  1. Not thrilled with the deal, but Armstrong looks like a keeper and a guy that will fill in nicely when a reliever is traded. Armstrong's K rate in minors are off the charts.
  2. No less than they liked say Perez when they picked up Hill to play 3B in the winter. Norris has been a regular in the big leagues and he's available at a discount. You don't pass that up to make room for career minor leaguers even ones with hot bats. If they like Pinto or Piña they can deal Maldonado in the winter.
  3. They got no major league talent back for Lucroy. They should have the pieces for a great buy low candidate in Norris. I suggest Aaron Wilkerson would be a good fit. They'd essentially have swapped one buy low guy in Hill for 3 years of another in a current position of need. Norris has 20-25 HR potential in Miller Park which would elevate his trade value significantly by two years from now.
  4. Absolutely and it shouldn't be close. Cashner's a rental who hasn't been performing anywhere near as well. Guerra could be an inexpensive fixture in a rotation for 3-4 years even if he regresses some. An argument could be made Guerra is worth as much or more than Lucroy as a trade chip. A 31 year old controllable pre-arby quality starting pitcher vs. a year and two months of a 30 year old catcher? Only risk is that he's a "flash in the pan" who won't be able to sustain it, but his stuff says otherwise as does what he's done to get to this point. Brewers don't "have" to deal him now either unlike with Lucroy who'd still have value this winter and next July but less than now in all probability.
  5. My asking price would be very high. He's been pitching like an ace, will be cheap for several years and is a young 31. They need a haul.
  6. By the way, Khris Davis in the last calendar year:. 46 HR 112 RBI. Old time stats to be sure, but impressive nonetheless. Certainly worth more than the return Brewers got.
  7. Let's say all the offers out there fall short. What if Stearns countered by saying he'll take a lighter offer if that team also took Garza off the Brewers hands?
  8. Nice win for the JV team! How about those rookie starters? Both deserve ROY of the year votes behind the obvious leading candidate Corey Seager.
  9. Perez with a bomb. Hernan has truly been one of the better developments of the season. Not that everyone is surprised though!
  10. Khris Davis now with 25 HR and 67 RBI with over 2 months left. Last night he homered and doubled off of Yu Darvish. Explain to me again why they couldn't use his talents while the rebuilding was going on? I said it last winter. Davis is one of the premier power bats in all of baseball. He should have commanded a lot more than they got back for him.
  11. You guys pay way too much attention to those lists. Only value I see in them is who's rising year to year. May I remind you Lucroy was never on one and neither were many everyday players and most guys on those lists never have any impact in the major leagues? Khris Davis has 85 home runs in his first 1381 major league at bats (1 HR every 16.2 ABs) and never appeared on a top 100 list either. Is a guy at 80 any better than a guy who would be at 120? Probably not.
  12. Ha ha! That's comical. So, the Tigers (who have one of the worst farm systems in baseball) wouldn't have to give up any of their Top 6 prospects according to MLB.com (of which, none are even in the Top 100) in a deal for Lucroy. Once again, these opposing fans are being absolutely delusional. Honestly, The Tigers could offer up their Top 5 prospects for Lucroy and I'm not sure if I'd even be satisfied with that deal? Moya was #100 on mlb.com prior to 2015, and based on his year at AAA: .289/.317/.545, that's not too far off. My initial post has his wrong age though. He's nearly 25. Still he fills a Brewer need in corner OF. I have a hard time believing Alexander won't be in their top 3 or 4 after the year he's having at Lakeland too (2.27 ERA, 1.038 WHIP, and 5.27 K/BB ratio). I'm sure Detroit would love to keep Luc out of Cleveland and that may be the impetus for their interest. But the more teams bidding the better the package ends up being.
  13. Somebody on a Tiger site made this proposal for Lucroy AND Smith James McCann Tyler Alexander Steven Moya Austin Kubitza Jaire Labourt Kubitza and Labourt are both struggling in A ball so of very little value. McCann is controllable and wasn't bad last year but I'd rather have d'Arnoud if I'm wanting a replacement for Lucroy in the deal. McCann looks like a marginal starter at best going forward. Moya's a nice power bat that's major league ready, but has defensive issues (who doesn't on the Brewers?). He just turned 23, so that's a plus also. He's also cut his strikeout rate down considerably in AAA this year. Alexander is a lefty starter drafted in 2nd round in 2015 out of TCU and is putting up nice numbers as a 21 year old in high A ball and definitely a prospect. No way that package gets them Lucroy and Smith in my opinion. McCann, Alexander and Moya for Lucroy alone? At least worth discussion.
