  1. He played pretty well last year. He only hit .246 and finished with a .736 OPS - but that was primarily because of a late-season slump. I thought for sure he earned a promotion to AA and it would be good for him to get out of the oppressive Brevard County ballpark environment. I immediately wondered if he was going to be disappointed with his assignment this year and would give him a shot at AA just to give him a clean slate. He could be frustrated with the lack of movement and his numbers regressing this year could be the result. I say give him 45 days in AA and see what happens. Otherwise, he's withering on the vine.
  2. This is great stuff. Thanks for sharing.
  3. I just had something pop up on my phone that the Brewers signed Ex-Boston commit, SS Antonio Pinero. How does he stack up compared to the others we signed? I don't know him.
  4. I love the move - it's about time the Brewers don't accept mediocrity as acceptable. Melvin would never have done this. You produce or don't - all options are evaluated. This is about raising the bar for the franchise. It's about time. I'm becoming interested suddenly when the dynamics change. Great sign.
  5. Candidate: Michael Girsch Current role: Assistant General Manager (Cardinals) Skill set: Girsch will get looks because of the Cardinals’ run of success, but the 37-year-old AGM with an MBA has the goods to back it up. He's run the Cardinals Baseball Development division, which oversees the team's impressive data management and analytics efforts. For as much coverage as "The Cardinal Way" got as a magic book of sorcerer's spells, the reality is that it's a boring technical manual on player development, but one that starts with the question "What do we know about what actually works?" In the front office, where understanding the process is key, Girsch's background fits beautifully with what's expected of the new breed of GM. I believe that Girsch's brother lives in Milwaukee somewhere and they grew up in Chicago - nearby. I'm not saying that would make a difference, but it might to Girsch.
  6. No way Davis would clear waivers with his age and contract situation. But given the glut of OF'ers in our system that will be part of the future rebuild, I would expect Davis to be dealt as early as this offseason - or perhaps the following offseason.
  7. I'm anxious to see how Suter does as well. He's performed everywhere but doesn't seem to have great raw stuff. CO Springs could be a tough place to pitch.
  8. We really appreciate all you and others do for the site, Mass. I do miss Toby's Power 50 weekly updates - it used to be one of my weekly highlights.
  9. Apologies if there is a previous Arcia topic - I didn't find it in my search. ESPN's Keith Law published today and updated Top 25 Minor League Baseball Prospects and Arcia moved up to #20. It's behind the Insider pay wall so I know (as previously chastised) I can't publish the entire article here. That said, this is a bit of what he said about Arcia in his review: Arcia has had one of the minors' biggest breakout campaigns to date, walking more than he has struck out while hitting .325/.382/.450 for Biloxi, along with above-average defense at short. His power has come out now that he's out of the graveyard of high Class A Brevard County as well, and he should be the Brewers' long-term shortstop starting at some point in 2016. If I inadvertently created any problems - course correct as needed. I'm not a huge Keith Law fan but it's good to know that Arcia is finally getting some attention nationally.
  10. Jeff Kent was supposedly an insane jerk as well. Can you imagine that clubhouse? I know Kent left in the early 2000's, but still.
  11. I miss many people. Good to see Brian chime in. I'm hoping things are looking up for you, Brian. Thanks for all you've done here. I definitely miss AndThat and the monthly Power 50. He always had (has) great insight. I miss when the board was active and topics and debate were frequent. I wish all those guys that have been mentioned would re-appear.
  12. Yes....thanks to all for your contributions. The link report is the beginning to a good day for me. Your work is greatly appreciated.
  13. Geez.... Where is Toby when we need him??? I have fond memories looking forward to the P50 "back in the day."
  14. Thanks, Pogo. The ability to insure the contract could be an issue - say Milwaukee has access to past scans and notices the condition has been there awhile and still wants to move forward - now that it's been discovered, it could make the contract uninsurable (most contracts are insured in some fashion). That could be a consideration. Also, if Garza insists he's healthy, they may be seeking additional medical opinions.
  15. Thanks for the love - I still have some old school cred! Hawing busting out a Ulice Payne reference! I tend to only report things I know first hand - and this is second hand but I know the source. Plus, something unusual seems to be happening. I could be completely wrong - and if I am I apologize. I'd like Garza, surely over Jimenez - but it's odd that the deal leaks and his medical evaluation occurs - and then silence and backpedaling - and more silence.
  16. I don't know how legit this is, but I was told this morning that the MRI revealed a partially torn labrum in his pitching shoulder. Garza has said it has no impact on his shoulder and he's perfectly healthy. I was told it might kill the deal and Jimenez would become the next target. Don't piledrive me - but the person who told me said his source is quite solid. Take it for what it's worth.
  17. Olive, the Other Reindeer. Hilarious. I'm pretty sure it was written by the guys that write "The Simpson's."
  18. Maybe a move in anticipation of a possible Braun suspension?
  19. A big "thank you" in advance. Your work is one of my highlights of baseball season - my first stop every morning to evaluate the kids. Thanks to all of you.
  20. Welcome back, GSP.
  21. This is great reading. Thanks for all the work, Rams.
  22. Guys...I wanted to thank you for the great teammwork in creating the Link Report without fail. No doubt it's a lot of work. I'm sure it's appreciated by many. I know there is a thread dedicated somewhere to this but nobody would mind if I snuck in another thank you during the daytime in a random thread.
  23. Loved the insight, Ram. Thanks for the exceptional effort.
