  1. Haven't read through the entire thread but somebody needs to show Lafluer the tape of the 2003 Eagles playoff game. He pulled a classic "Mike Sherman" and just barely escaped. When you have 4th and 3 on the opponents side of the field, and a first down basically ends the game and you have a Hall of Fame quarterback, you don't take the ball out of his hands and put the game on a shaky tired defense on a slippery field.
  2. If they go the "scrap heap" route, I'm still all over Ryon Healy. His full season average is 28 HR and 86 RBI. Put him in Miller Park and he's a 30 HR guy.
  3. I'd rather have Minnesota beat Iowa, and have the Badgers spoil Minnesota's unbeaten season, get back the axe, then sit back and watch as they get pummeled by Ohio State. I want no part of a rematch with Ohio State which is far and away the best team in the country (and it's not close, sorry LSU fans, Ohio State will hang 50 on you).
  4. If they sign Pomeranz, I'd try to move Claudio. Next year starts rule where relief pitcher has to face 3 hitters or end the inning. Claudio figures to make around $2 million in arby. Between the savings of not having to pay Albers and Jeffress, and what they save by dealing Claudio, they could pay Pomeranz. Three years and $25 million? Heck the Giants are willing to pay Smith the QO of $17.8 million for one year.
  5. They'd be compromising their outfield depth by moving Braun to 1B. Cain needs days off and they do have a nice option in Gamel, but honestly Grisham is not proven by any means and if he gets off to a slow start, he'll probably be optioned. They desperately need another RH hitting corner OF if they move Braun to 1B. If they keep him in LF sharing time with Grisham and or Gamel, they need a RH bat at a corner infield spot.
  6. Matt Adams should come pretty cheap. He faded badly in the 2nd half though,
  7. He hit 32 HR combined in AA, AAA and majors in 2018. I think the Brewers expect 20+ from him in 2020. Steamer has a lot more confidence in a rebound from Shaw than I do.
  8. I still can't see any reason to tender Shaw. It wasn't just a bad year, it was off the charts bad. If you pay him close to $5 million, you commit yourself to giving him a significant amount of ABs to start the year. What serious contender has a guy playing an offensive position taking ABs after posting numbers like Shaw did in 2019?
  9. Forgot to remove Austin and Spangenberg who elected FA after being outrighted. Payroll stands at roughly 96.35M It's David Freitas, not Jake.
  10. He'll get 4 years of arb instead of 3. We still control Hader for 4 more years. If his production doesn't slip, his arby figures will balloon rapidly after this year.
  11. I could see them signing Encarnacion and Gregorious for one year each. MLBtraderumors is projecting EE to get one year for $8 million. He could probably outproduce Thames and he's a RH bat. They could let Shaw get a start or two a week to give Encarnacion plenty of rest.
  12. Not good news for a team that's trying to make room for multiple mid to upper level FA. Probably moves up by a year the timeline for dealing him. I wouldn't expect it this offseason but next year it becomes a real possibility.
  13. The Brewer media did a good job of mentioning every time he made a play that he'd never won a Gold Glove. Eventually that filtered over into national media too and he had a number of catches make ESPN top tens.
  14. No doubt he is a target. I mean at this stage anyone is a target, even if not an obvious position of need. Didi is probably a big target just based on position of need. Price may get high for the Brewers or they may spend it on Moose/Grandal instead. Most contenders are pretty well set at SS, so his market might not be all that strong and coming off his worst year, he may want a one year deal to re-establish his value. At this point, the Brewers don't have a heck of a lot committed for 2020 with the trade of Anderson and not picking up Thames' option. I still think Pomeranz is a high priority for the Brewers in addition to Grandal/Moustakas and he's going to get at least what they'd have paid Chase.
  15. His defense in RF for the Cubs was not an issue. Whether he can handle 1B is another question. I'd keep an eye on Jose Abreu as a first base option.
  16. This is no gimmie. Rivers can slice and dice any secondary. He's not mobile but he gets rid of the ball in a flash. They have had problems in run blocking, but Packers have been vulnerable on the ground and Gordon doesn't need much to break a long one. Packers should be able to outscore them because their defense has been disappointing. Bosa has to be accounted for but they can be both run and passed on. I see Packers 34 Chargers 26.
  17. SP: Wheeler Plan B: Lyles They probably need to non-tender Anderson to make Wheeler work financially. Lyles seems more realistic if they spend a lot elsewhere. I'd keep Gonzalez on the back burner, and plan on using Suter as a starter. RP: Pomeranz and Jay Jackson Pomeranz won't be cheap, but he was so key in their late surge. Jackson's still enough under the radar to be a bargain and be an upgrade over Albers. Catcher: Grandal Plan B: Vogt Grandal is number one target. Vogt still can hit and there's a 26th roster spot to use for a 3rd catcher as defensive replacement SS: Gregorius Plan B: Nobody Gregorius is the lone guy out there that's a clear upgrade over Arcia. 3B: Moustakas Plan B: Healy 3B has potential to be black hole. I think they'll sign Moose if they don't get Grandal back. I don't see them signing both. Healy is a bargain out there with upside who's not at the end of his career. He'd fit nicely in platoon either at 3rd or 1st. Might take a trade to fill this spot without Moose. Utility: Any number of guys on a minor league deal. They have to save money somewhere. If they land Didi, maybe Arcia takes this role.
  18. Anyone know where the 2020 payroll stands now assuming all arby eligible players are retained?
  19. The big thing about 1B defense is ability to prevent errors from your fellow infielders by digging out bad throws.
  20. For what it's worth CBS website listed Brewers prominently as suitor for Gregorious
  21. Their 10 man rotation includes: 38 year old Kyle Korver 33 year old George Hill 33 year old Wesley Matthews 32 year old Ersan Ilyasova 31 year old twins, Brook and Robin Lopez and soon to be 30 year old Eric Bledsoe How many teams in the NBA will have 70% of their rotation on wrong side of 30? It's not that each of those players is necessarily finished but it begs the question when they can't finish games that maybe the guys with younger legs should be seeing more minutes? And what about the chemistry off the court between guys of such differing ages? I haven't attended a Bucks game in years, but frankly I'd much rather pay to see DiVincenzo than Korver who's been around forever and basically does one thing. For that matter, I'd rather watch an athletic Wilson or Bender than see more of Ilyasova or Robin Lopez.
  22. Healy's a proven power hitting RH bat who can play both corner infield spots and won't cost much. That's a need on this roster. Defense at the corner infield spots isn't critical especially in the days of so many strikeouts and I'm looking for run production in the 6th or 7th spot in the order. He's been a run producer. Plus he'll only be 28 next year. In his rookie year he posted .305/.337/.524 in 72 games. His career OPS+ is 104. All the Brewers have right now at the corner spots are Shaw, Thames, and Austin. Two are LH hitters and Austin is marginal major leaguer.
  23. The problem with this team is obvious. They've surrounded Giannis with a bunch of old guys. It's got to be the oldest team in the league by far. Where's Wilson, DD and Bender who was terrific in the preseason?
  24. Healy opted for FA. Might be a worthwhile value reclamation project as a RH platoon at first or third.
  25. I was thinking the same thing. Heard Loretta on Chicago radio a few weeks ago around the time he was being interviewed for Cubs manager job. He's astute, articulate and knows baseball inside and out. Glad the Cubs didn't hire him.
