  1. brewcrew00, I couldn't agree with you more. This team has had two guys who were hitting and Yost sits one in the middle of a pennant race. Why should anyone have faith that this guy is going to lead any team into a postseason? You think the players on this team aren't thinking the same thing we are too?
  2. This just in, veteran well above .500 manager Lou Piniella is not resting Soriano, Ramirez or Lee. Veteran well below .500 manager Ned Yost is resting Ryan Braun, JJ Hardy, and Corey Hart.
  3. Yost has lost his mind. His lineup shuffles make less and less sense daily. Lou Piniella does not sit Ramirez, Soriano, or Lee. Ever (unless forced to by injury or suspension).
  4. I wonder what if any other teams Melvin offered that package to. Does anyone think the Reds would have turned him down for Weathers?
  5. What bothers me about Linebrink is that the Padres are right in the middle of the race and they don't seem to think he's worth keeping around. It also bothers me that we gave up Inman. Now the Brewer system is pretty devoid of right handed pitching prospects. Plus of all the many lefthanders, Garrison may be near the top.
  6. He now has 232: 210 AB's, 17 BB, 3 SF, 2 HBP. If he plays everyday, he should average about 4.5 per game giving him 511. He's now 21st in HR, and 55th in RBI also.
  7. Remember Sheets could be gone after next season. So it's possible he could be the one that is dealt.
  8. What's all the concern about a guy changing positions in the middle of a pennant race? Haven't we seen Tony Graffanino in LF recently and he's had less experience out there than Tex?
  9. Belisle at home is 1-5, 5.96. On the road he's 4-1, 4.45. Let's make him feel right at home.
  10. I think a trade is the most likely way they will fill that spot and Jenkins could go in a package deal with a starting pitcher for an OF. I don't see them throwing a long deal at a guy like Byrnes who wants 5 years. If they went the FA route, I'd look for them to pursue guys like Dye or perhaps a Shannon Stewart who's been having a bit of comeback year. Neither of those guys can command anything long term.
  11. I was just trying to use last night as an example of how Yost misuses players in general and Estrada in particular. It certainly goes beyond that one game.
  12. Yost defended Estrada this morning by saying he's had some tightness in his legs lately, and that he was going as fast as he could which isn't very fast. Which begs the obvious question: The two hardest guys to double up on the entire team (Gwynn and Weeks) were sitting in the dougout. Why not use either of them in that situation? Yes they strike out a lot more than Estrada, but Weathers isn't a huge strikeout guy.
  13. Heck why not explore the Teixeira situtation. At least he's started games in the OF in his career.
  14. "The cleanup hitter leads off more often.." Which wouldn't be as often with a high OBP guy in front of him would it? Call me old school, but isn't the job of the cleanup hitter to cleanup, not set the table?
  15. Both the Brewers and the Cubs have 3 games vs. Astros in this period so should be a wash as far as division goes but Astros have lots of games with WC contenders Padres/Dodgers and so might have slight negative effect on Brewers postseason chances.
  16. How does highest OBP scream cleanup? Especially when the problem isn't who is batting 3rd or 4th, but 1st, 2nd, and 5th right now. Braun is the best hitter on the team right now. He's where he belongs. I can't say the same for Hardy though who needs to be dropped.
  17. Three Mariner starters with 10+ starts: Weaver: 2-8; 6.19 Baek: 3-3; 5.74 Ramirez: 5-3; 6.75 And you guys tell me they couldn't use a Capuano or a Bush with the market for starting pitching being what it is? Yes maybe the Brewers would have to include a sweetener but they do need starting pitching. The Mariners have two outstanding OF prospects, Adam Jones, a 22 year old who has 24 HR and 81 RBI to go along with a .318 BA at AAA and Wladimir Balentin, 23, who has 21 HR and 70 RBI and a .310 BA also at AAA so they are pretty well covered to replace Ibanez and Guillen (if he opts out of his contract). I don't see them replacing Sexson at 1B until his contract runs out after next season. Broussard is a proven solid DH and 1B option as well.
  18. Heavens no TC. For the uninformed, Clement is the lefty hitting catcher who was picked 3rd (ahead of Braun) in the loaded 2005 draft. He's currently batting .271/.364/.514 for Tacoma with 16 HR and 55 RBI. Unlike Estrada, he'll take a walk too having drawn 42 already this season.
  19. Memo to Ned: Weeks has post All Star OBP of .436. Not exactly the guy to be benching IMHO.
  20. Weeks is not going to get on a roll sitting. If his wrist is so sore he can't play 3 days in a row, they need to go out and get an everyday 2B.
  21. It's at this exact point in the season, Monday July 24, 2006 to be exact where Weeks came out of a game against Pittsburgh at which time the Brewers trailed by just 4 1/2 in the wild card. The Brewers walloped the Pirates that night 12-8 and Steve Phillips said on Baseball Tonight that the Brewers would sign and not trade Carlos Lee. Losses the next two games to Pittsburgh though, coupled with the loss of Weeks, led Melvin to pull the trigger on the Lee deal and the rest is history. If Weeks hits .280 the rest of the season and stays healthy, I believe the Brewers win the division going away. He's that much of a force if he's going well.
  22. With Kenji Johjima having established himself as a first rate catcher for Mariners, and the Mariners needing starting pitching, Clement is a guy I would target for one of Brewers' starters.
  23. Melvin commented last week that there was zero chance he'd play this year and likely will have to retire.
  24. I think Hart can hit anywhere but Weeks has to be at or near the top of the order. I felt from day one it was a mistake to bat Weeks 8th. It totally negated his number one asset, speed. When the 8th hitter gets on with less than 2 outs, he gets bunted over anyway. With 2 outs if he runs, big deal, the pitcher is still batting. Besides, for the Brewers to be the team they can be it is mandatory that they get Weeks going. He's a whole lot more likely to get his bat going batting in front of the boppers on this team than hitting 8th.
  25. "Unless you think Weeks is shot for the season there is no way Brewers should be looking at Castillo" The questions you have to ask yourself hauser42, is can the Brewers afford to wait any longer for Weeks to show a sign of life? Judging from the lineups that Ned has been using, the answer apparently is no. Now Graffy and Counsell are decent fill-ins, but Castillo is an everyday top of the order type 2nd baseman. Plus when you start Graffy or Counsell, your bench is weakened. Another factor to consider is that Counsell may be needed more to spell the slumping Hardy as he did yesterday. The purpose of renting players at the trading deadline is to upgrade for two months. I think Castillo would be an upgrade.
