  1. I really regret not learning Spanish. I think it would have helped when searching for a job. My Top-Three suggestions: 1. Spanish 2. Arabic 3. Russian
  2. I'm not that surprised by it. For some reason, Jeffrey Loria couldn't really get behind Gonzalez. He flirted with hiring Bobby Valentine during the offseason, and made clear his postseason goals. First he fires Girardi after the team over-achieved under him and now he fires Gonzalez. For the good job that Florida does with scouting and developing players, I wonder what the deal is with their problem is dealing with managers. That being said, I'd fire Macha and offer Gonzalez our job before he has a chance to replace Bobby Cox in Atlanta.
  3. Thanks obsessed. I was really thinking hard about whether or not to get them, but I'm really glad that I did. I was thinking about the Nike Free, but I wanted to try something drastically different. I'm a little jealous about the length of your run. With the VFFs, I've been constantly tinkering with my running style so everything feels natural. To get used to the absence of cushion, I have to shorten my stride and go at a slightly slower pace. There were initial issues with toe-stubbing, but that ended quickly. At first, I would run more on the balls of my feet and my toes, but it was uncomfortable and I've adjusted to coming down on a more mid-foot point. Blisters are a little bit of a problem, and I'm guessing it's because I'm now running without socks. My feet aren't used to this style, so I need to toughen them up a bit. I've been going on more, shorter runs (my latest was the longest: 3.8 miles) to get them adjusted and I walk around barefoot as often as I can, in order to get a consistent motion. The other, more insignificant, drawback is the VFFs tend to make your feet stink, but they are machine-washable and i use a bit of foot powder (it seems to help). There's a lot of adjustment, but it feels so neat and natural. Also, I can run two or three miles in them and I get a great burn in my calves and quads that feels like I've run 12 miles. You should really consider a pair.
  4. Add my fantasy team to the huge blow list. I had to pick up Rafael Furcal.
  5. I haven't come back to update this yet, but I found myself a pair of Vibram FiveFingers. Here are a couple pics of them. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs150.snc4/36864_606981199848_219701744_34867514_1932693_n.jpg http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/hs070.ash2/36864_606981209828_219701744_34867515_6910799_n.jpg They're insanely comfortable just to wear around. However, they do take some getting used to. I've been easing into using them full-time, and I'm finally figuring out how to run with them. I've had some problems with blisters, but that's becoming less frequent, and my legs feel absolutely fantastic. I'd recommend these to anyone.
  6. 4) The first Interleague game in Brewers history in 1996--a 1-0 win over the Cardinals on a Jeromy Burnitz walkoff I hate to break it to you, but this wasn't the first interleague game in Brewers' history. The first was on June 13, 1997 at Wrigley Field. It was a 4-2 Brewers win. Jeff D'Amico got the win, Doug Jones got the save, and Jose Valentin hit the only home run (right-handed, even). I remember because I was there. It was one of the few big moments I've witnessed in person. I was at the game where Jimmy Ganter hit his last career home run, but I was in the bathroom when he hit it. In my defense, I was only six. My dad still hasn't forgiven me for that.
  7. I personally don't give a crap about Notre Dame. I'd almost rather see them take Nebraska and Missouri from the Big 12 and Pittsburgh, Rutgers, and Syracuse from the Big East. If Notre Dame wants to make a big deal about their independence, I say let them have it. Worry about ND for too long will leave the Big Ten vulnerable to missing out on other schools. With all the talk about the Big 12 dissolving, Kansas looks to be on the outside looking in (Link). With Nebraska being the finger in the proverbial dam keeping the Big 12 from falling apart, I'd offer a spot in the new Big Ten to Kansas instead of Syracuse (provided Kansas could be added without K-State).
  8. If you can find it you might want to save a bottle Well, turds... I wish I would have known that a couple months ago. I bought it at the Piggly Wiggly in Hartland, and they had bottles of it for a while. Maybe I'll check and see if there's still some there after work, but I doubt it.
  9. I have. I didn't think it was that impressive. To me, it didn't differ too much from the regular Blue Moon (or at least not enough to justify the price difference).
  10. I love running and I love being barefoot, so this thread got me thinking about combining the two. The wife and I are going to be giving this a shot and I even found a pair of the Vibram FiveFingers in her size. She already helped me change my style and I've been running more on the balls of my feet and reducing my heel-strike for almost two years now. My knees don't give me nearly as many problems as they used to and my legs as a whole are much stronger. I'm not going to start completely barefoot and I'm trying to find a pair of FiveFingers in my size. Either way, I'm kind of excited to see how this goes.
  11. Here's the pitch in question. This is setting up high and tight? Give me a break. (sorry, the only program I had at my disposal was paint)
  12. Regular season baseball. That is all.
  13. I'm at work today and won't be able to watch the game. I'm thinking about taking my lunch break at about 1 p.m. and going up to Mo's in Tosa to catch the first part of the game.
