  1. Count me in on Benintendi. Peterson's hot streak has kind of masked the need for another lefty bat, but with both Yelich and Tellez slumping, they could certainly use him, and there's certainly room for a lefty DH though they could go with Peterson there too. The offense from the OF needs to improve. Renfroe will help, but they could use more consistent production from the rest of the group. As for help in behind Taylor CF, anyone noticed that Albert Almora has seemed to be reborn in Cincy? His defense was never in question.
  2. I think Cain is toast. The article about his struggles in the Athletic a couple days ago signaled to me that he's resigned to it too. He basically admitted he can't seem to find his swing. Most athletes are very prideful. They don't want to embarrass themselves and that's exactly what he's doing.
  3. At this point I'd be fine with Mathias and Peterson rather than having to see Cain flail away. That AB leading off the 10th last night was an embarrassment. Just bunt the ball Zo. You can't hit it. DFA the guy already
  4. He has occasionally hit a ball decent but not consistently and this is a guy that hit 27 HR last year. His power has all but disappeared
  5. Milner has Counsell's confidence and rightfully so. His overall numbers last year don't look good but he takes the ball and trusts his stuff. They could do a lot worse. I'd give him a B. Taylor has driven in the exact same amount of runs as Renfroe in 40 or so fewer PA and Renfroe gets an A- and Taylor gets a C- because he's walked 5 fewer times than Renfroe? Both guys bat in RBI spots in the lineup. Their job is to drive in runs, not get on base for Cain.
  6. They have a doubleheader Monday in Chicago. Sunday's starter in St. Louis is TBA. I'll bet my lunch money that Small starts one of those games. They get an extra roster spot for Monday, so my guess he goes Monday so it may just be a one off, but if he performs well, he will likely be back up soon taking the role Ashby had as 6th starter/multiple inning reliever.

  8. Lindblom had chances as a major leaguer. He's a career minor leaguer in his 30's. Small is a first round draft pick who is clearly ready. He was a college pitcher who faced the toughest competition in college. His major league career was delayed by Covid. Why continue delaying it further. Besides he has options. Small is already 25. It's time.
  9. Cain should be released based on his lack of production. I think instead he'll be relegated to one or two starts per week. He's offering nothing offensively.
  10. Reds lineup isn't all that bad. Stephenson is arguably the best young offensive catcher in baseball. He's got a 3.4 WAR in his first 161 big league games. Pham, Moose, Naquin, Moran and Drury are proven major league bats. The Reds are 8-24 because their pitching staff has a 6.40 ERA and Votto is hitting .122
  11. Is he still a topnotch defensive CF or is he going on reputation? I saw him make two horrendous errors over the weekend and there's certainly nothing wrong with Taylor's defense in center field either. I would submit that Taylor covers as much ground as Cain these days and he's certainly an upgrade offensively. It's time to begin phasing out Cain, and while it might be premature to release him, certainly he's going to need to produce albeit in a lesser role as Taylor's backup. As far as going out of the organization, well the hottest bat right now in Nashville just happens to be centerfielder Jonathon Davis and while he's had considerable chances in the big leagues and failed as a hitter, as a short term backup option should they decide to move on completely from Cain, he could buy some time as a backup in CF along with a corner backup with some pop like a Dahl until the deadline. I don't see a need to go out and make a trade until then
  12. Offense would look even better if Cain wasn't in the lineup 2/3rds of the time. How much longer do you stick with a 36 year old who's posted an anemic .449 OPS batting against weak opposition? To make matters worse, he's throwing the ball to uncovered bases and kicking the ball around in the outfield. Two extra base hits in 70 plate appearances isn't getting it done. His 2022 salary is a sunk cost.
  13. He had a 20 game stretch from August 11, 2021 to September 1st where he hit .346/.391/.513. He hit safely in all 19 games he started in that stretch.
  14. Totally agree. Hiura just isn't getting enough AB's to keep any momentum he had in spring training and Brosseau has a career .849 OPS vs. LHP
  15. No offense to Pablo Reyes but isn't Mark Mathias really the utility man in waiting in Nashville?
  16. I assume Brosseau gets optioned to make room for Urias. Despite being able to keep 14 pitchers, I think the Brewers would be wise to keep 13 position players and 13 pitchers. I'd send down Ashby. He's allowed 12 hits and 8 walks for an unsightly WHIP of 1.765, and switching him between relieving and starting is tough. If you want to stick in a 6th starter you go with Urena for now or DFA Urena and bring up Small.
  17. I would send Cousins down because he would benefit the most with more regular work and his start to the season has been less than stellar. They really need him to be the guy he was last year, and with the short spring training and infrequent work so far, he needs time to get in his groove. Four wild pitches in 6 innings is unacceptable for a high leverage reliever and with Gott off to a good start, he's kind of taken over in the spot Cousins had.
  18. I look at Ethan Small's career stats and I just shake my head at the notion that many voters in the Brewer prospect poll had him between 7 and 11 on their prospect lists. He didn't pitch at all officially in 2020, but reports were he was very effective at the Brewer covid roster camp that year, and his career minor league stats are off the charts. When a guy like Small doesn't crack your top 5, either the system is loaded or he's being undervalued. It might be a little bit of both but I'd have him at a solid 3rd or 4th and certainly no lower than 5th. Maybe he doesn't project as a number one or two starter, but he's going to be a starter in the big leagues sooner rather than later and I think he'll be around for a long time.
  19. When you were at a game that Sorenson was pitching, you never had to worry about a 4 hour game. He did what pitchers today won't do. He actually threw most of his pitches in the strike zone. He didn't strike many out because he didn't try to. He got guys out without shifts too. He made the hitter hit his way on. When he was on, he had enough sink to keep the ball on the ground and he gave up singles, not doubles and home runs. Oh and if he got to 2 strikes which was rare, he still threw strikes instead of trying to get guys to swing at bad pitches. I miss that type of baseball. Games were much more fun to watch.

  23. Brewers are in need of a backup and he might be better right now than the candidates they have. I'd sink or swim with Feliciano. He's just a couple years away from being one of their top prospects. His 2020 and 2021 were lost years but here's an opportunity to put all that behind him. He wasn't bad in the AFL last fall either.
  24. Giving away Payton Henry for John Curtiss looks like a major blunder now doesn't it?
  25. He could be a younger version of Junior Guerra who was at times dominant out of the pen as a Brewer. Worth a shot.
