstanding performance so far. His control could improve a little, but that is something that should just happen naturally as he gains experience. He's made as big of jump as any Brewers prospect this year. I think my MO is rather simple. If a player can't hit, it makes their speed inconsequential. He's Juan Pierre without the bat This isn't some young, inexperienced player. He's 23, he started for 3 years in college, and is now a 3rd year pro. Even guys that are late bloomers like Heether were way better hitters at this level.
  8. If McGehee's knee surgery goes smoothly, he'd be the one it would make the most sense to deal. It might be a major sell high situation. Gamel is the other middle of the order hitter we'll need after Fielder is gone. We have no other big time bats in the system.
  9. Davis would replace Mike Burns in the rotation. While the Brewers only have 1 starting pitching prospect in AA or AAA (Butler, and he coming off an injury), the team has as much or more pitching talent in R through A+ as anyone in baseball.
  10. Hall for Vicente Padilla would make sense, with us paying the difference in contracts. We'd essentially get Padilla for free, and pay less of hall contract next year. Padilla has an ERA under 4 on the road this year. He needs a change of scenary even worse than Hall. We almost traded Pods for him a few years ago until the White Sox had to dump salary and let us have Lee.
  11. Farris hasn't hit nearly as well as Iribarren did in the FSL, when Iribarren was a year younger. Iribarren isn't good enough with the bat. Farris had just a 792 OPS in Helena as a 21 year old. Dykstra, the guy everyone here likes to kick around, had a 805 OPS there last year right out of HS. Like I said, Farris might be useful as a PR for a contender in Septmember, but he is otherwise not a prospect.
  12. What really stinks about the whole thing is, the Brewers had a major interest in another small school fireballer, Brad Holt, but the Mets grabbed him up 1 pick ahead of where we got Frederickson. Holt is now in AA after dominating the FSL with 11.22K/9. Curse the bad luck.
  13. That is in no way part of the amateur scouting directors job. They do nothing with the players after there drafted. Both Z and Bruce Sied have mentioned this numerous times. Hardy was Z's very 1st 2nd round pick. While I agree that the team needs to trade guys at their peak, what would it matter if the pitching prospects they aquired turn out like Jose Cappelan, Zack Jackson, or J DLR.
  14. Nah, everyone loved Ron Wolf, because he produced instant results, and didn't have losing seasons. If Melvin wouldn't have made as many bad moves, we wouldn't be looking at another losing season from a Melvin team. Shouldn't you expect a winning team in year 7 of a rebiulding project? The Hardy situation is a perfect example of Melvins failures.
  15. The Brewers could easily keep Hardy in AAA for the remainder of Nashvilles season, which doesn't end until Septemember 7th this year, but Melvin won't have the stones to do it.
  16. Unfortunatly, the guy who could judge talent was Jack Z, and he got away. Melvin gets way too much credit for lucky waiver claims of mediocre players. Every team gets those. Melvin doesn't trade our players at their peak because he has no idea what their peak is.
  17. Except Melvin has already said he won't do that because he doesn't want to make anyone mad.
  18. Odorizzi and Peralta both sharp tonight. Can't say the same for Evan Frederickson. He seemed to have it turned around for a couple months, but his delivery got out of whack for awhile now, and they don't get it fixed. the results are what you'd expect from a pitcher flying that for open in his delivery.
  19. You guys are missing Melvins biggest move of absolute buffoonery. Giving Hardy the opening day SS job, coming off shoulder surgery, on a team competing for nothing, after SS Bill Hall had a monster ST and was clearly poised for a breakout year. Had he let Hardy play in AAA to open that season, which should have been a no-brainer considering he had only played 26 games their, We'd have him through 2011. That would have given us huge trade possibilities, with either Hardy or Escobar.
  20. The fact that Melvin has repeatedly picked the wrong managers and pitching coaches for the team, along with the fact that he has repeatedly choosen wrong on which players to give contract extensions to, speaks volumes of his inability as head decision maker.
  21. Macha is paid to win. Counsel is his best present SS. Of course Counsel is going to play. The dumb move isn't Macha playing Counsel at SS, its Melvin calling up a SS from AAA who clearly isn't ready to hit in the majors.
  22. Money is even worse than Macha. Bring in a good manager, not Money.
  23. Why couldn't he be called up midseason 2010? If Hardy gains a year of service time, does he have to be dalt this offseason without even knowing what the offers are yet? Or, couldn't Counsel just platoon with somebody at SS until Escobar hits a little better in AAA? What's so bad about a young player playing at AAA?
  24. Even with great defense, it would make him less valuable than Counsel playing SS over the next few weeks.
