  2. If the only return is Dye, forget giving up any pitchers on the 40-man roster, much less Turnbow or Parra. That would be such a waste.
  3. If you have a first-round bye, how would that work? You would have teams that just wouldn't play for an entire week? I figure they'd expand the playoffs before they give teams long layoffs. Besides, there would be more revenue with more playoff games and more teams in the playoff hunt. It would cause more interest and more fans at the gate. MLB wouldn't turn down more money.
  4. Woogie mentioned that he'd be busy this week so I thought I'd try to help out. I'll see what I can add to it throughout the day. Come back soon Woogie!

  6. "nice rack Mariah." That's probably the first thing I would have thought of too. Well, maybe second after the initial, "Oh my, gah gah blah hibbity dibbity..." before passing out from joy.
  7. In Richland Center, there's a big, three-day, country music concert every summer. I usually work on the stage crew and I've met some different people. I've talked with Mark Wills, Keith Urban, and I petted Martina McBride's dog. This last year, I spoke briefly with Ronnie Milsap. I talked at length with the drummer for Blake Shelton because for the show he was wearing a Prince Fielder jersey. I complemented him on it and he mentioned it was a gift. When I told him the price, he felt guilty for accepting it and I suggested that I could alleviate the guilt and take it from him. He laughed and politely refused. I missed Michelle Branch and the Wreckers...I wanted to see her badly.
  8. Geoff Jenkins and Jason Bere came to my middle school when I was in eighth grade. All the girls were fawning over Jenkins because he was cute, I was fawning over him because he was one of my favorite players. I talked to Jenks and Bere for about 15 minutes and was late for class. I think Jenks was weirded out a little when I was telling him how I listened to his first ML game on the radio and remembered almost all of it. I went to the Brewers first interleague game in 1997 at Wrigley Field and Bryce Florie personally gave me a ball so the Cubs fans around me wouldn't get it. I went to my first Buckethead Brigade game against the Phillies. I don't remember the date, but it was the first year of it and the T-shirts were a lime green. I met Tim VanWagoner, the Brewers director of media relations (or something like that). But during that game, Ulice Payne came through the section and walked within 3 feet of me. I had a bucket with the ball and glove logo and "Brew Crew" written on it that one of my friends had made and didn't want to wear anymore. So I called out to Ulice and gave him the bucket. He smiled and promptly put it on his head and walked around wearing it. My dad said he saw it on TV.
  9. I don't see why Turnbow didn't come in regardless. I started listening during the bottom of the seventh on my break. With Balfour and Turnbow warming up, Jim said that Turnbow would come in if the Brewers were able to score. I just assumed they were down. If the score was tied, I don't see why you wouldn't go with your best set-up man in that situation. Oh well, Ned has done a pretty good job recently, so I can't complain too much.
  10. keep the bat still I would love to see him get rid of the waggle. How many people besides Sheffield have made that work? I know it's a timing mechanism, but there has to be some other quirk he can employ. I guess I just like a quiet stance where there isn't much going on.
  11. I don't know what to think. Dunn's production would really outweigh Jenkins's, but I don't like the idea of just renting a player. That might be just because I'm not used to the idea though. If the rumor is accurate, then I would be all for it. I don't like the idea of throwing in Weeks because I still feel like he has an insane amount of potential and I'd hate to throw away those potential All-Star seasons where we'd perennially contend for trying to go for broke on the first shot. If the move doesn't pay off, the Brewers don't win the World Series and Dunn walks...would it be worth it to lose Weeks? If the deal doesn't include Weeks and would go down as stated, sign me up.
  12. The fact that I either can't sleep or I don't want to sleep. I really don't understand it, but it's kind of boring at 2 a.m. At least it gives me time to catch up on my BF.netting.
  13. Just recently I've accepted the fact that I am going to be going into debt. I've made it through three years of college debt free, but that won't be the case. I was almost completely broke after this last school year and will make a little over $4000 this summer. I got approved for a Stafford loan to cover all of my tuition, but I'm not sure if I want to do that. I have no car because I was in an accident in January where the one I was driving was totaled. If I want a decent car, I'm going to have to take out a loan too. I'm a little leery of taking out loans for each one at the same time, but I need both. I'm admittedly naive about loans and such and I've never spent much on a car. Brewerfan.net is usually where I resolve most of my confusion, so I guess I was wondering if anyone had any advice about either.
