  1. It's sad when things turn out like this. I probably saw 90% of all his box scores. Mike...you gave it your all and we thank you for the service. I can't imagine how hard it is to get to the spot where your retire in the minors after being a first round pick. No doubt you gave it all you had. I wish you the best of luck in the future.
  2. Sifting through the link report is a morning ritual - I'll miss it. Thanks for all the excellent effort.
  3. I'm not sure if this has been talked about, but those of you in the Milwaukee area can have access to some exciting college baseball prospects beginning next summer. Concordia University has received approval to expand their baseball facilities and add lights. A new team from the Northwoods Baseball League will be situated in Mequon, WI during the summer. They play something like 75 games, almost every summer evening (home or away). This is a wood-bat league and has produced many major leaguer's. Looks like they will begin play next summer. I'm sure you'll hear more details. Tickets are something like 5 bucks and the games begin at 6 PM or something like that from what I've heard. It's an interesting chance for Milwaukee locals to get an eye on some top college players.
  4. Wow....whatever has gotten into Merklinger, I hope it's permanent. Aside from his previous outing, he's been dominant the last month. I never thought I would say that.
  5. I agree about Bush. Eight of his last nine starts have been quality starts. Someone would grab him for sure. Heck, Milwaukee would claim a guy like that in a second.
  6. Man....with Cody Adams, Evan Frederickson, Seth Lintz, Arnett, etc., I'd rather have Melvin pick from someone with more of a track record than trust the crapshoot of the draft. They've had too many high draft pick misses on pitching for me to be comfortable with the, "take the draft picks in the future approach." Additionally, we won't see any possible impact for years from that approach.
  7. Butler really sharp so far today. Hopefully he's rounding back into shape.
  8. The first thing that came to mind was 4 years, $25 million. If he has "the breakthrough" season this year, the price will jump.
  9. Mass....I wanted to thank you and the rest of the team for all the work to get these thread's teed up with information and links, and then backfill with news stories and commentary. It's easily one of my favorite parts of the baseball season. I know this is "off topic," but seems less intrusive than creating a new thread somewhere.
  10. Knowing this is the beginning of a bachelor party, I'd recommend Fire Ridge. It's owned by the McGillicudy's folks. They know how to throw a party. Their bar/restaurant is always staffed by fun, attractive folks, just like their downtown bar. The food isn't bad either. It's the "most fun place" of the ones you're pursuing.
  11. Thanks Mass. Even the folks in the caves in Pakistan know the date. I was just getting anxious and jogging you to marshall the resources and prepare one of my favorite parts of Brewers baseball......Power 50 time!
  12. **cough, cough** April update? **cough, cough**
  13. I'm concerned as well. He's been no better than replacement level for 1.5 years now. I was hoping he'd get it going again this year, but changing his vision approach seems desperate at this point. I hope he figures it out soon...both for himself and Milwaukee. Edmonds and Gerut could end up playing quite a bit if Gomez and Hart struggle.
  14. I'm bullish on the 2010 Milwaukee Brewer season. Last March I was critical of the approach at starting pitching. One injury and we'd have plenty of starts from players that should not be starting games. With that pitching staff, and to lose Rickie for most of the season....to be near .500 was amazing in my opinion. This year is different. They'll have some bumps along the way, but everyone does. I like the depth of the roster, particularly at pitcher (finally!). We have some untested folks and question marks. Will Gomez finally become an everyday player? Will McGehee backslide in his sophomore season? Will Escobar be solid or even better at shortstop? Can Rickie stay healthy? Will Braun and Prince continue their performances? Will the offense and defense at catching be improved over last year? What is going on with Corey Hart? What impact will Rick Petersen have on the many arms that struggled last year? As I said, I'm bullish this season. I like the depth on the roster. I'm predicting 92 victories and a return to post-season play. What say you?
  15. SZ called my guy. Cristian Guererro. I also expected Josh Murray to put it all together. Couple of disappointing, major flameouts.
  16. I believe that is quite insightful. I agree that Peterson will play a significant role in the trajectory of ZB's development.
  17. I don't have comments or questions, Patrick. I did however, want to thank you for the excellent work. You are one of the many tremendous assets of this site, and I always look forward to your fantastic articles and speculative works.
  18. Scared? Why? We were way ahead of the curve and breaking numerous stories related to the end of the Selig ownership.
  19. This is probably some hopeful rumor-mongering at best, so I'm calling into question the source. But it makes for an interesting read: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/263131-prince-fielder-on-the-trading-block-could-be-a-good-sign-for-the-mets
  20. As Brett always reminds everyone, "It's MY legacy, not the public's." He'll do whatever he wishes I guess. I've lost so much respect for him. Anyway, I'm going to MN tomorrow for the game with some friends.
  21. I've almost always received responses back from Bob McGinn, the Packer reporter extraordinaire.
  22. Excuse my paranoia....but Jake hasn't pitched in awhile. I was surprised he didn't begin in Wisconsin, so we had to wait for him to appear in Helena, and after a handful of appearances, he's disappeared from what I can tell. Anybody know why?
  23. Amen....sellers, not buyers. I expect we'll give away some prospects to act as if we're "going for it," but I think we should be looking to move guys if possible. There is a lack of pitching, so why not Suppan's contract? Given me two Braden Loopers for next season for Suppan, or Randy Wolf and Looper and save a few million.
