  1. Pujols left as a FA, saving the Cardinals oh, about $250 million. Cardinals didn't trade him with more than 2 years remaining his contract for prospects either. They got all they could out of him. Lucroy still has 2 1/2 years of control left at ridiculously low salary. Their rotation is trending young, and having a veteran catcher is valuable.
  2. If O'Conner looked like he would live up to his prior ratings, why would the Rays need Lucroy that bad? Snell would be great, but none of the catchers in that proposal could fill Lucroy's shoes.
  3. Most of what I'm reading down here in Chicago is that the Cubs are much more likely to add a guy like Matt Latos or Dan Haren. Arrieta is performing like an ace and they are already paying Lester a boatload. Schwarber is untouchable. He's the hottest thing in Chicago right now. Cub fans would riot in the street if he were dealt for Hamels.
  4. If you are disappointed in what the Brewers got back for Ramirez, then get ready to be even more disappointed when the bigger chips start falling and the return ends up considerably less than 2 of a team's top 3 prospects which I sense is what some expect for Gomez, Segura or Lind. I'm very happy that they were able to parlay this little hot streak from Ramirez into any value at all plus we get the added benefit of seeing what Perez can do full time at 3B for an extra week.
  5. I think it's odd too. Something on the trade front must be going on with Fiers. That's the only rationale for not having released Lohse yet. Very disturbing to think we'll be subjected to more Lohse starts but they still are clinging to the idea that a couple decent starts and they can make a waiver deal in August.
  6. Dealing away a guy who's about 65 games from retirement hardly is a rebuild move. It saves a few bucks and gives a chance for a good look at Perez to see if he's a decent option there. Chances are Perez will put up better overall numbers than Ramirez will in Pittsburgh. Nobody's going to give anything for Lohse.
  7. His hot month meant he could be traded at all. Prior to that you were looking at a Lohse situation where he'd either be released or relegated to bench duty. From the Brewer perspective, they should save some money, and open up a spot for Perez who's looked very good at the plate. Barrios did put up good numbers at AA earlier. Was the closer for Altoona and he's only 23. Adds another live bullpen arm to the system.
  8. Salary relief is the biggest thing. To get anything of value back in a player, Brewers would have to pay some of that remaining contract.
  9. Hernan Perez deserves first shot based on a .840 OPS as a Brewers. Would expect Herrera to fill his spot as utility player.
  10. Exactly. The KRod treatment. Parra wouldn't come with any draft pick compensation either so that's a thought.
  11. Like Colorado Springs, numbers at SLC need to be taken with huge grain of salt of which there's a lake full.
  12. I like Gausman as the centerpiece. Kind of surprised to read the O's are willing to part with him. Gausman would make dealing Fiers thinkable too. A 2016 rotation of Nelson, Peralta, Jungmann, Gausman, and Garza or Fiers could be a competitive rotation. But with a gutted lineup, would it be a waste? Which is why if Gomez is dealt for a nice return, I'd think twice about dealing Lind and even Parra who might be amenable to a contract or worthy of a QO. The offers for Lind and Parra need to be substantial too. Just dumping them for B level guys who might strengthen your farm system a bit but don't have impact potential, seems like a wheel spinning strategy.
  13. Peralta got a total of 7 runs of support in his 5 losses. Starters are so much more valuable than relievers. "I would DFA Broxton, not Lohse right now", Again a bad idea. Broxton's FIP is 3.64. He has a strikeout per inning and a 4-1 K to walk ratio. In short his ERA is not reflective of how he's throwing. He's not allowed a run in 5 straight appearances. There's not much trade value right now but as a waiver deal in late August if he continues to put up zeroes? That's a lot more likely than running Lohse out there.
  14. When Lohse is cut loose, he won't be DFA'd. He'll just be put on release waivers, or put another way, unconditionally released. You DFA guys you think you could still trade or who you might want to accept a minor league assignment. Neither would apply in Lohse's case. The sooner some team takes a flier on him for minimum wage, the sooner the Brewers get back at least a minimal amount of salary. DFA process takes 10 days.
