  1. Helms hasnt done squat all year and there are better options than him.It seems like its been weeks since he hit a single ball hard. Also while is Hall sitting so much.I realize Craig takes some walks, but hes hitting around .200 and my 11 year old has more power than Craig does.
  2. I was a catcher for 8 years, those are very very tough to handle. The ball really skips when it hits the dirt since its usually coming on a line from the outfield.Plus with all the equiptment on you just arent as flexible and a catchers glove isnt designed for catching quick shorthops.Last you have a runner bearing down on you that you can't really see usually, but you can just sense is getting close.Your supposed to focus on the ball and not the runner, that's easier said that done.I got bowled over so hard once when i wasn't looking at the runner while waiting for the ball,it felt like it took 5 minutes to take in my next breath.Once that happens,it's not easy to avoid peaking out of the corner of your eye to see how close the runner is.
  3. We are catching some serious breaks today with the wind blowing in,saved us at least 2-3 home runs.Mix in 9 walks, crazy they only have 3 runs.
  4. I'm more impressed by Overbay's home run power than his doubles.Prior to the year starting i expected him to hit for a fairly high average and lots of doubles, that was his MO every year in the minors.I like the fact he's hit some really nice home runs, his 4 haven't been wallscrapers that only went out with a short porch. He's never going to be a masher, but 20-25 HR's dont seem out of the question, even if 25ish might be stretching it. I was glad he was included in the trade,i just thought he'd be this kind of hitter later in the year.I expected him to stuggle a bit more early on and then find his groove as the at bats racked up.You dont fluke your way to a .350 BA every year in the minors, even if its a hitters league. So far the comparison to Mark Grace looks pretty fair,he just needs to walk a little more.
  5. The one thing i'll say about Davis,i never feel like the grim reaper is right around the corner when i know he's starting,i cant say that when Kinney/Obie are starting. As for Lyle, the dude has a funky swing, but many it's productive. He pretty much is all arms and upper body with his swing. It almost looks like he's leaning backwards on one foot when he swings,i dont think i've ever seen a guy hit like that before.Oh well,it works.
  6. That whole inning was a mess and to be fair to Yost/Bennett,if the defense didnt fall apart they wouldnt have scored all those runs. They scored 5 runs on 1 hard hit ball, the one Griffey hit.The rest were errors by Ginter/Pods and 2 bleeder hit balls off good pitches that just squibed there way up the base lines.Alot of bad defense and bad luck turned a 1 run inning into a 5 run inning. As others stated it was bad roster management,Yost went into this game with a struggling SP and very little bullpen to back him up.What was their plan if Obie got shelled early in the game or if the game went 12-13 innings??
  7. soriano was never 40-40. He came close once. Ok i should have said a 39/41 guy,big mistake by me.Or a 38/35 guy he was last year. Hall is a poor mans Soriano whether he has DONE it or not. He IS and will be. Just how poor of a version are we talking about??Last year Hall between AAA and in the bigs had 11 SB's and 13 CS.Will Hall EVER be remotely close to the basestealer Soriano is??Soriano had nearly back to back 40 HR seasons in a park brutal to righthanded power hitters. You think Hall could hit 30 HR's playing in Yankee stadium, much less 39/38?? The only comparisons i see between Hall/Soriano is both avoid walks like they are anthrax and both have great bat speed.I could see Hall hit 20-25 HR's with 500 AB's,damn good for a middle infielder if he does ever do it.I just think your really reaching in comparing the two since Hall isnt nearly as fast or doubtfull he'll ever have 30+ HR power. Why Bennett and not Burba??
  8. nope....but....hall is a poor mans soriano.....just like I said he was 3 months ago. Let's see Hall be a 20/20 guy before we even call him a poor mans version of a 40/40 guy.Hall should be playing 5 times a week though. I also said it was a 2 way race for 1st and a 4 way race for 3. Not bad! It's May 6th Plenty of time for St. Louis to seperate from the bottom feeders.
  9. I was merely making a point about how a few pitches add up over a season, and using Sheets' numbers as an example. Let's not make it out like Sheets is some rare or evem fairly rare example of throwing to many pitches the last few years or this year.Even saber GM's who check every stat let their young pitchers throw alot of pitches. Sheets was at 99 ppg last year and threw 3365 pitches, less than young guys like Halladay/Zito/Pineiro.I've never heard their managers or management called abusers of pitchers.Prior to tonight Ben was at 93ppg,but i do think he was left in a hitter or two more than needed tonight. With that said to extrapolate to thats a sure thing he's abused and DL bound is a big stretch.
