  1. I would think Gamel will start tonight versus Lohse, Hall has a .067 average against him. Hall is in line to start tuesday through thursday anyway, with 2 lefties and Oswalt, who Hall owns is his career. Kramnoj, I think the ten day requirement you may be thinking of is a service time issue, it was talked about in another thread recently, but I can't remember the details.
  2. The 5 guys on my radar right now are: Eric Arnnet Tim Wheeler Jared Mitchell Everett Williams Brooks Raley
  3. Niether Dykstra, nor any other 19 year old, is going to be riding the same wave as Lawrie. Brett is a special talent that will blow past everyone his age. Value of a player isn't just derived by his need by his present organization, but by all teams. If Weeks is still here in 2012, then Lawrie will be playing a different position. I think the Brewers don't think Green has the agility for 2B. If Dykstra can't outhit Eric Farris, then Ive grossly overestimated him as a prospect. Dykstra outhit Farris in Helena despite being 3 years younger. Iribarren put up a 739 OPS in A ball as a 21 year old, I'm sure Dystra could beat that in 2 years. Dykstra should play the position that he has the best chance to be an above average defender, and I think thats 2B.
  4. 2006 was his most valuable season. He was good 2004-5 too. Don't forget he was sent to AAA last season after a horrid start, though that was more the falt of some tinkering suggested by Mike Maddox that caused that meltdown. Bush's poor 2007 can be partly blamed on the fact that those Brewers were an extremely poor defensive team. Bush himself has been very consistent.
  5. I highly doubt WV aligns themslves with just some hack, but they do choose their team doctors. The Braddock injury was a rather rare one. Its difficult to detect a nerve thats out of place, this is rarely something that gets found early, at least it hasn't been with the major league pitchers that have had the same procedure. The good news is it can be fixed, and it looks like its full steam ahead for Braddock. As TheCrew07 points out, the biggest obstacle is getting his innings built up. I'm guessing we'll see Zack in the AFL. The Brewers could send a very exciting group there this year.
  6. The Trainer was a Brewers employee, like I said, but was not retained. The team doctors are local, and still work with WV, but now with Pirates players. Good luck.
  7. I'm not excited about giving a pitcher an extension, especially one with no more ceiling for improvement. I'd concentrate on an extension for Weeks. I think we can find more Dave Bush's down the rode.
  8. Its awesome having Taylor Green back. Funny thing is, he seems way too good for A ball, but age wise he fits right into that league. While he not athletic, he has a quick bat. Brewers scouts have an unbelievable nose for batspeed. As for Braddock, while its true we've wasted some time with him pitching injured, the team has taken steps to prevent this from happening again. The trainer he had in West Virginia is no longer with the organization. In the minor leagues, each team has a local orthepedist it works with.. The Brewers are no longer is WV, and the 2 team doctors for the T-Rats have always worked with are highly, highly respected.
  9. Myself and TheCrew07 both were hoping Dykstra would open the season at 2B, but that was before Lawrie moved there. I'm still happy with the move. If you look at how few good 2B prospects there are in the minors, its shows what value Dykstra could have at the position. Theres a real shortage of guys with soft infield hands that still have pop in their bats.
  10. Team Canada, err, I mean , Wisconsin, is throwing on a route tonight. Taylor Green is pretending he never had a wrist injury, 3-3 with a HR and 4 RBI so far. Bowman with 5 shutout innings with 6 K.
  11. If I could make 1 rule change, its this: The home team is responsible to provide a venue to the each game, as scheduled, or forfeit.
  12. Mat received a standing ovation before his at-bat yesterday. It was pretty cool, Brewers fans sure know their baseball. Why would you think anyone would boo him TLB?
  13. Well it looks like I'll be checking my Blackberry on the bus ride down tomorrow to see if Mat gets the start. Tough 1st assignment against budding ace Josh Johnson.
  14. Defense is part of the equation, Hall is a much better defender and kills LHP, so Hall should start every game versus LHP.
