  1. I had no confidence Moeller would drive him in,i was feeling a DP or K,sadly i was correct. 2-0 on Grieve, why not have him take?
  2. I fear we will struggle badly all year vs lefties.Jenkins is brutal against them,Pods is a bit worse against them, and Overbay while doing fine so far vs lefties, still looks ugly at times facing them. Those 3 are the main cogs of our lineup, plus a lefty puts Grieve on the bench in favor of Brady ground ball Clark.
  3. In general i think closers are overrated to a degree and overpaid, but Gagne is one of the exceptions. This guy is flat out filthy,i had zero hope a comeback was a possibility.A 99mph fastball,75 mph change, and a nasty bender all with incredible command.Crazy good.
  4. Jenkins sure looks ugly vs lefthanders.
  5. Nice win,we caught a little break though when Ginter wasnt called out on strikes.Davis sure keeps us in games,i think the guy actually might be legit solid. My only peave was seeing Clark in the lineup,Grieve is hitting well,i never feel confident good will happen when Brady is batting.
  6. Brewers get BK Kim, Anastacio Martinez, and Luis Terrero....D'Backs get Matt Wise, Chris Coste, and Scott Williamson...Red Sox get Randy Johnson.... I hope you are joking. Why the hell would the DBacks trade RJ for a 30 year old AAA catcher,a AAA reliever, and a reliever with a bum elbow??Are they also gonna trade Sexson for Tanyon Sturtze and Félix Heredia.
  7. It has been odd how few K's Kolb has this year,i cant remember the last time he struck a guy out.He does have a .66 ERA so thats all that matters. Nice game by Hall,i saw on the news the great play he made on top of his base clearing triple.
  8. The good sign is today wasnt exactly a fluke. He always had two 10K games and two 7K games,it's only May.Mix in the fact he never walks anybody,it's all a really good sign.
  9. That was the best pitching performance by a Brewer i've ever seen.It almost seemed like Sheets was a mind reader, whatever the Brave hitter thought was coming Sheets threw the other.Great velocity, great curve, and great command. Been AGES since we had a dominating starter, almost forgot what it was like.
  10. Why the hell would they pull Grieve down runs??Ned has been making some bizzare moves lately.
  11. That whole Helms at bat i was wishing Grieve was batting after Overbay,i had no confidence Helms would do anything positive.
  12. 3 bad righthanded hitters to face a guy with a nasty slider??
  13. Nice Crowd=Loss and no offense it seems the last few years
  14. The ball just jumps off Hall's bat,if he can learn how to walk some that kid will have a nice career.
  15. Thing is Davis doesn't throw that soft.He can hit the high 80's at times,Moyer is more like a lefthanded version of Doug Jones.Low low 80's fastball and a changeup so slow it could barely break glass.
  16. Nice to see Gwynn go yard, even if its an abberation. Also Parra went 4 unscathed, that guy IMO is nearly as important as any prospect we have.
  17. JP had Doug Melvin on his pre-game show a few days ago and they talked about Adams and Bausher being "stretched out"... I didn't get to listen to the interview (it's archived online, so I'll do that soon), but JP talked about it later during the broadcast and said that they weren't converting Bausher and Adams to starters. Rather, they want them to work through the order a few times so they develop secondary and tertiary pitches. Both are still relief prospects in his mind, and this is just a way to make them better once they get to the bigs. I've never seen either pitch nor can i claim i know enough to say that is a good or wrong choice.I do think though there is nothing wrong with keeping legit prospect arms in relief roles as minor leaguers. The bullpen is often the most underrated aspect of big league teams. great or good pen can equate to quite a few wins for a team and a bad pen can bring doom. Bullpen arms maybe easier to find that quality starters, but it doesnt mean they aren't very important. If Bausher or Adams can become a quality arm out of the pen for a few years, that's a big find for the team.
  18. I wonder is Trent is on the team mainly because he's fast, they want that quick pinch runner factor. Not what i'd advocate, but not many logical reasons besides that sound reasonable.
  19. The thing i wonder about Bennett is,does he have enough upside to carry on the roster all year?? His fastball doesnt look overly explosive and his slider isnt devastaing. He doesnt look to have enough pitches to start,so he looks to be a career bullpen guy at best. What about his upside am i missing that justifies having a guy your petrified to use for a whole season??
  20. Good for Wes He's got plenty of flack, from me included, hope it gets hi out of his funk. This team is amazing this year when it comes to dramatic games.
  21. Yea it sure seems like there have been a ton of long extra inning games in the majors this year. Its just crazy how we become futile at the plate in extras.
  22. Until Hall can raise his OBP to a more respectable level, he isn't going to fit into any spot in the lineup as well as Counsell fits in the # 2 spot. Why is either Ginter/Spivey batting in the 2 spot and Hall batting 7th/8th a worse lineup than Craig hitting in the 2 hole??Both Ginter/Spivey get on base better than Counsell does and a fly swatter has more power than Counsell. Then at the bottom of the order you have Hall and his overall superior offensive skills in the lineup vs Counsell's. The difference between on offense Counsell and Hall certainly isn't enough to have a big effect on the teams record.Plus i agree Counsell is probably the better defender right now,so any gain at the plate gets washed out in the field. In the end the way i see it Hall is young Counsell is old.So i'd play the younger player more than the older one given we already know Craig's ceiling,it's the floor.Anyway you slice it a sub .650 OPS hitter is a BAD hitter, his age would be the final nail in the coffin for me.
  23. The second hitter in the lineup is still more about OBP than OPS. Since when is it a rule the SS has to bat 2nd? That .624 OPS Counsell sports is about as bad as it gets for a player getting regular playing time.If it was just a small sample i'd say give him time, but last year he posted a whopping .631 OPS,downright pathetic. In 400 at bats the last 2 years he has 16 extra base hits, that's almost hard to do it's so bad.A .750ish OPS hitter is simply more productive than a .625 OPS hitter,it's not even arguable. If we want batters on base at the top of the order, bat Ginter or Spivey in the 2/3 slots and hit Hall 7th.
  24. I'm amazed Craig ever gets walked,if i was pitching i'd groove him one fastball after another. He has the power of a little leaguer, why walk a guy who at best will hit a single??
