  1. I'll give you Gio, but no way on Santanna. He's now ranked #26, and was traded with 4/5 of the minor league season over. He earned that ranking before the trade.
  2. And we wouldn't trade him for Bowden either. Bowden is a safe prospect, but has a limited ceiling. Top Prospect Carlos Santana was traded last year for Casey Blake. Top prospect Gio Gonzalez and 2 other were traded for Nick Swisher after a down year. Jose Tabata and Jeff Karstens plus 2 others for Xavier Nady and Damarso Marte. I'm starting to think I didn't ask for enough.
  3. The Sox want Hart to start in RF so Drew can DH more, and Hart would start every day versus LHP for one of Ortiz, Drew, or Ellsbury. Its fact that Epstien called the Brewers asking for Hart. Did you think they were expecting us to give away a former All-Star who had a 892 OPS in 2007 for nothing? Bowden is nice, but he's suplus for the Sox.
  4. Ya, and I'm waiting for someone to she me what year we're going to be suddenly shorthanded. Those who say we would be mortgaging our future haven't done their homework. Maybe, but Boston did call us in the middle of the season to ask about the availablity of our starting RF. Thats kind of bold in itself. I would think they were ready to make a legit offer. 2 minor leaguers for an average OFcontrolled through 2011 and a nice stopgap SS is a pretty good bargain for them.
  5. Your right, I meant JP Arencibia.
  6. Toronto is full in the OF/DH spots with Snider, Wells, Rios, and Lind. Toronto has a top catching prospect in Taylor Teagarden JP Arencibea, so they have no need for Salome. Getting Rolen is a massive addition in salary to the already massive addition that Halladay is. Thanks, I've spent days running this one through my head. I've projected salary and linups through 2013. I feel we're in great shape as an organization, and think we need to capitolize on our depth now, as winning helps fuel future payrolls. Edit; for accuracy
  7. I think we can make a very good offer without mortgaging our future if we get a little more creative. I understand the concern of many that trading Escobar leaves us without a SS in 2011. What if we get a SS prospect back in the deal? It makes sense to hang onto Hardy if we get Halladay, as he gives us the most Win Values this year and next year. Heres my proposal: Milwaukee trades: Cory Hart to Boston Alcides Escobar, Brett Lawrie, Taylor Green and Alex Periard to Toronto Milwaukee gets: Roy Halladay, SS Yamaica Navarro Boston trades: Michael Bowden to Toronto Yamaica Navarro to Milwaukee Boston gets: Cory Hart, Marcos Scaturo Toronto trades: Roy Halladay to Milwaukee Marcos Scaturo to Boston Toronto gets: Alcides Escobar, Michael Bowden, Brett Lawrie, Taylor Green, and Alex Periard As bobloblaw mentioned, Toronto loves Lawrie, and wanted to draft him at #17, but we picked 16. Getting Canadians Lawrie, Green, and Periard help ease the PR nightmare trading Halladay will be. The underated Green gives them a future replacement for Rolen. Escobar is the MLB ready SS they're searching for. Toronto wanted a package similar to the Texeiria haul. Those prospects entered the season ranked by BA as there teams #1, 2, 3, 14, and 18th prospects. This package entered this season ranked #1, 2, 3, 8, and 13th. Boston had interest in Hart this year, and they've offered Bowden in numerous deals, including straightup for pedestrian catcher Miguel Montero. Boston has awesome SS depth in the minors, with 4 SS ranked in their top 25, and not a big need for any of them with Lowrie at SS when healthy. Scaturo bridges the gap for them until then. Scaturo is no longer needed in Toronto with Escobar there. Milwaukee get Halladay, which is an almost unbelievable improvement over what the 5th starters nagative impact we've gotten this year. Navarro is ready for AA right now, he's just not there because of Boston SS logjam. He's their 10th rated prospect, and a perfect replacement for Hardy in 2011. The Brewers lineups can now be fully projected through to 2011 with considerable talent on offense, and well within budget. We would be a World Series favorite in 2009 and 2010, and a contender in 2011 if we develop pitching.
  8. You got that right. Seattle could use another OF. They're starting Ryan Langhans in LF. They need offense, there last in the AL in Runs Scored. The annoying thing about Seattle is they keep winning, staying on the fringe of the division race. However, a deal that helps them now, like getting Hart for LF, might coax them to give up Bedard. Garret Olsen held his own in Bedards absense.
  9. McGehee was a college OF. If he continues to hit, he could start next season in LF. Then, if injury induced a need at 2B or 3B, he could move in, and we'd only need to fing a replacement LF to fill the hole. If Gamel moved to the OF, that would be permanent, and we'd lose versatility.
  10. I'm suprised so many are anti-Vazquez. His value has been averaging about 5 wins a year, thats tremendous. Plus, he's signed through next year. Hart and a non-elite prospect makes alot of sense. Taylor Green would fit the Braves future needs real well.
  11. Nice night for Salome so far. A 2R homer, a walk, and throws out a basestealer. I'm sure theres plenty of scouts at the Brewers affiliates right now, so keep pumping that trade value Angel, and you'll find yourself in the majors by August.
