  1. If Guerra is still dealing, Davies continues on and Hader lives up to his promise, the pitching could be a strength. Any number of guys figure in the discussion for the remaining spots.
  2. I had Lucroy, Torres, and Jeffress, so didn't miss by much. Torres still looks like a logical guy to go in August along with Nieuwenhuis and maybe Boyer.
  3. You missed Jon Perrin who's been pretty solid despite his 2-7 record. Bubba Derby is having a tough year to say the least. Can't see him in the top group.
  4. It's discouraging that Nottingham doesn't seem to figure in. Nottingham cost them the prime years of a guy who has 46 HR and 111 RBI in the last calendar year. That was a major whiff by the boy genius. Susac's a decent option. He should hit better in the NL Central. Don't see a future All Star but adequate. The next 2 months might be the most important of Maldonado's career. He's been too streaky offensively in the past. Lets see how he does.
  5. The timing of this is mostly PR, coming on the heels of the trading of a very popular player, and the surrendering of two quality bullpen arms. Lets face it, competing in the coming weeks with this club against the loaded Cubs could get ugly. I'm sure management wanted fans at least getting a glimpse of what it hopes will be a cornerstone player. I would be shocked if Hader is not up here to start one game of the doubleheader in Chicago, and then pitch out of the pen or take the occasional start.
  6. I see the 2018 rotation as: Davies Hader Guerra Woodruff Wilkerson/Wang Waiting in the wings will be Ortiz, Bickford, and a host of others.
  7. Not every good player takes a lot of walks. Perez is a run producer not a table setter though he's more than doubled his walk rate over last year. He's walked 4 times in the last 2 weeks. That part of his game will improve. He's got one RBI every 5.57 AB. Braun has one every 7.04 AB. Carter has one every 5.92 AB.
  8. I'm guessing Perez is the regular RF for now, and that if he ever gets healthy Santana is going to have to win that job back. Wouldn't shock me to see Villar traded in the offseason either.
  9. No. I would be willing to eat some salary to get better prospects though. Obviously it's not my money though. If Braun stays reasonably healthy, they will have had the benefit of 15 years of a guy who if not for PEDs is a Hall of Famer. That outweighs any return they'd get by dealing him. So he retires as a Brewer? When he does, that will free up a lot of salary. Kemp comparison is laughable. Kemp's been a slightly below average OF 3 of the last 4 seasons.
  10. Will probably try and get Nieuwenhuis through waivers and deal him.
  11. Guessing Perez goes to RF?
  12. Torres and Knebel look like the setup men now with Thornburg as closer. Blazek becomes the 6th inning guy? Hopefully Barnes won't be out long.
  13. It would be nice to get a youngish lefty reliever as the 3rd piece. Brewers pen is decimated. Have to believe both Kirkman and Magnifico are on their way to SD.
  14. Agree. I'm not sold on Gallo, so Brinson and Ortiz are great pieces but with Jeffress in the deal there needs to at least one quality minor league bullpen arm in the deal.
  15. Then they need to get new scouts. Acquiring anyone because you think your coaches are smarter than another team's is a mistake that's fairly common.
  16. To play next year? Don't think it points to a Lucroy trade today 100%. Yeah if the deal's not there today, one will be in December. No certainty that Maldonado is around in 2017 either.
  17. Nice return for Smith! Never guess they'd get a top of the line arm like Bickford, who's putting up numbers worthy of a first round pick. Susac looked great in 2014. If he can get back to that level, he's a keeper. At worst, he's a quality backup. Doesn't ensure Lucroy gets dealt today, gives them some alternatives whether it's today or December.
  18. Adelberto Mejia anyone? Daniel Slania? Giants are team still looking for bullpen help. Slania does have Notre Dame background.
  19. I can't imagine the Brewers re-engaging with the Mets unless they've thrown Smith into the mix who would seem to me a much better fit than Herrera or even Rosario. Not that I wouldn't want Rosario most of all but Mets would have be nuts not to offer Smith before him.
  20. I liked the Cleveland package a lot more than a free swinging guy like Gallo and some B level prospects. Talk that the Brewers would have to include one of their relievers just to get Gallo in the deal is nuts. Mejia is a guy much in the mold of Wilson Contreras and would have eventually filled a key position on the field. Yes the prospects were at a lower level but at Mejia looks like a fast riser.
  21. Look, it isn't the end of the world if Lucroy is a Brewer tomorrow. Lowering your price or including your best starting pitcher who happens to be making major league minimum is the panic move. I still think plan B is trading Braun this winter, then extending Lucroy.
  22. Norris is having a bad year and still has 12 HR with more than 50 games left playing for SD. He's a 20-25 HR guy playing half his games in Miller Park and he's still just 27. Nothing against Pina and Pinto, but Pina's 29 and Pinto is same age as Norris, and neither has established themselves as major league catchers.
  23. I'm still leery that Gallo is ever going to make enough contact to be any better than a Chris Carter type, so his name doesn't excite me. Brewers also appear to have found their 3B right on their own roster so Gallo would have to play OF or 1B. I keep hoping that Mets will relent and substitute Dominic Smith for Nimmo in their offer. I'm on that one in a heartbeat.
  24. A lot on here scoffed when I was touting Perez last year and argued that he's going to hit for power eventually. Perez is a talent and he's only 25 and controllable through 2020.
  25. I think that's correct. Cleveland has committed money to Gomes through 2019. They aren't going to pay two guys who play the same position after this year and Gomes trade value is minimal. That wouldn't be an issue with a bigger market as neither is getting a ton, but Cleveland needs that money elsewhere. Lucroy was almost certain to be dealt again this winter. Lucroy obviously wants to go to a place that will make him a nice extension offer.