  14. Have to wonder if he took off on his own on the play Gennett got doubled off too. I doubt they put on a double steal down 5-0 with 2 on and Braun up. Selfish players are losing players. I'd shop him.
  15. I actually saw Porter play many times. He and I graduated from high school the same year. He was indeed very talented but I don't think he was ready for success at such a young age. In the early 70's kids 18-20 weren't nearly as ready as they are now. There was no cable television, internet, cell phones, or even VCRs. They weren't travelling the country playing AAU/traveling teams/All Star teams by the time they were 14 or 15. I'm guessing Porter was a multi sport athlete in high school. Porter did fine under Del Crandall's guidance. After all Crandall was one of the best catchers of his day, and a quiet fatherly type. But when Crandall was replaced by Alex Grammas (who came from the Reds), I'm sure Grammas thought he should be more like Johnny Bench and nobody was quite like Bench. Porter's 1976 season was abysmal. It appeared he had wasted his enormous talent.
  16. Though he played other positions and his career was cut short, I'd put Dave Nilsson right up there certainly as the best offensive catcher the Brewers ever had. His last season, he caught over 100 games and posted a .954 OPS.
  17. Playing poorly because he's disappointed with his assignment? That's not the kind of reaction you like to see.
  18. Likely he's "another wasted first round pick" as is Roache who was taken one spot below Coulter. Coulter's soon to be 23 and in his 5th pro year. He's more suspect than prospect at this point regardless of position. Both Couldter and Roache will be a minor league free agents in a couple of years unless they work their way onto the 40 man roster or get taken in the Rule 5 draft neither of which seems likely at this point. Brewers might have been able to spare us this rebuild had they hit on those two picks, but clearly they did not. By the way, Stephen Piscotty was taken 8 spots later, and Joey Gallo 12 spots later, right behind Mitch Haniger. At least Haniger eventually helped them end up with Davies.
  19. Melvin said that about Podsednik but actually Wren's been a better hitter. Podsednik was career .265/344/.348 in the minors. Wren is .299/.365/.379. Pretty similar type players though, with the speed to play CF adequately but not premier defenders there. Podsednik was 2nd in ROY voting at 27. Wren is 25. He definitely needs to given a look. Coming from a baseball family, he's got to have a good understanding of the game as well.
  20. He's never going to be a .350 OBP guy though he's already doubled his walk total from last year in nearly 100 fewer PA. While he's versatile, he's really a plus defender at 3B (had Counsell moved him there Sunday, they probably win that game), and if he can hit .280/.315/.400 and his power continues to develop, he might be a reasonable 2-3 year option at 3B. There was an AB he had last week that I though was significant. With two out and a runner at 2B, he fouled off ball 4, then singled in the runner on the next pitch which was right down the middle. That was a spot where taking a walk wasn't going to get the job done. That's a great mentality for a hitter down in the 7th spot in the order. He also wasted no time when Villar was on 3B Sunday lifting a pitch early in the count for a sac fly, no small feat with this team. Later on they walked him in that situation and that run never scored.
  21. Cooper to Skysox too! I'm looking for him to hit around .330 there.
  22. As long as Middlebrooks is out, Perez will be at 3B full time and with it looking like Santana is done, they need to look at Wren who is younger than Broxton.
  23. Right. It's hard to imagine there is anyone out there willing to add him to their 25 man roster. He might fit as a 25th man somewhere but most teams like a guy who has options filling that spot. Even if he's lost, is that a big deal? No, it isn't. Whatever team would get him likely would just expose him to waivers later on. 257 plate appearances is a pretty substantial trial and numbers like .211/.291/.260 won't create much excitement.
  24. Torres has modest value in the market. Boyer has minimal value. Torres is perfectly suited as 6th inning guy and a big plus is how well he's pitched lately in fairly high leverage situations. It's quite possible that Torres will be dealt this week either in a bigger deal or alone. He should bring back a prospect with some upside that Brewer scouts like but not in anyone's top 20. Boyer is the type that teams pick up later in August usually for cash considerations or minimal return as a guy who'll soak up some innings in lopsided games.
  25. Wren was acquired by Melvin and never played in Houston organization. Broxton was acquired by Stearns. Stearns has blinders on. Now I'm not saying other GM's don't want to make themselves look good too, but knowing when you made a mistake is the sign of an exceptional GM.
