  1. I think Yoan Moncada might be available from the White Sox. They have Jake Burger in the wings and some questions in their rotation. Moncada wasn't bad this year but far from the dynamic player he was in 2019 and he's owed close to 60 million the next 3 years. Speaking of Vaughn, he'd be a nice get. So would Gavin Sheets if you could also get Burger.
  2. In my dreams, I'd deal Woodruff to Toronto for Teoscar Hernandez. You'd likely have to include Taylor in that deal.
  3. They lost this series in game 3 when Counsell took one of the top pitchers in baseball out after 4 shutout innings because he was so desperate to score a run or two in the middle innings. While it would have been nice, even a run or two there doesn't guarantee anything with their depleted bullpen. Even if Peralta allowed a run or two in the 5th and 6th and they lost game 3, saving arms in the pen would have accomplished something. With Lauer scheduled to go the next day, they needed Peralta to go at least 6 and have the bullpen fully functional for a possible elimination game. Ashby was simply not ready for the role Counsell put him in. Whether Suter could have done better is debatable but not having him AND Williams available was too much for the rest of the pen and for Counsell to play the short start strategy.
  4. I don't think they have much choice but to hope Yelich discovers something this winter and rebounds to some extent next year. I believe it all stems from the back issues which may have hindered his offseason workouts too. He had a good August and early September, so there's still a quality player in there somewhere. From Sept. 12 on he struggled again. Maybe playing every day there when he was hitting caught up to him.
  5. A big problem is the time between innings. I've seen where pitchers who are already in the game sit in the dugout for a couple minutes before they come out to warmup for the next inning. This happens all the time. This is especially true in the NL when umpires give them extra time if they were on base the prior inning. That extra time between innings easily adds a good 20 minutes. The answer might be the split screen where ads continue to run into the next inning for a minute or two while the game is going on. I think they should also ban teams from changing pitchers after the pitcher has warmed up for the inning but has yet to face anyone. Cardinals do this a lot. They wait for the opponent to announce a pinch hitter, then the manager walks out.
  6. Isn't Chris Taylor the perfect FA fit for the Brewers? Has never played 1B, but neither had Escobar. Can be moved almost anywhere when he's not playing there. Strikes out a ton but when has that bothered Stearns?
  7. Small finished with 77 innings. Ashby's currently at 94. I would assume the plan is for Ashby to throw something around the 120 that Lauer's on pace for this year. It would be ideal if Small could be in position to get close to that as well.
  8. I don't care how good his air bender is. He selfishly put himself above the team. I don't think he should ever wear a Brewer uniform again.
  9. I'm 69 years old. I've been frustrated and upset more times than I can count. I've never once punched a wall or a person. I had a roommate in college who was a nasty drunk. He punched the glass part of a door near the campus . Cut his hand badly. All his friends realized he had serious problems. Relationships were never the same. Rational people just don't do those things. He needs anger counseling before he should be allowed anywhere near the clubhouse. Maybe alcohol rehab too.
  10. And fined heavily. I'd look to trade him. That's indefensible.
  11. Oh it's close. Houser has a 1.80 ERA and a1.00 WHIP in September and he handcuffed the Cardinals in both starts against them allowing 1 earned run in 15 innings. He lost focus against the Cubs (but who wouldn't?). Burnes' September ERA is 2.42. Peralta dominated Tigers 3 starts ago and you can't rule him out but if he does start, he probably has the shortest leash. Woodruff's two starts prior to his latest gem against the red hot Cardinals weren't particularly sharp. But he's capable of dominating and he has the most postseason experience. Bottom line is they have 5 starters but will likely only use 4 and that could change series to series.
  12. ND struggled big time to beat an 0-3 Florida State team, then needed a late TD to beat a Toledo team that scored a whopping 6 points against Colorado State. Can't say their beating Purdue at home was all that impressive either. Wisconsin has by far the best defense and the best running game they have faced. They can keep the ball out of Coan's hands. Wisconsin's weakness is finishing off drives in the red zone. I see them overcoming that to an extent and prevailing 27-17.
  13. Lots of Brewer bats slumbering and lots of key guys out of the lineup. I get trying to insure their all healthy for October but guys need to pick it up and their facing two playoff teams down the stretch here and you want to play well against them to boost confidence.
  14. The other concern is if a new guy comes in and wants to put 'his guy' in as manager. I'd really hate to lose CC to politics. There's less of a chance of that happening than there is of the Brewers not winning the division this year. Exactly. Counsell is widely regarded in baseball as one of the top 3-4 managers in the game.
