  1. Will be interesting to see if Albers is the odd man out.
  2. I would think MLB needs to keep the 30th open for potential game 163 and they play the potentially rained out game in St. Louis as part of doubleheader.
  3. I think it's going to come down to the series against the Reds. They're going to face both Gray and Castillo, no easy task and Suarez is red hot with 9 HR in September and he's a Brewer killer. Gray's been tough on the Brewers when they had Yelich. At the same time the Brewers are facing the Reds, Cubs are playing Pittsburgh. If they can take 2 of 3 in Cincy, I think they grab the first WC over the Nats who have 5 games against rival that will be loose and looking to take down the Nats followed by series against tough Indians.
  4. Yeah, that sounds about right. Chacin is a good pitcher. I'm not real sure what happened this year He's available this winter. I think the Brewers know he's a good pitcher. They just couldn't risk waiting for him to get it together.
  5. The Brewers had no chance of resigning Fielder. Resigning Yelich can't be completely ruled out. The difference? Fielder was a Boras client and determined to get to FA. Yelich has already signed one long term team friendly deal so another can't be ruled out. Now the Brewers will have offer something like 5 additional years for $150-175 million, which would likely be an overpay for the last couple years, but Braun's last couple were overpays too yet I don't think they are that big of a deal.
  6. Gamel's hitting .350/.444/.450 vs. LHP. Granted it's a small sample but I think Counsell will continue to start him vs. LHP.
  7. It's not inconceivable they still get in. There's still firepower in the lineup and the schedule isn't daunting, but he'll be missed.
  8. I think Brewers are taking a close look at Jay Jackson. As Counsell said last week. "His stuff plays"
  9. Conventional wisdom is that the White Sox will re-sign Abreu, but he'd be the perfect target for a Brewer team that struggles so much against LH pitchng.
  10. How about getting Pomeranz locked up as well? The guy looks like he could be a premier bullpen piece.
  11. Gindl got all of 151 major league AB's to prove himself and was a 0.2 WAR player. He didn't fail as much as he never really had a shot. By the way, Gindl's still playing in indy ball and can still hit. He slashed .297/.398/.519 with 20 HR and 83 RBI in the Atlantic League. I once though his only chance was to turn into the second coming of Matt Stairs. He never quite developed the power like Stairs who was way ahead of his time with his big upper cut swing. Interestingly, Gindl logged 14 innings as a pitcher this season, with a 6.43 ERA. He fanned 14, but walked 18.
  12. Jeffress and Chacin will be lucky to get major league contracts this winter. They're not all that old but the game has changed and the Brewers weren't interested in bringing either back. I do think they'd like to bring Pomeranz back though if they can agree to terms. They want to see more of Jay Jackson in September. Is he worth a 40 man spot this winter? Is Nelson? Who's next to go? Gio?
  13. Pretty much agree with your list, except if Moose hurting, Shaw up earlier. And Burnes will be up at some point. I don't see Freitas until AAA season is over. I agree that Shaw may be up soon if Moose is banged up. I don't see why they'd bring up Wilkerson for any reason. I think he's a good candidate to clear off the 40 man roster. Stearns has to bring up Faria to justify the Aguilar trade. They have 5 games vs. the Cubs from Sept 1-8. They'll see LH in at least 3 of those games and Freitas killed LH pitching at AAA. He's got more value than any of the others they'll call up.
  14. Unless they move Hiura to 1B, as much as I like Scooter, I agree there's no room for him. I was at the game in spring training this year where he got hurt. I'm sure that's a huge reason for his poor season. One thing about that injury. On the day of that game, the main road from Goodyear, I-10, was closed in sections and caused massive traffic jams eastbound toward Phoenix. That day the Reds literally arrived about 15 minutes prior to the first scheduled pitch. Reds players had maybe 5 minutes to stretch and get ready to play after getting off their bus. Considering the type of injury he sustained, I think that might well have been a factor.
  15. Too bad he won't be up until after the games started by Quintana and Hamels this weekend.
  16. I'd go no more than $5 million AAV on a deal and three years at most (maybe a team option or two). I also want to be able to bring Gio back as well to keep the depth going (arguably on a 3/$10.5 or 2/$8 deal). I was thinking more of the 2 years as the maximum. Agree he doesn't quite have the resume for 2/15. More like 2/8 or 2/9. It's not like the Brewers are spending a lot on starting pitching, and can't afford a million or two a year overpay. He's had a good year and his rebound from a rough month prior to the deal is quite impressive.
  17. Chacin type contract makes sense.
  18. Have to take 2 of 3 from both the Cards and Cubs this week. It's make or break time. Nats are exposing Cubs. The favorite clearly is St. Louis at this point.
  19. Look at it this way. Nelson and Suter are pitching well enough that they could piggyback a start or two if needed. They'll likely DFA both Taylor Williams and Wilkerson to make room for them coming off the 60 day DL. There's really no positional player that makes sense taking off the 40 man.

  22. Williams and Jackson have been providing solid work out of the pen recently giving the pen the feel of having a little more depth than they've had all year.
