  1. How will the Pirates be a .500 team next year? They didn't get big league talent, they didn't even get AAA guys. They will be awful next year. Could they start to get better in 3 years? Sure, depending on how many of these B list prospects turn out. I will agree though that Alderson is a very impressive pickup. I'd happily have given Lopez and a prospect for him.
  2. I didn't. You just posted stats without any league adjustment. Like I said, his minor league numbers are skewed by playing at San Antonio and Tacoma. Do some league adjustments already, and you'll realize Clement ain't much. Comparing Clements stats to Mauers is bogus too. Mauer was in the Bigs by the age Clement signed a pro contract. Mauer is just 4 months older than Clement.
  3. The obvious guy to sell would be Felipe Lopez. We never needed him in the 1st place. The Giants and Twins are after Freddy Sanchez. Lopez is just as good as him. I'll take an MLB ready reliever, no experience necessary.
  4. I don't know how this could be considered anything but a bad year for Salome. He's an offense 1st catcher with a pedestrian 730 OPS, and I doubt anyone wants a catcher made of glass. Injuries to minor league position players really has killed the Brewers ability to deal this year.
  5. Actually Snell went with Wilson to Seattle. Pittsburg actually got some decent talent in return.
  6. Abd BA had Brad Nelson as the top prospect in our system at one time too. However, neither one has been more than a pretty good AAA hitter. Pretty good doesn't get you a starting 1B job. Clement turns 25 in a few weeks. He's pretty close to maxxed out. He'll be nothing more than a back-up type like Robert Fick. The Brewers have quality starting position players, they need to concentrate their resources on pitching.
  7. Clement's minor league stats are inflated from playing at San Antonia and Tacoma. He's not a special hitter, and doesn't profile to have enough offense as a 1B. He's more of a Brad Nelson type. Thats why Seattle is willing to deal him even though they need hitters.
  8. Harangs decline has coincided with Dick Pole taking over as the Reds pitching coach. Pole is the guy that wouldn't let Todd Coffey throw his sinker. I wonder if they're limiting the use of Harang's sinker. The decline in Harang's ERA seems to be caused by a decrease in his GB%. He's someone the Brewers need to take a closer look at. Cole Gillespie would have been a good fit for the Reds, too bad he was dealt in an unnessecary move. I don't know who else we could send them that would be immediate help. Taylor Green would fit them well down the line.
  9. Players on the 40 man roster are not eligable to be PTBNL. However injured players can be traded with commissioners consent. I don't know if there's a recent precedent for this. At this point, the Brewers should pass on rentals. They should continue to search for pitchers who could help through next year, and Melvin needs to get something done. Memo to Doug: No more soft tossers!
  10. I think Rogers surving the jump to 70 pitches is a huge improvement. You can't get by gassing it out like a reliever through 70 pitches. I think the jump from 50 to 70 pitches is bigger than the jump from 70-90. At 90, you can work deep enough into games, especially when you dominate like Rogers. I wonder if Rogers will pitch in the AFL. If so, we might see him jumped to AA before August 1st, for eligibility. They did that last year with Periard and Jeffress.
  11. Feliz has lost some of the luster he suddenly found last year. Some now think he his stuff would be more effective in short spurts out of the pen.
  12. Another rumor I heard on a minor league broadcast was Toronto asking Texas for Dereck Holland, Justin Smoak, and Julio Borbon.
  13. No one will give a rats behind how many Rogers won in A+ when he dominating in the majors. If the doctors think this is the best approach, stick with it. The important thing is, Rogers has become consistent with his mechanics, his velocity has returned, He's immensely improving both his control and command, he's learned the art of pitching resulting in him getting loads of groundouts, and most importantly, he's healthy.
  14. What did I jinx? He's still doing what he's doing through 4. I doubt you can jinx a 97 MPH fastball.
  15. Mark Rogers is rolling again tonight. He just keeps getting sharper as the season rolls along. Its pretty amazing that he can do anything considering he missed almost 2 1/2 years.
  16. Seriously? Thats way short. Westmoreland is in rookie ball. That would be like us offering Gamel, Lawrie, and Odorrizzi, with nothing else. Thats no where near the package Texas got for Texeira.
  17. Doug Melvin has absolutely no ability to identify pitching, unless its someone like CC, where its obvious to everyone that he's awesome. We've had a grand total of 4 quality starters pitchers in Melvins entire tenure here. 2 came up through the system (Sheets, Gallardo), 1 was Davis, a lucky waiver pickup who Melvin then gave away for nothing, and CC. I don't know how I should have an once of confidence that Melvin can build a pitching staff. He's been here 7 years and this is what he has built so far. All of the pitching prospects he's aquired were total flops (Cappellan, J DLR, Zack Jackson), All his FA signings are flops. His big trade aquisition, Dave Bush, has an ERA over 5 for the 2nd time in 3 years. Melvin needs to trade for pitching, but unless its for a superstar, I have no confidence he will be able to identify someone that is actually good. In all likelyhood, based on his history, Melvin will aquire a soft tossing pitcher who had a good ERA season that was built on a lucky BAPIP and great defense behind him. The pitcher will come here, regress to his means, and we'll have nothing.
  18. I have a no trade clause.
  19. Not really. They just called up Michael Saunders. I was wondering when they'd finally do that. No matter, we're better off keeping Hart since we don't have a viable replacement. Washburn for prospects, keep it simple.
  20. Thats only fact if you use the archaic system Bud Selig used to judge market sizes, which was total population. Jump out of the 50s and try using demographics. We're in the upper half, and around 10th. our attendance is awesome and we're 3rd in TV ratings. We can maintain that if we continue to operate aggressively.
  21. It seems like just because TH mentioned Hardy and Escobar, everyone assumes we have to give up a SS to get Washburn. The M's are terrible in LF. Hart would be a fit for them. I also don't know how Morrow got his name thrown in here, if Washburn is dealt, they call up Morrow to take his place in the rotation. More likely, it will be a package of 3 non-elite prospects. Green makes sense for Seattle. Gillespie was always a Jack Z favorite, too bad we gave him up for a guy we didn't need just because Macha was too dumb to play Gamel. Washburn isn't a great pitcher, but he is great this year, and , likely by no coincidence, he was great in his last contract year too.
  22. What does that have to do with the Brewers? I doubt the cost would be Green. It would be a package similar to what we gave up for Durham.
  23. You mean he looks like everyone does in a slump. The concern thats he's lost it would be if he's lost batspeed. I don't see that, and no one has suggested it. To assume a good player who's slumping has completely lost it is usually a wrong assumption.
  24. Thats only true if you assume Hardy hits next year like he has so far this year, and thats a bold assumtion. This is his worst offensive year of his career. More likely, this is an outlier. If Hardy hits next year like he did last year, he'd be worth about $15 million more than Escobar.
  25. That does look like a good lineup, but thats in part because you included 4 OFs. Glaus has been playing LF in AAA during rehab. I don't think there confident he can still play 3B.