  15. All we heard in spring training on this board was that the best players deserve to be on the team. Now people don't want Gamel to replace Nelson? Gamel makes us better. He can hit. He should be able to play LF just like Chris Cohgan is doing, or he plays 3B and Hall can be the top OF reserve. He should be the backup 1B. Theres lots of roles for him.
  16. Hall will always start versus LHSP, and thats when we would need a righthanded bat on the bench.
  17. Weeks with HR #9. Shoulda got that extension done this morning.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  18. Speculation is, he's up. Being discussed here. A huge congratulations to the Gamel family, I hope they're still reading. Mat could be a serious asset getting The Brewers into the playoffs, and maybe even the World Series.
  19. Geez dude, I never thought of that. Thats scary. Don't say that stuff out loud. Nah, nothing to worry about, our guys don't need extra help.
  20. Theres a difference between the 2, Gamel has 28 days of service time because he was up last September. Now you know why the Brewers were so cheesed about him hiding that elbow injury. Had they known he was nursing an injury, they wouldn't have brought him up. Now that might cost us millions, but thats in the past. I'm excited he's coming up, as we need another productive lefty stick. Notice that Florida is starting Chris Coglan in LF, he's a natural 3B who's never played the OF, and was just called up from AAA. Gamel can help us in alot of ways. We presently have the 3rd best record in the NL. We're a legit WS contender. Now lets finish the deal.
  21. They'll have to replace the guys that want to test free agency. Thats Hart, Hardy, Fielder. They will likely also replace Bush, and Hall. They will already have replaced Kendall, Suppan, and Cameron. Who's left to pay. Extending Weeks saves money in 2011, not increases it. Weeks salary won't increase the payroll with an extension untill 2012. That fits perfectly. Lets lock this guy up through his prime years. It could be a steal, and we would at least get our money's worth. Have you done a projected payroll for 2011. If you did I think you'd realize what great shape we're in going foward.
  22. Don't let his long minor league career fool you, he just started throwing the cutter in 2007, and has been awesome ever since. As JJHardy said, his cutter is nasty. I don't think righties will ever hit it. The bullpen is the only role for him, as I don't know if he could handle the physical demands of starting. He broke down a few times in AAA last year. He's this years Joe Nelson.
  23. Well Weeks has already bulked up, and his batspeed is still fine, and that was a major portion of what temporarily killed Hall. I doubt they're going to jump Weeks from position to position like they did with Hall, considering Weeks has been a defensive asset so far. His UZR/150 is +34. Then throw in the likelyhood that Hall will be worth more than his salary will pay him this year, and I don't see a problem. I think some are still operating under the idea that Wendy still runs this team, and we have a bottom feeder payroll. We have a healthy budget, but need to find a good way to spend it. Its either FA, or extend our own. Weeks is a good player, and potenially a great one. If he stays on his present pace, he's already a great one.
  24. True, but the if we wait fir him to continue to produce, that will drive his price up. An extension now won't be a bad deal if he turns out to be only a good player instead of a great one.
  25. Why replace good players? This team will have money to burn after Suppan is gone, how should we spend it? I think you'd agree FA is a route to avoid. Lawrie is a terriffic prospect. His bat will play at any position. Melvin was just quoted about him: "When Brett was drafted, he was drafted for his bat," Melvin said. "It wasn't firm where he was going to play, and [second base] might not be his last position, either. He's athletic enough to play a couple of positions." It seems odd Melvin would say that unless he ws already considering an extension for Weeks. Niether Hardy nor Hart are interested in extensions, and Weeks is more appealing to extend than Hart anyway. If Weeks were extended, we'd be able to move Lawrie and earmark him as a replacement at another position. That would create a trickle up effect and give us surplus talent for a mid-season deal for our only need shortterm and longterm, a stud pitcher. I think this shows what a bargain an extension to Weeks would be; Fangraphs has Weeks on pace to be worth $28 million this year! I still don't think he's maxxed out yet . Get it done Doug!
