  1. Difference is his arm is not the same. Sad to say but think his future is not a very bright one. He has always had a home run issue in the bigs due to him missing spots a lot and not having much life on fastball. His off speed is not nearly as effective and is reliant on him throwing hard. He has a big looping curve and a slow curve that use to have hitters off balance cause he could throw 93-96 now he struggled to stay in low 90s At the end of 2013, he was effective starting with a dialed down fastball (92-94), and effective change and breaking pitch. When he got put in pen to start 2014 he just rared back and threw high heat. If he can ever get back to the guy he was two years ago and command all his pitches, he can win. At this point ABL, anybody but Lohse.
  2. He's like me. Management isn't interested in putting a decent show on for fans, why should he?
  3. He'll be 31 when his contract runs out, and unless he has a major comeback with the bat, I don't see him getting a deal that would break the bank. Will come down to if he wants to stay. Brewers will probably be willing to extend him through 2020 when the timing is right.
  4. He's having a horrible offensive year. There's no sugar coating it. Now's the time to take advantage of it and extend him for a more reasonable amount.
  5. Valencia is the perfect type of low cost veteran they should look at to fill out their roster and rid themselves of career minor league guys like Herrera and Hector Gomez. There's no reason to not at least try to put a decent lineup on the field as they await the arrival of the heralded young players. Perez needs to get an opportunity but there's no reason not to fit a vet in there too. Valencia can play some 3B, platoon some at 2B and 1B.
  6. Should be traded? No. Could be traded? Yes. All depends on when and if they decide they need to open up LF for a young player. August and September is big for his value. My guess on when he'll be traded? Next July or the following winter.
  7. I think the best way to read this is that they're not getting fair value offers due to his recent back flare-up and think there may be more of a market for him in November/December. You don't trade Gomez and Fiers and then say you're keeping Lind to play him in 2016 when you've clearly punted on 2016 already.... You still have to sell tickets, and therefore put a major league team on the field even if it's one that doesn't appear to be a contender. Stranger things have happened. The payroll has been cut significantly. I expect them not only to keep Lind but also add a lower end FA veteran or two, not so much to contend but to prevent a deep slide to utter oblivion and have some talent around the young guys as they start coming up. Lind's option is fairly modest, and the system is now pretty well stocked. If Lind has a start like this year, he'll have value at next year's deadline. We'll see a better major league roster to start next season than they are able to put out now and they can do it without sacrificing any gems in their system. They owe that much to the fans who buy tickets.
  8. The "arms market" is going to be very strong this winter. That will leave numerous options available to fill out a rotation fairly cheaply without rushing up guys and perhaps getting a guy that can be flipped a year from now. Kind of scares me though that Lohse might have a wink-wink agreement for a minor league deal with Brewers next spring and that's why they haven't cut the cord.
  9. Are the Orioles being realistic? I mean they trail Yankees by 6 games and Toronto has added Price and Tulo. Their playoff hopes are alive certainly but longshot wild card at best. Parra would be a nice addition, but enough to overcome that? Or are they just trying to placate a fan base that saw Toronto being the aggressor?
  10. Certainly not before Lind is dealt. If it's in the offseason, I could see Bruan getting time there in Arizona and potentially opening up there next year or the Brewers grabbing a low end FA lefty bat to platoon there with Rogers, then filling in his spot in the OF with a low end flip-able FA. The real transition to the young players isn't going to be opening day 2016. Get ready to see a few low end veteran FA added this winter to delay the start of the Arcia/Phillips era at least until next year's trading deadline.
  11. Though he could be aggravating at times, Gomez is one of my all time favorites as well. I will never forget the day he had a "walk off" stolen base to beat the D-Backs. It was the same day the Brewer employee tragically died in the bullpen earlier. As for the trade, eh, it's one that will take 2-3 years to evaluate. I have a sneaking suspicion the arms they got back will be not unlike the ones Melvin's swung and missed on many times before. Phillips has All Star potential for sure, but potential is the key word. Going to be very hard to get excited to watch this team now. Glad football season is starting.
  12. I have mixed emotions. Not sure if anyone else going to offer a pitcher of Wheeler's pedigree in a deal for Gomez. Mets' pitching depth, need for a bat and the fact that Wheeler is rehabbing was the perfect storm. My problem with the deal was Flores. I would have preferred an OF prospect plus another arm.
  13. Phillies got quite the haul. Three top 100 prospects including two top 50 in Thompson, Alfaro and Williams, all at AA, with Alfaro the oldest having just turned 22 and a couple other AAA pitchers that probably are better than what the Phillies had.
  14. It's a long way until the 2016 opener much less the 2017 season. Nobody knows what the roster will look like in either year. The plan appears to be to take your chances with an up and coming controllable rotation. If they are good enough to contend now is that really a bad thing? They have plenty of room financially to fill in around their young players already here with some vets that can be flipped in a year or two anyway.
  15. They lack LH bats and Gennett is more accomplished than Perez so I'd guess Flores takes over at 3B, not 2B, with Perez relegated back to RH platoon at 2B. Hector Gomez figures to be DFA'd.
  16. You do realize that lineup you listed has zero LH bats? Which is why Gennett's not going anywhere and Flores will land most likely at 3B. They'll add at least a couple low end flippable FA vets for the OF, guys like David Murphy and a guy that can play CF plus a 1B if they don't hang on to Lind. Lind is flippable next year so he may stay.
  17. Davis actually covers a lot of ground in LF. Well more than average and Braun has decent range side to side though not so much going back or coming in on balls, so they aren't that bad off.
  18. Assuming the return is Wheeler and Flores, and not some hot shot 19 year old in A ball, that indicates to me they aren't tossing in the towel for 2016 even given that Wheeler may not be back until June. But they have a lot of work to do to fortify the middle of their lineup, assuming Parra and perhaps Lind are elsewhere. Would they use the money saved on Gomez to extend Parra? Keeping Lind?
  19. I want Segura off of SS and off the team period. He is not good anywhere on the diamond. Don't shoot the messenger. Just speculating what they might do, not advocating it.
  20. I'm thinking they try moving one of the infield glut to the CF to fill that hole. Segura perhaps?
  21. Yup. The heart and soul of the team. I'll miss him. Carlos was worth the price of admission no doubt. Not always good, but always exciting.
  22. Wheeler has walked nearly 4 batters per 9 innings and that was before TJ surgery. That's my biggest issue.
  23. Yup, Melvin blinked. Not enough