  15. I want Lohse in the rotation for the whole year if he is not going to be traded. I would rather have a better draft pick plus some of the younger pitchers should be getting close on their innings limit for this year. Jungmann, Cravy, and others should be getting close to their shut down numbers by next month. Ah no. Just bring up Thornburg or Burgos and have them make a couple September starts if you are worried about innings limits. My gosh Jungmann is 25 not 22 and logged 153 innings last year. He can go 180 easy. As for tanking for higher draft pick, then are you going to lower ticket prices or keep charging full prices?
  16. Trey Mancini would be a nice piece to include. Wish he were lefty but seems like an accomplished 1B bat regardless. Plus has the Notre Dame connection so I'm guessing Counsell has some awareness of him.
  17. For those of you scoring at home, that was $1,137,931.03 per win it cost the Brewers to sign Lohse.
  18. Thus hopefully ends the Brewer career of one Kyle Lohse who joins a long list of FA vet signings that ended up on scrap heap: Jeff Suppan, Braden Looper, Doug Davis, Randy Wolf, Kyle Lohse Don't let the door hit you on the way out Kyle.
  19. That ship sailed long ago. Two wild card teams in a one game playoff isn't gimmicky? Teams loaded up with two month rentals from other organizations isn't gimmicky? You ever see a key player from a team out of it in the NFL end up playing for a contender in December? The point is the Brewer season basically ended in April once management leaked that it was ready to be sellers. Fans that paid hundreds of if not thousands of dollars expecting to see Carlos Gomez for a full season instead might have to watch Logan Schafer for more than a third of it in CF. That's a fraud. Injuries are one thing. Having a team dismantled with a third of the season remaining is simply not good for the game. Yes it's gimmicky and yes it's an idea with roots in the minor leagues, but the current system of the haves loading up from the have-nots in a given season makes the game a farce.
  20. If MLB season were divided up into two 81 game halves, the current standings in the NL Central would be: Brewers 9-4 Pirates 7-5 Cubs 6-5 Cards 6-6 Reds 4-6 We would also not be looking at the prospect of this current Brewer team being completely dismantled because they played awful baseball the first 20 games of the season or teams in contention loading up on rental players making matchups between the "loaded up teams" and the deadline sellers over the final two months complete mismatches. How is that good for the game? Why should I pay major league prices to see the Colorado Springs lineup against Jon Lester for instance? That's a reason I never would buy a season ticket package and why I think those who do are fools. Granted the Cardinals would have already won a first round playoff spot, so if they won the second half, why not give them a bye into the second round? With potentially 12 teams (2 from each division) making the playoffs, give byes to the teams with the top 4 overall records or less than 4 if some teams win both halves and let the other 8 play there way into the quarterfinals. Now this doesn't preclude teams from rebuilding by dealing off players nearing the end of deals but they'd be much more inclined to do it in the offseason, again keeping interest in the game year round. Ask yourself, would this current Brewer hot streak have you jacked up for the last couple months of the year instead of worrying about winning "too many"? I hated the 2 half idea back in 1981, but with the way the game is now, I think it's time.
  21. Safe bet his stats would be much worse with the Brewers. The Rangers changed the way he pitched. The Brewers would have kept him doing the same ole stuff. Add that to the fact we would be selling 3 months of Gallardo with no QO chance the return probably would be worse. I'd make that same trade looking back. "with no QO chance"?? Had they dealt Lohse instead, and kept Gallardo, they might be close enough to keep him the entire year and then they'd certainly give him a QO after the kind of season he's having now. Not sure it's a safe bet he would be worse with the Brewers. He's not facing pitchers in Texas.
  22. If any scout saw last night's game he might want to think again about Segura only having played well in early 2013. All his talents were on display. Beat out infield hits, homered, stole a base, doubled up runners with laser throws to first. It's about time to stop the talk that he's only had one stretch of good play in early 2013. He's been pretty solid this year.
  23. Lets let it play out. There's a number of guys that could be moved of course but I doubt all the names that have been mentioned will be elsewhere on August 1. I'm guessing no more than two deals total, likely involving 2-4 current Brewer players. I'm sensing they are looking for young controllable players in return that are AA or above to fill in around current core in 2016-17. Know that will disappoint those looking for some 18 or 19 year old with big upside. They have some those now and will draft more next year.