  15. Just don't trade the guys that you think will emerge as the best of the group. Cain will be gone after next season too. With the salary commitment to Yelich it would be wise to surround him with affordable talent and maybe spend on corner infielders.
  16. Trouble with the new 28 man roster rule is that in the past after a team celebrates winning a division, it sits every regular the next day. They don't have that luxury this year and with much of the lineup nursing injuries, is a concern for this team
  17. I think Scherzer's performance Sunday might have locked it down. Sure he'll take votes from Buehler and Buehler will take some from him but voters in the East are more familiar with him. He's now leading the NL in ERA and WHIP and just slightly behind Burnes in K's per 9. Burnes needs Scherzer to have a couple rough starts and then he might squeeze in. Wheeler's innings are truly impressive and that does count for something but he might need the Phillies to make the playoffs.
  18. The Cubs tv booth has played musical chairs now that they have Boog Sciambi. They have a revolving door mix of national voices and Pat Hughes coming over from radio. This musical chairs in the booths has become a national trend more so with announcers not travelling for the most part. I don't like Lepay for baseball (I wish I had a nickel for every time he brings up Johnny Bench. We get it Matt you grew up a Reds fan in Ohio) Coshun isn't great but he's familiar and he knows the team and the game. I wish they'd just stick with him as regular backup though the radio guys are fine too. There's plenty of guys available for pre and post game. I think BA stays because he likes living in the area enough, and Brewers have been very generous in allowing him extended periods off. He's probably off as much or more than any "regular" play by play guy in the business. So much so that when he returns after an absence it really takes him a series or two to re-acquaint himself with what's been going on. Heck Adames had been here like 6 weeks before Anderson did a game with him and he sounded like he had just discovered what we already knew. Hopefully a normal NBA season that wraps up in June next year will spare us from some of Lepay.
  19. I am willing to pull this trigger, as long as we get the haul. I think Burnes, Peralta, Lauer, Houser, Ashby would still be a top starting rotation in 2022 with Small/Lindblom/Bettinger/Hardy as emergency starters and the next man in. Plus you can probably include an almost MLB ready pitcher in the trade if you have concerns. After Small, I'd put File next in line. But if you trade Woodruff, you will likely get a starter who's close to the major leagues as part of the deal. Maybe not a top 75 type prospect but certainly a guy who projects as a 4-5th starter perhaps as soon as mid 2022. Woodruff should have tons of value given record, age and control not to mention durability.
  20. I wonder if they also had the 1951 Dodgers at 100% too. 1951 Dodgers were up 5.5 with 22 games remaining on September 6th. Brewers are currently 11 up with 24 games remaining. 1951 Giants (105 wRC+ | 88 ERA-) also appear to have been a better team than the 2021 Reds (102 wRC+ | 103 ERA-). Playoff Odds obviously didn't really exist in 1951, but if they did I don't think they would have had the Dodgers at 100% on September 6th. The collapse by the Phillies in 1964 was even more pronounced. They were up by 6 1/2 with just 12 to play. I was in 7th grade at the time and we used to get weekly news pamphlets. I'll never forget in late September there was one article that was titled "Teenager in World Series", and a story about Rick Wise who was up with the Phils as an 18 year old (he turned 19 on September 13, 1964). So whoever edited that newsletter, had Phillies at 100%. Wise finally made it to the World Series in 1975 with the Red Sox. But he was hardly a teenager by then.
  21. Assuming Taylor is healthy, I'd leave JBJ off the playoff roster and give his spot to Vogelbach. They need quality bench bats more than a 5th outfielder, even one who's a defensive whiz. Besides Peterson can play both corner OF spots. Against a RH starter, they could have 4 quality bats off the bench, Urias and Taylor or Cain from the right side, and Peterson and Vogey from the left side.
  22. Where are all those that were ready to release big Dan? Gotta have for the universal DH for 2022! Dan's the man for that role.
  23. Yeah. Dustin Peterson's more deserving of a 40 man spot too.
  24. Jorge Soler is another guy who might be a good fit, especially if the NL adopts the DH.
  25. Canha is an interesting and very realistic option. He'll be 33 in February and won't be expensive, but for that reason Oakland may be able to hold on to him. Between him and Taylor assuming some improvement from Taylor, they might be able to match Garcia/Taylor combo with the added benefit he can spell Tellez vs. LHP.
