"Really don't understand the move now...he was always bad." So because he should have been let go months ago, they shouldn't now? Spurling since All Star break: 12 2/3 IP, 20 Hits, 15 Runs (not counting inherited runners scoring), 12 ER, 2 HR, 4 BB, 7K, 8.53 ERA. The only recent game he did pitch a scoreless inning vs. the Astros, he allowed a walk, a hit, and a 420 foot out to Jason Lane, a .170 hitter. As for Yost being handicapped by "just" 12 pitchers, come on. Parra will probably go into the rotation, and Capuano will go to the pen. Having Capuano in the pen who's innings aren't so closely monitored and who can go multiple innings relieves the pressure more than having a guy(Spurling) who just adds gas to the fire. At the very least now when a lefthanded bat is needed to hit late in a one run game, we won't see Craig Counsell trot to the plate.
