  1. I think Melvin's issue that time was players were named in that deal, and he didn't like the fact that the players had to deal with the rumors. Reporting that they're working on something that may be close, without naming players at all, should almost be appreciated.
  2. Don't pretend like you don't know it gets tougher for pitchers the 2nd and 3rd time throught the order. As a starter, Jeffress is trying to command a 2-seamer so he can gets outs early in the count so he can last 6-7 innings in a game. As a reliever, he could just come in and blow 98 MPH 4-seamer past hitters once threw the order. Its much easier to control a 4-seamer than a 2-seamer. Now theres something we can agree on. I don't think theres an organization with better arms from Rookie ball through A+.
  3. Adam McCalvy with an update, and is doubtful about the rumors.
  4. First of all, he was always considered a top prospect by the Brewers. The Brewers have liked Butler since college, wanted to draft him in the 2nd round, traded for him, and promoted and kept him in AAA. He has much better stuff than numerous pitchers on peoples top 10 lists, and has performed very well this year. I'm guessing the bias against him is because people here loved Gabe Gross, the guy he was traded for. Butler has a very good chance to be a Brewers starter. He was meant to just make one AAA start to help out with a double header, and then go to AA. However, once Money and Bosio seen his stuff, they wouldn't let him leave. Hes been very good in AAA and is easily our most advanced pitching prospect. I wouldn't be too concerned about his stats last year, prospectum is just as much about stuff than stats. So he's lumped with older guys with lesser stuff? He has the raw stuff to succeed in the majors, why can't you see him sticking around? I think the Jeffress/Braddock comparisons are unfair. Let Jeffress come out of the pen and just blow it out for 2 innings and I'm guessing he'd have some amazing stats. Braddock hasn't even been stretched out yet. When/if he does, he will lose some of that fastball velocity. I agree he's a really exciting prospect, but its just an unfair comparison right now.
  5. Players on the 40 man roster are not eligible to be PTBNL. If, I mean when, the Brewers deal for a pitcher, it will be for minor leaguers. SD is a completely stats driven organization. In a deal with them, we be sending out youngsters with good stats that might not have the ability to translate their present success to the majors. SD is clueless, its why they're terrible in the majors and have a talentless minor league system.
  6. Yeah, thats really slanted coverage. It makes it seem like they have an axe to grind. Frederickson, since the beginning of May, has a 3.54 ERA with 30 Ks/14 BB in 28 innings. It would make more sense for them to point out that he's turning the corner. Describing him as a disappointment because he was a college pitcher is misleading because he doesn't have anywhere near the experience on the mound as most college pitchers, he was just a 1 year starter.
  7. The draft starts 11:00 AM Cental time today. Just think, the Brewers built the team they have despite having just 2 picks in the top 3 rounds 3 times in the last 9 years. This year we have 3 times that, and all have big upside.
  8. Something that might make Davis more signable is Tennessee is gutting there entire program and starting over after a terrible season. Another Vols draft eligible sophmore, Bryan Morgado, was said to be very signable because of this. No need, Prince had it done before his jr. season.
  9. Obviously, I'm esctatic with our 1st day. I truely believe Arnett is one of the top players in the entire draft. I also think Heckathorn, after some mechanical tweaks, has front of the rotation stuff. I wasn't familar with Prince, but he's exactly what I'd draw up for a SS draft pick. He has everything but power, and that could develop too. As for Davis, if the Brewers took a Boras guy, they must really love him. I hope Scott didn't lie to us, and will now screw us over. Hopefully Davis can get back to the form that starred for Team USA.
  10. For giving up LaPorta and Brantley in the Sebathia deal, the Brewers get comp picks they use to ironically pick a power hitting LF (Walla) and a LF/CF tweener (Davis).
  11. Cool, great to see him back. I'll have to get to one of his starts before he gets moved up.
  12. http://www.tulanegreenwave.com/sports/m-basebl/stats/2008-2009/teamcume.html Prince was an OBA machine this year with a .467, I'm suprised I never heard of him. He also had 48 steals, which is almost unheard of at the college level.
  13. With the next pick, I still like Von Rosenberg and Colvin if there signable, or college picks Dereck McCallum or Jeremy Hazelbaker.
  14. Myers to KC, they'll pony up for him, just like they did last year with Melville.
  15. That Walla workout is unreal. Exciting pick. The Davis pick shocked me. I wasn't even following him because he's a Boras guy. I should have paid attention to him though. The Brewers love bat speed, and he has a ton of it.
  16. Walla is somewhat unknown, but it seems that everyone who has seen him loves him. Garfield is a terrific defensive catcher. I don't like picking catchers high, but if we're going to pick one, I like the idea of getting a great defender.
  17. With Stock off the board, I'll have to change my prediction for 74. I'll stick with LSU signee Von Rosenberg at 73, and go with fellow LSU signee Brody Colvin at 74.
  18. Myers told teams today that he wants a huge bonus, one that is exorbitant for his talent, and I like him alot. He'll likely end up in college.
  19. This is pretty much it. The Brewers aren't afraid to adjust mechanics, I'm sure they'll work with him on getting better extension instead of short arming the ball. While Heckathorn pitched well, he should have absolutly dominated given his stuff, so that drove him down too. He's a risk, but one comfortable with at this point.
  20. Thanks for making me feel better about him. I reacting badly initally to the LaPorta pick too, but 15 minutes later, after it sunk in, I gave it rave reviews. The Brewers are awesome at drafting, I should just trust them.
  21. Wow, this is getting easy for me, I had Heckethorn here in my 6 picks thread. Heckethorn touches 99 as a starter, has big K totals, with few walks. He also induces alot of groundballs with his 2-seamer, though I think he throws it way too much. With Heckathorns 4-seamer, he should just throw that and his breaking ball, like Ben Sheets. He also has a good change-up.
  22. He was very good as a freshman, then he was the best hitter for Team USA over the summer, then had a dud of a sophmore year. Here comes Heckathorn or Kraus.
  23. We would still get a pick if Davis went unsigned, you only don't get a pick the next time around.
  24. yuck Fat, unproductive LFs don't interest me. He will be signed though, I'm sure the Brewers did their homework. Thanks for all the kind words about the Arnett selection. Obviously, I'm esctatic with his selection.
  25. See Patrick's and I's comments in the "Who's your pick" thread.