  12. Hardy is worth 2 top prospects, so a deal that has him in is close to aquiring anyone. Halladay is awesome, no doubt, but who can make an offer better than Hardy and Hart? It would have to be a 3 team deal, as Toronto has no use for Hart, but those happen. Hart to Atlanta for Medlin and another prospect that Toronto likes, and we're getting closer.
  13. Wootens stuff could be considered similar to Rod Beck. Not much velocity, but is still able to sneak his fastball by hitters that are looking out for his splitter. Doesn't get hurt by hitters sitting in his fastball because of very good command.
  14. Because he stinks. His numbers are falling, as was easily predicted. They'll be bad in no time. Gerut's 865 OPS last year would have been 3rd best on the Brewers. He just needs some at-bats. The simple fact that he's not as good as Mike Cameron. Cameron has been 1.6 wins better, thats alot over a half season.
  15. I agree that he sounds very dedicated, hopefully he can find something to add some juice to his game. Cool to hear that his K totals have risen because he added a slider that is already real good. At this point he profiles very similar to Kirk Saarloos. Saarloos, when he was younger, was the rare mid 80 sinkerballer that also struck guys out. He had terrific results in the Minors, but was pounded as a MLB starter. He was a tollerable reliever, but then had some injury trouble.
  16. At this point the only thing left to do is deal Hall for another struggling player with a similar contract. Hope change of scenary can jumpstart the incoming player. Nate Robertson fits that scenario. Even if Robertson remains horrible, he's a LHRP thats no worse than Narveson, and the Brewers have a spot to call up Adam Heether, which would improve our bench. Who else has a horrible contract similar to Hall's? Theres a slew of guys that make $10 million a year that suck, but Hall is a little under that. theres also a bunch of guys that have horrible contracts that run through 2011, we want no part of that either.
  17. If there not going to start Gamel every day at 3B with McGehee every day at 2B, then Gamel should go down. Heether is the perfect call-up. McGehee can then play 3B fulltime instead of shuffling between positions, and Heether can platoon with Counsel. The 40 man roster is a non-issue, as theres plenty of riff-raf to caste off, including Narveson, Koshansky, and Nick Green. I could care less if Narveson is a lefty, that would only be useful if he could get people out. We have RHRP that can get lefties out better than Narveson. Another thing that should be explored is dealing Hall for a player with a similar contract who also desperately needs a change of scenary, like Nate Robertson. The Hall situation has died.
  18. For 2 reasons: 1. This statent isn't factually true. Re-check your stats and ages. 2. We're not comparing 22 year Hardy to 22 year old Escobar. Hardy was the most valuable player on the team last year. If we could call up the 26 year old version of Escobar, then count me in bigtime. Unfortunately, I don't have a time machine. Hardy will be significantly more valuable this year by the time the seasons over.
  19. A leadoff hitter is just a baseball player. Our Runs Scored will be based on our team OPS. Theres no adjustment factor for having a "leadoffman". If Counsel slumps, then McGehee can play everyday there, and Gamel can play everyday at 3B. One could make the argument that we should do that now. I'm not sure we should expect Counsel to completely tank, he did get on base well when he got regular playing time last year.
  20. Nobody matches up better with Seattle than the Brewers. I'm sure Jack Z sees value in numerous players we have earmarked as future starters. We need to use our minor league depth. I don't see a contender that can make a better offer than the Brewers. Boston could, maybe Tampa, but they aren't looking for a pitcher. Giving up on McClung after 2 starts would be about as smart as it would have been if we'd given up on Suppan after 2 starts at the beginning of this year.
  21. Not based on the way they played last year. This year, Fielder has been awesome at the plate, and defending much, much better. Hardy hasn't gotten hot yet, though it looks like its starting. Streakiness is not a weakness, as long as the end of year results are there. It all evens out over 162 games. The only players that aren't streaky are the awesome ones and the terrible ones.
  22. Look at his periferils. He's not as good as his ERA. He's no better than the guys we have. We're in 1st place, I don't think 2 more starts by Mike Burns is going to knock us out of contention. McClung only has 1 more start before the break. Bush will be back after the break. Now, if we were to get Davis now, and leave Bedard for the Cards, we would be in serious trouble.
  23. No he didn't, and both those guys were in the majors at the age Escobar is now. Ramirez had an 833 OPS in the majors as a 22 year old. Reyes had a higher OPS in the majors as a 20 year old than Escobar had in A+ at that age. Escobars present MLEs are under 700. He a good prospect. but not at the level of those guys, especially Ramirez. Reyes and Ramirez don't compare either. Yup. Fielder wasn't even valuable last year. Hardy had the highest win values on the team. Sheets was ahead of those other guys too.
  24. The Brewers have no use for Lopez whatsoever. We don't even have a roster spot for him. Adam Heether's MLEs are better than what Lopez does, and we don't even have room for him. Bush will be back in 2 weeks. The search for a pitcher who is a difference maker should continue. Don't settle for Doug Davis.
