  1. How many times do you need to get burned trying to go lefty lefty? Other than Hader we don't have a good lefty. Williams has thrown as well as anyone lately, Jennings has been crappy lately. Why not just let Williams finish it? Jennings has been okay lately but he's never been a guy you trust in that situation. It's not like he suddenly got elite. Williams had good command of very good stuff. Just criminal.
  2. Just seven Brewers have been on the major league roster all season and avoided the DL so far: Chacin Hader Jennings Jeffress Aguilar Perez Shaw I can't remember another season like this. Ever.
  3. And the beat goes on. Phillips with 94 K's in 258 AAA ABs. Will fit right in.
  4. The team that's on the field today isn't a playoff team. Not even close. Their key guys can't stay healthy. Counsell lets close games slip away by not using his better relievers when they are just down a run. The catching situation is a joke.
  5. I'd trade Stearns for Sydergaard if that's his dream job.
  6. He's better than what they have.
  7. Counsell once again using mop up relievers with only a one run deficit and predictably the game becomes out of reach.
  8. All signs are pointing to this happening in a few days. Baltimore is acting like they have an offer they'll accept and are checking on every possible interested team out there one more time to see if they'll make an offer to leapfrog the one the Brewers made. Meanwhile Brewers are planting stories about interest elsewhere to insure Baltimore doesn't waiver on the timing which I'm sure the Brewers have said would have to be complete by the AS break. Brewers letting Lopez bat with man in scoring position rather than risk using Burnes in back to back games? That sealed it for me. He's gone. Losing Burnes would hurt, and eventually Arcia could come back to haunt them, but it's not like Burnes is the only pitching prospect they have or that their current rotation has a bunch of guys who need to be replaced right away. The lineup after the 5th spot (and sometimes the 4th spot) hasn't produced anywhere near enough to hold off the Cubs. The price is high, but look what the Brewers got for Gomez just a few years ago. It's the price of poker and who knows, maybe Attanasio's got the cash in reserve to make Manny a Brewer beyond this year. A long shot dream to be sure, but they are nowhere near the luxury tax threshold unlike many of his expected suitors.
  9. Wonder who had scouts at the Biloxi game.
  10. Wow, 2.2 million votes, the second highest total ever in the ASG final vote. Well done, Brewers fans. Try 20.2 million votes. I estimate I voted 300 or so times. Segura's deserving but he got plenty of help from Brewer fans who were highly motivated the right a wrong.
  11. How often are the Brewers in this position nearing mid July? Prospects are nice, but we're talking about one of the premier bats in the game. If Ortiz and Phillips isn't quite enough and you absolutely don't want to give up Burnes (and neither do I unless it's in a Syndergard deal), then add a piece from your very deep system.
  12. Count me in I did too, not just because Segura is a former Brewer, but he's having a heck of a year and deserves it. Have to think Aguilar is getting some votes from Seattle fans as well, with his all his competition being from big market teams. Sort of small market fans looking out for each other.
  13. No it isn't. I was there in 2004, and you didn't want to go south of the park as it was on the edge of a run down area. Besides that, the Trop is kind of a dump. It's cheesy and dank. Felt like it was build on the cheap.
  14. Peralta isn't going down anytime soon. It'll likely be 10 days between his start tonight and his first start after the ASG. I could see a 6 man rotation at some point too that would limit his innings somewhat.
  15. The same guys saying Machado would be disruptive in the clubhouse warned last year that Swarzak was despised by his teammates. That's a complete non factor. One guy doesn't come in and set the tone for a clubhouse. He'd be welcomed with open arms because the remainder of the team knows what impact he'd have. Even the guys like Miller and Saladino who he'd be taking some AB's from, realize there's no shame in losing PT to Machado, and they'll still be in the team's plans for 2019, especially if Arcia is included in the deal.
  16. I'd contend that Payton Henry might be a better prospect in the long run than Nottingham. Nottingham is certainly not the only catching prospect.
  17. I wonder if the O's would have interest in taking back Davies as part of a deal for Machado?
  18. How about some love for Tyrone Taylor? Last 10 games he's 16 for 40 (.400) with 5 HR and 15 RBI. He's still only 24 and isn't striking out much.
  19. He was just fine today. I'm a Woodruff fan too, and would love to see him up as a regular member of the rotation. I'm sure there is a reason why they went with Wilkerson instead of Woodruff, though. Matchups perhaps? In any case, Wilkerson did exactly what he was supposed to today. Not his fault the bats have taken the day off. I think it was Wilkerson and not Woodruff because they were looking ahead to the doubleheader in Pittsburgh. Whoever pitched today will likely be sent down to make room for Cain tomorrow and wouldn't be eligible to be called back up for next week.
  20. I'd take Houser over Lopez any day, but in that role, does it matter? They really can use a healthy Albers and the return of Miley that will allow them to move Suter to the pen so they don't get stuck having Zagurski pitching in the 8th inning of a one run game again.
  21. My guess is Wilkerson starts today, then returns to CS and they bring back Lopez as an extra bullpen arm. Suter returns to start opener vs. Pirates on Thursday replacing Lopez on the roster. If he's not ready, then Miley is an option. Woodruff comes up as the 26th man on Saturday to start one of the games of the DH.
  22. Moments like that are one of the reasons I love sports. No doubt Orf inspired every minor league player out there who's not considered a prospect. If you're playing professionally and you produce and force an organization to keep you around long enough that eventually they take notice, then there's a chance slim though it is.
  23. It's early but the Miller acquisition looks like it's paying off. Getting traded to a first place team seems to have revitalized him to the point where he has to be in the lineup almost every day against RHP as he's now carrying an OPS+ of 121 for the season. With this pitching staff being strikeout/flyball types, his defensive issues are less problematic. Now if Saladino/Orf can provide some consistent offense, the lineup looks a lot better.
  24. It's incumbent on Stearns to see if he can upgrade his roster coming out of the break and not waiting until the last minute. He kind of got caught with his pants down last year. Now the Cubs don't have the pieces to make a huge preemptive move this time around, but having another bat or arm to go up against LA would be huge. That being said, Miller seems to be revitalized in a Brewer uniform and just might turn out to be a much more significant acquisition than first thought. The two weeks after the All Star game are critical and they're facing the Dodgers, Nationals and Giants. They also need their key players healthy. It's one thing to survive for 10 days with Cain, Yelich and Braun all down to varying extents, but over a longer period against solid teams, things could go sour in a hurry.