  14. I'm taking part in a fantasy league for the first time this year. Our draft was last night, and I think I'm happy with my roster. I'm posting it below because, since I'm new at this, I would take any pointers I can get. It's not a keeper league and there's head-to-head scoring (still not fully certain how that works). I just get the feeling that the match-ups will start and I won't be sure what I'm doing. C Victor Martinez, Bos C, 1B 1B Adrian Gonzalez, SD 1B 2B Chase Utley, Phi 2B 3B Chone Figgins, Sea 3B SS Troy Tulowitzki, Col SS 2B/SS Elvis Andrus, Tex SS 1B/3B Adam Dunn, Was 1B, OF OF Jayson Werth, Phi OF OF Carlos Gonzalez, Col OF OF Jason Kubel, Min OF, DH OF Jason Heyward, Atl OF OF Nyjer Morgan, Was OF SP Zack Greinke, KC SP SP Javier Vazquez, NYY SP SP Josh Johnson, Fla SP SP Matt Garza, TB SP SP Scott Kazmir, LAA SP RP Heath Bell, SD RP RP Rafael Soriano, TB RP Bench Rickie Weeks, Mil 2B Bench Kurt Suzuki, Oak C Bench Juan Rivera, LAA OF Bench Garrett Jones, Pit 1B, OF Also, I can carry 2 players on the DL. Does anyone think it would be worth picking up Erik Bedard now or waiting since he won't be ready until mid-season?
  15. I was hoping I could actually make it this year since I live near Milwaukee now. Unfortunately, I'll be at a wedding that day...in Fargo.
  16. My wife and I did that last year with a couple of friends. The 26 hour estimate sounds about right. We went from Platteville to Flagstaff, stayed there, and then drove to Phoenix the next day. We drove straight through, only stopping for food and bathroom breaks. It's a fun trip, but it stinks if you have trouble sleeping in your vehicle. If I were to do it again, I'd like to take a couple days to make the drive and plan some stops in between.
  17. I smashed my finger between two large chunks of limestone a couple years ago while at work. My finger swelled up a lot and the nail was purple/black. I did what you did and whittled through the nail. It felt much better. Mine took three months to fall off, but when it did, the nail was completely grown underneath it.
  18. It looks like this one could inspire a caption contest: http://cmsimg.wausaudailyherald.com/apps/pbcsi.dll/bilde?NewTbl=1&Site=U0&Date=20100222&Category=GPG01&ArtNo=2220814&Ref=PH&Item=1&Maxw=542&Maxh=352&q=60 Jason...come back! I'll never pinch-hit for you again!
  19. I never really cared that much about the road jerseys not saying "Milwaukee," but now that I see one, I think it looks pretty sharp. I also would like to see an alternate cap with a ball-and-glove logo in the current colors, for purely selfish reasons. Personally, I don't think the updated logo would look good with the script-style lettering on the front of the jersey. I'd rather the team stick with the "M" but sell me the aforementioned hat.
  20. I just got married three and a half months ago. Looking back on it, eloping would have been much cheaper and I don't think either one of us would have minded. That being said, it was a great day and a lot of fun. One of the best parts of it was both of us were intent on keeping it cheap. -Keep invitations simple. You're only getting once piece of paper back, why make it fancy? -My wife bought her dress on sale and she still loved it. -I had a friend of mine take photos. He was a professional, but gave us a big discount. -Two words: Fake Flowers. Seriously, my wife and I put together her bouquet and the bridesmaids' bouquets ourselves and they cost us a total of about $20. Hobby stores have a nice assortment. Some thought the idea was cheap, but no one noticed. -Definitely try to get the buffet option, but make sure your place offers it. Our hall only offer plated dinners, but we didn't have any other choice in the area. -Keep your wedding party small. -Don't have a formal gift opening, they take a long time, and they're really awkward to sit through. -Cheap thank yous. People will care more what you write. We did all of these things and we came in under $8,000. That being said, that would help toward a down-payment on a house. Eloping...think about it...
  21. A lineup with Jason Kendall, Scott Podsednik, and Yuniesky Betancourt? That would make my eyes bleed.
  22. Coming from Hartland to Wauwatosa was a nightmare. I left home at about 7:20 a.m. and I pulled into work a little after 9 a.m. The commute home is going to be a nightmare. A truer statement has never been typed.
  23. I'm actually hoping for a good amount of snow. I really don't want to go to work on Friday, but I know the other traffic problems that come with snow, so I have a hard time actively rooting for it. It would give me a chance to play outside with my camera.
  24. I just drove from Hartland to Delafield and back. Fun was the right word, DatHoser.
  25. I started a series by Bob Woodward examining the Bush White House. I'm almost done with the first book and it's very interesting. I have high hopes for my reading list. I have two more books from that series, a book on Mark Felt (also by Woodward), A People's History of the United States by Howard Zinn, and Walter Cronkite's autobiography. I'd also like to find a couple good books on Russian history and Plain Honest Men, the Making of the US Constitution by Richard Beeman. Yes, I read mostly nonfiction and history books. I'm more than open to suggestions of good fiction from the Brewerfan faithful.
