  1. He's been awful for a while. It's long overdue.
  2. We can only hope Wilkerson was limited to 62 pitches because they want him strong in his next start wearing a Brewer uniform.
  3. You summed it up nicely Robert. Not only is Davies ticked off, other guys take notice. They know Davies has performed to a level that deserves better.
  4. I'm not sure Villar is a winning type player. He has plenty of ability but seems more interested in his stats than he does playing smart baseball. Then there's the timing of his errors. Seems he's made most of them in high leverage situations. At some point I would look to move him. Not this year but when his value is high.
  5. Amen to that . Respect the players who are performing on the field at a high level. Davies is. When you don't, it's noticed by everyone else. Stearns was never a player. In this case he needs to understand how players think.
  6. "They've played the waiting game on Hill, Lucroy and others -- I imagine it will continue with Garza as well". We've endured more than a season of horrific pitching by Garza, who's been arguably the worst starting pitcher in baseball since the start of 2015 that still has a rotation spot. Hill and Lucroy have no worse than serviceable. Even if they hold on to Lucroy until his contract runs out, he's certainly worthy of a qualifying offer which brings back a high pick. Hoping Garza will get better is simply foolish. Even if he does show some marginal improvement, that's not going to wipe out the past 30 starts, so his value would be minimal at best even in that scenario.
  7. Sounds plausible. We should call that strategy "k-rodding." It benefitted Hill greatly being a Brewer and showing he can still play everyday. Now he'll be a platoon/bench guy for a playoff contender so he'll need to establish his credentials as every day player again next year and what better place?
  8. Isn't there even more reason to dump Garza now with Wilkerson also a very viable option? Doesn't Anderson have an option left as well?
  9. Cecchini is less deserving than Pinto or Wren. Rivera, like Wilkins, only makes sense because they have options.
  10. There's "working within the system" and there is being fair to players performing at a high level. Gomez was a Boras client when he signed a very team friendly deal with the Brewers. Any chance Davies will? Less likely now perhaps. Making a player (Wilkins) and his agent who has no business in the major leagues happy accomplishes what exactly?
  11. I don't side with Boras in very many instances but I do in this case. How many other teams have done this with one of their starters over the last 10 years? Has it happened one time? It's bush league by the Brewers. You pay Cappy 1 mil+ and your concerned about $24,000...yea yea it's about the extra bat not the money...the extra bat is hitting .238 at Colorado Springs, not very good for a hitters ballpark, should of brought up Manny Pina and pulled Wilkins off 40 man...plus they knew they were going to move Hill. They should of brought Wilkins in after trade and left Davies on roster. He can pinch run better than Wilkins anyway. It has absolutely nothing to do with money and everything to do with getting an extra bench player and getting Davies a regular start that he would miss on the big league team. And it has happened, often. While not common it's not usual for guys to be sent down around the all star break to keep getting playing time. The only thing I will give Boras credit for is speaking up for someone who is really a nobody among his clientele. Although he probably had some intern or low level assistant inform him of it happening. You can bet Boras heard from Davies who is not happy with the move either. My guess is Davies thinks he should be starting Sunday on his regular rest too. Only reason he's not is Brewers are trying to manage his innings.
  12. Take Boras out of it. Any agent would be unhappy with this type of move. You think Davies is happy about it and didn't complain to Boras? If it comes to the point where the Brewers would think about extending Davies, players and their agents remember this kind of stuff and it leaves a bad taste. It's one thing if this team were contending and the guy being brought up actually were a prospect and could help, but Wilkins? Please. Stearns might be a smart guy, but this shows he lacks people skills.
  13. Everyone had Hill on their list didn't they? Was there ever a more obvious trade candidate? I'd sign him again this winter and take my chances he'll bring more return in 2017.
  14. I liked the Hill acquisition when it was made. Heck, there's nothing stopping the Brewers from making Hill a low end FA acquisition in the winter and doing this again next year. Hill appreciated the opportunity to play regularly. As for the return. Wilkerson just turned 27 last month. Like Guerra, he doesn't have a ton of mileage on his arm. Hard to argue with his minor league numbers. Only wish they'd just dump Garza now rather than later and give this guy an opportunity in 2016. I also wouldn't mind seeing Brewers claim Ryan LaMarre who the Sox designated. LaMarr's a CF with some pop from the right side who's stolen as many as 55 bases in his career. In short, a better version of Broxton who's a year older.
  15. Not a good negotiating tactic. You don't put 3 names out there. You'll be lowballed every time. You let them call you first with an offer for the guy they really need. If it's close to what you want in return, you counter-offer. Otherwise, you simply hang up.
  16. This just in: Matt Garza is the same guy he was in 2015. He's simply awful. Since the beginning of 2015, he's logged 174 2/3 innings and allowed 213 hits. The Brewers are 10-20 in games he's started in that period. On what planet does that justify continuing to run him out there every 5th day? Trade value??? Please. I doubt any team would sign him for major league minimum if he's released. I'd rather see Hiram Burgos take the ball for major league minimum than watch one more inning of Matt Garza. Burgos could not be worse.
  17. Oh but at least they can all throw! Just couldn't afford to have a 40 HR guy in the lineup who's arm cost them maybe a half dozen runs a year.
  18. He should have been cut after last year. There's no recovering trade value. The money's spent.
  19. Why not skip Anderson's start, pitch Guerra Saturday and let Davies pitch on Sunday on his regular turn? Wilkins doesn't belong on the 40 man, much less the active roster when there are better AAA options: Wren and Pinto to name 2. Wilkins' road splits: .170/.267/.376 Wren's road splits: .353/.371/.471 Pinto's road splits: .323/.362/.415 Who says this team isn't tanking intentionally?
  20. Extremely unlikely that the Tribe deals Clevinger, let alone for Aaron Hill. If you said Will Smith and another prospect for Clevinger and another piece , I could see the start of an interesting conversation... How about Adam Plutko for Hill/Torres? Plutko's been terrific in 2015 and 2016.
  21. Rasmus was dealt because he didn't adhere to the Cardinal Way. Garza still has negative trade value. Nothing he's done in his few starts has changed that. Adding him to a package of Hill and Torres would diminish the return. The real opportunity for a significant return would be package that paired Hill and Jeffress if you can find a partner that needs infield and bullpen help. BTW, Hill has been increasing his value daily, much the way Parra did last year.
  22. Even though Yan Gomes isn't hitting, he's signed through 2019 and is handling the best rotation in the AL so I'm not sure if they'll want to mess that up even for a big offensive upgrade. Hill would seem to be an upgrade over Uribe who's been struggling. I could see Hill/Jeffress bringing back a decent return.
  23. Guerra's 31 but he doesn't have the tread on the tires of most guys 27-28 with about 800 pro innings total. It can also be argued he's still learning his craft. Could this really be a guy that can produce around a 3.00 ERA (or less) for the next several years? Nobody really knows, but with the cost of top quality starting pitching, the Brewers need to take what is a minimal risk and hold on to him rather than take what his perceived value might be after a dozen starts.
  24. I am sure that's exactly right It doesn't matter where in your rebuild a team is, if a team stumbles on enough quality on the rotation, you become instant contenders. He found one in Guerra. So GM's are always on the lookout for those guys regardless of the long term plan.