  14. I guess I never really figured out what a Woot off is all about...can someone give a lowdown? How can I tell what's available?
  15. I was at a game against the Cubs a few years ago where there was over 45,000. I don't remember the exact total or the date, but it was a 1-0 Brewers win. The only run came on a Craig Counsell homer and Sheets pitched into the ninth and struck out about 10. One of the best games I've been to. There were too many Cubs fans, but that place was electric! I haven't been able to make it to any games yet this year because I'm working a M-F second shift job and I'm 60 miles east of Madison without a car. If the reports are right and tickets are in this big of demand for the rest of the season, this may be the first season of my life where I don't make it to at least one game!
  16. Worst part was it was always 92 degrees in the pool, and much warmer in the spring. I go to Platteville now and you are right. It's the same thing with the weight room, it's like a sauna. But they approved an expansion of the PAC, so who knows, they may get some AC. I'm not graduated yet, but I've responded so I'll play along. I will be entering my second year at UW-Platteville. My major is Communication Technologies with an emphasis in Journalism and I'll have at least a minor in history. I spent two years at UW-Richland and got my associates degree. While I was at UW-Richland I worked at Country Kitchen as a cook during the school year and over the summer I worked with a landscaper. The last two summer's I've worked at Dean Foods making fun things like yogurt, sour cream and different kinds of milk. I worked at UW-Platteville's newspaper (the Exponent) as a copy editor, reporter and assistant news editor, all of them without pay. This semester, I'm the news editor and I am definitely working for pay. I also applied for financial aid, but I haven't heard yet about work study. I'll also be looking for another job too.
  17. "Here's to you, and here's to me, And to the friends that we may be. But if by chance we disagree, To hell with you and here's to me!" A funny anecdote about the two of them that you know may be a good way to get into reasons they belong together or why they may last. If nothing else, there's nothing wrong with toasting to love and happiness.
  18. I'd love to say I'd give it to the Hall of Fame, but I wouldn't be able to. I'd auction it and use the money to pay for school, get a car, help my parents fix up their house and get me on good financial standing.
  19. Seeing Nick Neugebauer and Davey Lopes in the same picture almost made me cry, but for two very different reasons.
  20. I'm nervous to try the chorizo, but I'm going to do it. So there are a number of ways to have it? How many options are offered at Miller Park? Which are the best?
  21. I didn't know much about the history of the Brewers when I first became a fan. I started following the team when I was about 7 (1993, I've never followed a winning season), but I've been really interested in the Brewers ever since and I've studied up on them to learn the history. If people are naive about the players of the last decade or even some of the people on the current roster, I get over it. My girlfriend used to never like baseball. I got her interested in the Brewers and I'm excited that she can now recognize players only by sight or jersey number. My little sister used to be a Cubs fan from around 1996-2001. She then was kind of disinterested in baseball for whatever reason. Then came her epiphany. Moments of great realization can be sparked by the most random and crazy things. The oddest thing caused my sister to become a Brewers fan. I was watching a game with her in 2002 and I was not a Wes Helms fan at all. Helms was up to bat and my sister was antagonizing me saying, "yeah, he's gonna hit a home run" in a sarcastic voice. In that at-bat, Helms homered. My sister became intrigued with him and started following the Brewers instead of the Cubs. I even went so far as to do away with my life's guideline and actually sought out a Wes Helms autograph at a game in order to keep my sister's interest on the Brewers and away from the Cubs. It's worked very very well and she even will lurk on this sight and has some knowledge of the minor leagues. I'm so proud. Out of naivety comes understanding.
  22. Right when it happened I thought it was the wrong call. I was watching the game with my brother, I turned to him and mentioned it to him. He didn't notice the interference either, but after he saw the replay, he agreed. Actually, when Bonds hit #71 at home, I thought that was fan interference too.