  10. RyDogg, when only 3 of the guys out there are TRULY reliable, I think it's safe to say that the bullpen as a whole sucks. Look around baseball, there are alot of teams with poor to very bad bullpens.Teams like the Red Sox/Yanks have great pens, but both those pens are about expensive as our whole payroll. There are others with a nice to solid pen,but bullpen woes certainly arent just a Brewer problem, its fairly widespread.
  11. Watching Bennett i wonder if the guy will ever be good enough long term to bother keeping him here all year.He only throws in the low 90's and i he doesn't look like he'll ever be starter material. I would expect struggles from a young guy like him,but even when he's got outs he hasnt looked very impressive.
  12. That was funny Last inning they stare at every pitch right down the middle, now they swing at 6 straight pitches off the plate.
  13. I wasnt having a good vibe with Brooks coming in,glad he proved me wrong. The guy has been great lately.
  14. R.Halladay 109 ppg Hudson 100 ppg Clemens 104 ppg Vazquez 102 ppg Penny 104 ppg Oswalt 104 ppg Redman 100 ppg O.Perez 102 ppg W.Miller 103 ppg Schilling 113 ppg Wood 110 ppg K.Wells 107 ppg Ben has averaged 104 pitches per start -with two of those starts Ben throwing MORE than 120 pitches. Im sorry, but that's abuse. According to your view, nearly every manager in baseball abuses there pitchers.
  15. Davis reminds me of Scott Karl.Extremely hittable, but just enough command of his pitches to not implode on a regular basis.Would be a solid No.5 starter on a good team, sadly is our second best starter.
  16. I agree,i was almost hoping he'd walk Wilson,i had a bad vibe the whole at bat. That would be like pitching to Jenkins in that situation while Helms is on deck.
  17. I also agree that this could be a letdown series No offense Rydogg, but we aren't good enough to consider losing to any team being a let down as a reason for losing.
  18. Ugg Hall/Ginter riding the pine Helm's must mow Yost's lawn and wash his car daily.
  19. I'm bummed i missed attending the game, the early start stopped me from being able to go. I gotta say it's games like these last two that are a big reason i love sports, unpredictable free entertainment.Flick on the TV and things look like a sure loss, bam an amazing comeback.Any win in sports by your team is nice to watch, but nothing beats an unprobable comeback victory. I was watching the game and had a good vibe when Hall was up with the bases juiced. When he hit that gapper that's the loudest i've yelled for a Brewer game in quite awhile, even more than yesterdays game. This have been a fun beginning of the year to wtch so far, hopefully Hall's play will get him more starts. He has legit power for a middle INF,if he can learn to get on base he'll have a nice career. That boy really has a quick bat.
  20. WOW!!! Helms actually waited till the second pitch before weakly making an out.
  21. To me, there looks to be an overall "confidence" problem with the staff I'd call it a talent problem,Kinney is a scrub,he just pulls a J.Wright/Quevedo once i awhile with a nice start to make people think the "talent" is there to be some sort of success. Yea maybe it's true these guys like Kinney/Hernandez nibble to much, but it's because they don't trust their stuff,it's not hard to see how hittable all these fringe pitchers are. Kinney to me is a Jimmy Haynes clone, both throw in the 90-92 range and it's straight as an arrow.Since both lack command, they either get behind in the count to much or throw it right down the middle. Both only have/had jobs because we have 30 teams and have to fill out those rosters. They are pretty much garbage, but as long as there are broke teams that are short on young pitchers, fans of those teams will have to suffer through watching them stink up the joint.
  22. I say give the kid at least one more start, what would be the harm??I doubt if he gets hit hard his next start that it will hurt his confidence long term.Granted he made a large jump from just 2 starts in AA,but you see that more and more with guys skipping AAA,even if most are bigger time prospects. One nice thing by seeing the game clips was he looks to have an out pitch,he was throwing some NASTY benders.
  23. I spent 90 percent of my teen years in a drug induced fog,so 420 was a very common part of our crowds vernacular.Thinking back at it now,it's funny all the different terms those in the drug crowd came up with for a variety of things, kind of like our own language.I could hold conversations about partying and drugs over the phone right in front of my dad and he'd be clueless to what i was talking about.
  24. This series is a prime example of what seperates contenders from pretenders, pitching.I love all our great position prospects, but we better pray some of the pitchers pan out also. I know its early, but we are right back at the bottom of the pitching stats,5 1/2 runs a game and not much to make things look like it will get better anytime soon.
  25. I know its very very early, but it would be nice to see Jones striking out a few more hitters.
