  1. Twice in the last 3 seasons Albers started out great for one or two months, then totally collapsed from June on. In fact in 2016, he did not allow a run in April for the White Sox, but finished the year with an ERA of 6.31. He's useless as a mop up guy because even at his best, he can't go multiple innings. He'll be 36 next year. Sure he could rebound, but not sure he's worth taking up a roster spot.
  2. Mop up? You have to get some outs to mop up. He can't get 3 outs much less go 2 innings. He's been allowing a HR to every 3rd batter or so he's faced since June 1st. He's owed $2.5 million next year and will be 36? If they can't eat that then they can't eat any contract. He needs to find a new career.
  3. Albers should be gone. It's not time to worry about having to eat a contract. At least Lyles can eat some innings in one sided games without having to put position piayers in a game.
  4. I've been a Brewers fan since the beginning. In all those years, I remember twice when they coughed up a 6 run lead in the 9th. Once was against the Orioles around 1977. Brewers were up 6-0. Orioles got 6 in the 9th and 4 in the 10th on a grand slam by Al Bumbry if memory serves me. I was there for that one. The other time was in 84 against the Rangers. I have never felt totally comfortable with a lead less than 7. Albers brought me flashbacks. He's got to go. Now..
  5. Perez has homered in consecutive AB' s at Miller Park. He homered against Nats in 9th inning of finale of last home stand.
  6. I think it's time to DFA Albers and bring up Woodruff to stay. Unless Williams gets it together in the next week, I'd swap him out for Barnes too.
  7. It isn't like they can send Albers down, though. If he's gone, he's gone for good, as they'd have to DFA him. That would seem like a waste, at least to me. Albers was pretty great up until recently. Honestly, I think he would take Peralta's spot. The team won't really have a need for a fifth starter soon, and with the heavy pen usage, it would make sense to have another guy out there. Albers was good for 2 months. Now he's bad. That's been his career pattern. Brewers can't afford to keep hoping good Albers up. Since June 1st, Albers has allowed 16 earned runs in 5 innings over 7 appearances, just one of which he managed to not allow a run. Here's a summary of failures: June 1st: He enters a game in the 6th inning with 2 outs and runners on 1st and 2nd and the game tied 3-3. He promptly gives up a triple and a single, allowing both inherited runners to score and he's charged with one run. Brewers lose game 8-3. June 3rd: He enters a 1-1 game with one out in the 6th and a runner on first. He promptly allows back to back HR before getting the final two outs. Brewers lose 6-1 June 8th: Manages not to be charged with a run but does allow an inherited runner to score on a sac fly in a 12-4 Brewer win. June 11th: Comes into a game against Cubs in the 11th inning with score tied 2-2. Allows a tape measure HR to Anthony Rizzo, the first batter he faced, followed by 4 more runs on 3 hits, 2 walks and a hit batter. Brewers lose 7-2. Then goes on DL Jul 29th. Comes into game to start the 5th with the Brewers trailing 5-3. Faces 4 batters allowing a single, a walk and a triple scoring two runs. Leaves game with Brewers now down 8-3. Gets charged with 3rd run, when Jennings allows sac fly. Brewers lose game 8-5. Aug 1st. Comes in for 10th inning of tie game and promptly allows a single and home run. Game over. Aug 2nd: Brewers down 7-2 with two runners on in the 5th. Once again the first batter he faced takes him deep. After a walk, he gets out of the inning with 2 strikeouts, and starts the 6th with another, before allowing a line drive single and yet another HR. Leaves game with Brewers now trailing 12-2. To summarize, he's allowed 6 HR in his last 5 innings. His failures directly or strongly contribute to 4 losses in those 7 appearances and he does not contribute in any way to a win. How is he still on the roster?
  8. The problem wasn't starting Perez. You mentioned it. It's "Arcia being Arcia". Arcia needs to be his 2017 version or go back to Colorado Springs. Counsell apparently isn't convinced he's back, so why is he here? Saladino would have been used to hit there, but he wasn't available.
  9. Albers has had really bad stretches in his career. This is nothing new. Right now he can't be used in high leverage situations.
  10. Dollar for dollar it's not close.
  11. Orel Herscheiser was raving about Miley last night. Said his cutter was preventing Dodger hitters from coming close to squaring up balls and last night he landed one curve after another at the knees.
  12. Here's how it works. Teams place players on waiver wire. If nobody claims him, he'll have cleared waivers and can be traded to any other team. For guys getting claimed, the priority of the claims is based on the reverse order of the standings. Once claimed, there's a 48 period for the two teams to work out a deal. If no deal can be worked out in most cases the team will withdraw him from waivers. There other option is to simply let the player go for the waiver price to the claiming team. Once a player has been withdrawn once from waivers, he cannot be put through revocable waivers again this season.
  13. That's likely, but with a lot of off days in August, they could get by with one less arm too which would mean Williams getting optioned.
  14. Derek Holland is another logical candidate to clear waivers. Keep an eye on Mike Minor too. He's owed about $23 million on a deal that runs through 2020.
  15. I think there's a decent chance Gonzalez clears waivers. He's not real cheap. The teams behind the Brewers all made their pitching moves or are too far out of it to want to shell out $4 million or so on a long shot. The best the Cubs could do is if they fall behind Brewers is to put in a blocking claim. Then there's the guy that won 17 games last year out there that only the Brewers have access too. Don't discount that the Brewers inaction on pitching at the deadline is a sign they have confidence in Zach Davies' return.
  16. Agree about the catching situation, plus they have 3 catchers putting up really good numbers at AAA. They don't have an All Star there, but they have 5 guys that can be argued are major league catchers in their system.
  17. Schoop's been on fire the last month. With Cubs now with 4 lefties in their rotation it couldn't be more timely. I love this deal.
  18. I don' think Brewers would include Burnes or Hiura in any offer for Archer. Burnes can help them win this year which would defeat the purpose It wouldn't shock me though if they are offering something like Woodruff, Ortiz, Nottingham and Ray and throwing in Villar and a couple million and the Rays are holding out for Peralta instead of Woodruff or Hiura instead of Ray.
  19. Well they'll get Strasburg back in about a week or so, and Roark did look like his old self in beating the Brewers last week. Maybe they're in on Harvey or Fiers and just want to clear some money?
  20. He's probably a better gamble than the Cubs getting Hamels. I get he's not much of an improvement if any, but he would add depth and the Brewers don't want to get caught short like the did last year. In theory, lefties should match up better against the Reds and even the Cubs with Bryant out.
  21. Danny Duffy. The fact he got roughed up in his last start after a string of very good ones tells me he himself was sensing something. Hard to see KC competing in the 3 seasons remaining on his deal, and they simply can't risk his value falling even with a fairly reasonable contract.
  22. There's a good chance Colorado Springs gets into the playoffs along with Biloxi so that would extend their seasons a bit.
  23. Anderson or Chacin obviously right now. Either would be on a very short leash. The key is having the top 5 bullpen arms rested and ready.
