  1. They've got the right Gabe in there today!
  2. endaround has a point. The strike zone extended a foot off the plate. Nevertheless, this team has to start hitting.
  3. I drifted over the Cubs/Phillies telecast last night. In talking about Jenkins, Len Kasper said he talked to Jenkins. The first thing Jenkins said to him: "How's the Brew Crew looking?" Jenkins was a Brewer, is a Brewer, and will always be a Brewer no matter what uniform he's wearing. To boo him is to boo yourself. I'll be willing to bet that Jenkins ends his career someday in a Brewer uniform too.
  4. As I said before, I don't really care what he or any Brewer eats as long as they produce on the field. I do though have a problem with a guy who's supposed to be the team leader spending time on game days promoting a lifestyle. If he wants to do that in November after the World Series, more power to him.
  5. Can you trace all the meat you eat back to the source where it was raised? If you can't, then you have no idea what they're putting in those animals. With vegetables, there's a lot less "moving parts". I thought politics was off the table on this board Brian. Ever hear of the FDA? That statement is clearly political. How about all the hard working Americans employed in this country in the meat industry?
  6. 10 minutes? Isn't tomorrow's game an afternoon game after a night game? He should be resting not talking to media types.
  7. Whom he has to hire, pay, and consult with. I'd rather he consult with Skaalen.
  8. Two years ago for health reasons, I made a minor change in my diet. It was something I was conscious of virtually every waking hour for months. Sure he can find ways to make up for the protein, but that requires a lot of effort and planning that isn't being put into his job. That he's going to be on Good Morning America discussing his diet is disturbing. I'd rather him spend more time in the batting cage. I also don't believe a meatless diet is in any way necessarily healthier than a balanced diet that includes low fat meats.
  9. I'm just glad Bill Hall is still eating meat. I'm not so concerned about the diet per se, bu I'm worried more that instead of focusing on getting ready for this season, his focus was elsewhere. Does he not know where the covers of baseballs come from or what his mitt is made of?
  10. "We are tied for 3rd most runs in the NL" We won't be for long if Fielder and Braun keep going 0 for 8 and the team stays on the bottom in walks drawn.
  11. "Gabe Gross becomes extremely valuable to have around." He's Jay Gibbons without the steroids. Gibbons was released by the O's this spring who ate over $11 million. "leads the Brewers in above average plays" Does being the tallest midget make you tall? He also leads the Brewers in hilariously funny bad defensive plays. "he hit .270/.361/.464 vs. righthanders the last 3 seasons" But only .244/.328/.459 last year. I'd take Matt Stairs anyday.
  12. rluzinski, What big picture are you looking at? Gross is a lifetime .242 hitter. .404 slugger, who can't play defense. At least Kapler can play defense.
  13. Totally agree. It's one thing to make errors, it's another to play like your half asleep. Last nights lollygaggers were Fielder, Hart, and Braun.
  14. I think having Gross in CF negatively affects the whole OF. Who coaches these guys Sedar? First Hart lollygags and doesn't get in postition to make a decent throw, then a few innings later Braun lets a guy tag and move to second doing the same thing. Brutal. Bush deserved a lot better. As for Gross, he was retired 3 times on a total of 3 pitches and let a ball bounce off his glove for a HR. He should not be used as anything other than a PH.
  15. I hope Iribarren can play CF better than Gross. The move makes sense to me. Why play with 24 guys? Iribarren's on the 40 man already. As for making room for Gallardo, after his sterling outing last night, is there any question that McClung will be gone shortly?
  16. It's tough to predict. I used to think they'd just dump Kapler but now I don't think so. This is what I think will happen. They will try to keep Dillon and Gwynn sharp by rotating them every 3 weeks or so between Nashville and Milwaukee. I'm not sure who goes down first, but whoever does, it will be just temporary. As for Gallardo, I don't think it's an accident that Gallardo is starting at Nashville on the same day Bush is starting in Milwaukee. Unless Parra struggles his next 2 starts, I think they are commited to him in the rotation. The move will be either waive McClung, hope he clears and assign him to Nashville, trade Turnbow, or option Bush. If either of the first 2 happens, Bush goes to pen. Of course if Parra does struggle while Bush shines, Parra will be optioned for the time being.
  17. He looked good but let's not hand him the Cy Young award just yet. The Brewers have 3 pretty good young pitchers too. I can understand the Reds fans excitement though. How many guys have they plugged into their rotation over the past 5-6 years that have been just awful? It goes to show that it never pays to take another teams futility as a given. Things change year to year, month to month. That's why I'm so pleased the Brewers didn't stay with the status quo in their rotation.
  18. That HR is an out in 80% of the parks in baseball, and it only tied the game, the same as the one Fukudome hit only tied that game. I'll take my chances in extra innings with the Brewer offense and the added bullpen depth.
  19. And Mike Rivera is now batting .750! Combined the Brewer catchers are hitting .565. Quite a far cry from that 2004 duo of Moeller and Bennett.
  20. The Brewers got McClung last year for Grant Balfour. I don't think he's done anything since then to raise his value. Gwynn has to play more to establish his value. Right now, I think they might be more valuable to the Brewers than they are as trade bait. Personally, I think Gross and Turnbow would be dealt before either Gwynn or McClung. To answer Gopher, they kept McClung over Vargas, because Vargas wasn't needed (he lost his rotation spot last August, not this spring) and they could save almost $3 million of his salary by dumping when they did instead of waiting until Gallardo returned. That doesn't mean they'll keep McClung past the time when Gallardo returns either. I don't think it's impossible to get a 27 year old with a career ERA of over 6 through waivers so they could assign him to Nashville. He thows hard. So does Grant Balfour, and the Rays got him through waivers this spring. Throwing hard is just one aspect of pitching.
  21. I totally agree. Tampa Bay, a team with far less revenue than the Brewers, did essentially this several years ago with Carl Crawford and not only did they keep a premier player at a below market rate through most of his prime years, it also made him much more attractive as a trade target because more teams could afford to get in the bidding. Braun is no fluke. Talent like that doesn't come around that often.
  22. Not really.
  23. It was the Brewers that declined Jenkins' option. He handled it like the pro he is, with class. The few boobirds will be drowned out by those cheers from fans who appreciated his putting it on the line for a decade as a Brewer.
  24. Bucs fighting back have sent Lilly to showers in the 4th. It's now 7-5. That's 2 games in a row that Cub number 2 starter has failed to go 5.
  25. The thing about Kendall is that except for 80 games last year with Oakland, he's been a really, really good hitting catcher. And for most of his career he's been fine defensively too. He took a lot of criticism because the Pirates gave him a contract that was tough to live up to and which became a burden and because he'd didn't have big time power. But you can't blame him for that. Melvin deserves credit for this signing. He looked beyond his pedestrian 2007 and saw a guy who can provide this offense with more ability to score runs without the HR. And he got him at a discounted rate for two years. It could turn out to be the best sign in Melvin's tenure.
