  1. Hire Jeff Gillooly to take out Yasmani's knee? Seriously, though, I'm as skeptical of offensive production as anyone with that league, but it's time to give this guy some starts to see if he can help at the ML level ... although the combo of Pina at C and Grandal at 1B against lefties hasn't been bad. Why not Freitas at 1B and Pina catching vs. LH pitching? Or Freitas catching and Grandal at 1B? Grandal simply is not the hitter from the right side he is from the left side and Pina is a good backup. The other issue is having a RH bat available to pinch hit late in games. Freitas has earned a call up. He's already on the 40 man. Freitas hasn't had a hot month at AAA. He's been raking all season. He's got 102 hits. I bet a good percentage of those are off of pitchers who've seen time in the majors this year. Why hasn't he?
  2. I still think Brewers should consider Pomeranz in the rotation. I understand he's been great out of the pen, but if you look at his starts for SF in June and July, he was effective in 5 out of 7 starts albeit in 5 innings only.
  3. At the very least, he can help out of the pen. With no ability to add players via trade, getting a guy like Suter back would be tremendous.
  4. I'd take a flier on Godley. Even this year his FIP is a run better than his ERA, and he's held the opponent scoreless in 6 of his last 8 appearances out of the pen. Besides, there's no other way of adding arms and the Brewers are losing them at a rate of one a week.
  5. I hate how Brian and Bill keep bringing up Chase's issues with the 3rd time through the order when it was terrible defense by Moustakas that led to the just the 2nd run charged to him, not his pitching. How many times has Anderson or any other Brewer starter been staked to an early 4 or 5 run lead that would allow them the leeway to allow a run or two after the 5th inning?
  6. Trading Aguilar put them at a greater disadvantage than they already had against their main rival in the division. And for what? A 12th or 13th arm on your staff who more likely than not will be completely forgotten in 5 years? Yes Aguilar was having a bad year though he'd been better since the first week of June and his season was a heck of of lot better than Shaw's. Where's this supposed depth at 1B anyway? I don't see a top prospect in their system who plays 1B. There's Freitas, but I guess Stearns hasn't noticed that he's bludgeoned LH pitching.
  7. Really shocking he'd want to come back to Madison. But good luck to him getting back into school and back on the field. Without actually knowing what happened, I've gotta respect the jurors and their 30 minutes of deliberation. He could really help the team on the field this year. Still, a fresh start seems like it'd have to be better. Nonsense. He knows the offense. These are his teammates.
  8. Way overdue is bringing up Freitas and having him in the lineup against LH pitching either catching or at first base. The guy's OPSing 1.341 against lefties in 74 AB's. Then maybe think about replacing the hitting coach with whoever is the hitting coach at San Antonio.
  9. Freitas now OPS'ing 1.341 against LH pitching and hitting a phenomenal .486 with 36 hits in 74 AB's. Yet the Brewers who are horrific vs. LH pitching can't seem to find a spot for him on the 25 man roster.
  10. I'm not so sure they shouldn't consider Pomeranz as a starter in 2020. He's never been an "innings eater" as a starter but he's just 2 years removed from a 17-6 record with 3.32 ERA in the AL East. In 5 of his last 7 starts with SF, he allowed a grand total of 2 earned runs over 20 innings with 34 K's. I'd give him a mulligan for an awful May. This is a quality arm starting or relieving.
  11. Small sample: 6 professional innings, zero runs, 3 hits, 1 BB, 10 K. I'd like to see the Brewers be aggressive moving him up the ladder. I think a 2020 MLB debut is not out of his reach.
  12. Yeah a 3 up 3 down inning with 3 K's does qualify as slightly better than not getting beat around.
  13. Very similar to Chris Davis, but it's understandable for why he continued to play. He had a huge contract and team was going nowhere. There's no excuse for Brewers to continue to play him.
  14. The problem with Shaw on the roster instead of Aguilar, Saladino, Perez or another RH bat is that they now are overloaded with LH bats. Making it worse, Grandal isn't much of a hitter from the right side, and Braun and Cain need days off. The solution in the short term is bringing up Freitas who is killing LH pitching in the minors and who is fully capable of playing 1B as well as catcher or simply bringing back Perez who's demotion off the roster was ill advised in that he's been better over his career than Saladino, and when a utility player goes into a slump over 30-35 AB's as Perez did, it tends to last a few weeks. Making Hernan the scapegoat wasn't the best move.
  15. He may have, but Brewers are without their number one starter for another month, and he hasn't gotten a solid starter to help them stay in the race until he's back. Time's getting short.
  16. At least Pomeranz has been on the upswing. He had 5 starts since June 1st where he went 5 innings and allowed a total of 2 runs. 5 inning starters are Counsel's thing.
  17. Isn't Freddy Galvis still out there? 50 minutes left.
  18. I'll agree with that. Perez is outhitting him significantly. He needs to be on the 25 man instead of Saladino.
  19. Freitas is batting (get this) .463 (33 for 70) vs. LH pitching this year. I'd be very upset if he doesn't get a call up. This team remains very vulnerable vs. LHP and they need a guy who can mash against lefties. Plus he gives them a 3rd catcher which can come in handy.
  20. I'd bring up Freitas who's been tearing the cover off the ball and play him or Grandal at 1B vs. lefties. Let's see if they don't use Faria to get a more established starter or now use Houser for that purpose.
  21. He took a big step this year, but he has extreme fly-ball tendencies. Thus, he relies on pitching in a cavernous park—Miller would not play to his strengths at all. Caleb Smith has fanned 11 guys per 9 innings. Pitching in Miller Park might not play to his strengths but 14 of the 17 HR he's allowed have been solo HR, and opponents are only slugging .314 with men on base against him. He bears down with men on. I was at the game he pitched at Miller Park in early June. Yelich got him once and Moose twice in that game, all solo shots, but he did get 7 groundball outs in 5 innings.
  22. Thinking way out of the box, what about building up Ethan Small's innings and him being an option to slide into a starter's role in Milwaukee later on this year? When he was drafted it was said by many that he was close to being a finished product. He's a man among boys in the rookie league in Arizona, sort of like what a major leaguer would look like rehabbing there.
  23. This shows why it's a mistake to always sit on your hands until the final hours before a trade deadline especially if you need pitching help. They were limited to guys who were available to pitch Tuesday or Wednesday. Woodruff's been out over a week and they were totally unprepared for another pitcher going down. The pressure's on Stearns now to get a starter that's actually going to be an improvement over what they have. He's not shown the ability to when there's interest from multiple other teams.
  24. Pirates were like one more bad start from DFA'ing Lyles and Brewers give them a decent AA arm? I thought Stearns was hard at work?
  25. It made more sense to sign Matt Harvey off the street.on a one game trial