  23. This is something that's a big thing with me. I come from a family where all of my mom's siblings (13 in all) are overweight and my dad's family has a history of heart problems. My little sister is overweight, my oldest brother is grossly overweight and in an attempt to prevent that, my other brother is grossly underweight (I believe he has an eating disorder, but am having a hard time getting him or my family to agree with me). I'm 21 and I have a feeling my metabolism is starting to catch up to me so I'm trying to ratchet up my preemptive measures. I'm in good shape (5'10, 178 lbs), but I want to stay that way. I was thinking about the things that I do to try and stay in shape, and these are some of what I came up with. 1. Daily exercise - I don't care if it's walking, running, biking, weight lifting or something else. It's important to stay active above all else. Someone else mentioned that if you consume more calories that you burn off, you gain weight. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it's 3500 calories = 1 pound. As far as lifting weights goes, I really like doing it and I feel better about myself when I do, but I agree that its more important to do cardio work at first to speed up your metabolism. The two tips I have about exercise are: 1) don't compare yourself to others, if you aren't used to exercising, there will be people that can do things at a higher level, don't let that discourage you 2) exercise improves your mood and sense of self worth, I had severe depression in high school and exercise was some of the best medicine to get me through it. If running or walking does work, try biking, it's low impact on your joints and a lot of fun. 2. Deep fried food is the devil - I love eating fried food...don't know why, it's boiled in fat, dripping with grease and is awful for you. But it's still tasty. I try to avoid fried things at all costs. Breading on anything is a bad sign. Stay away. 3. Carbs are not a bad thing - I never bought into the Atkins diet. Your body needs carbs for energy and whole grain foods like pasta and wheat bread are also high in fiber. As long as you stay active, carbs shouldn't build up because they are the most easily available form of energy in your body. Granola (minus fun things like chocolate) are a good snack. 4. Fruits and Veggies rock - I try not to snack between meals, but if I do, I like to keep fresh fruit and vegetables around instead. I keep a bag of baby carrots around at all times. Grapes and prunes are also a favorite, but if you get carried away, they wreak havoc on your bowels. 5. Set goals for yourself - It's important to stay motivated, and one of the best ways to do that is to have something to work toward. I want to run a sub-6 mile and also be able to run over 10 miles. I'm pretty close to the first one, and I'm able to do between 5 and 6 miles. Make sure you set reasonable goals. You wouldn't start out by swimming the English Channel if you can't do a couple laps in a pool. I wanted to echo Beast Light's idea of drinking water with meals. This is something I do whenever I go to a restaurant. I don't like drinking calories, and it flushes out your kidneys. Trust me, the last thing that you want is a kidney stone. I had one about 18 months ago and it really messed with my health. I had weight-lifting and activity restrictions and was basically kept from doing anything active for about 3.5 weeks. And giving up or at least moderating your alcohol intake is a big thing. (I think) there are 9 calories in every gram of fat, but also 7 calories in every gram of alcohol. That's something I'm going to take very seriously this next school year.
  24. Would she be happier if you both decided not to keep score? I doubt it, she wanted to keep score. This is exactly why I am reluctant to teach my wife. I am afraid she will get very frustrated when she doesn't do so hot. I'm not a great golfer anymore (used to be ok...6 handicap), and I've always said I'm a better teacher of golf than an actual golfer, so I may still try to teach h My girlfriend has gone golfing three times in her life and she seems to think she should be a Michelle Wie or something (she doesn't actually know who Wie is). I'm not a good teacher of golf, I figure that each person has their own things that work for them...and watching other people's swings as they played through, I think that's accurate. It's not the frustration that bothers me, I understand that. It's the pouting and the bad attitude that gets me.
  25. I enjoy golfing a lot. I'm not very good, and I don't claim to be. My girlfriend was telling me that she really wanted to go golfing this weekend. I had taken her with me before a few times and each time it is the same routine: she starts off in a good mood, has a couple crappy holes, hits some balls in the water, misses on her swings, ignores or turns down advice, pouts and complains constantly for the next four holes until she hits a decent shot in the air, and then is better for the last couple holes. Now, I don't mind doing things that I enjoy with her, but she expects to be perfect even though she is a beginner and ends up making the entire afternoon unenjoyable. Bugs the hell out of me.
