    I loved when they showed we were 3rd last in hits with RISP,with a .233 batting average.They forgot to include thats practically our team batting average.

    Angels have impressed me.Lot's of injuries,Colon/Percival struggling badly,and yet they are still in first place.I've seen them play a few times,very enjoyable team to watch play.

    I've not understood the obsession with height in baseball.Baseball isn't football where you have a height and size in general is an incredible factor.A pitcher or catcher isn't being covered by a huge linebacker,a 95 mph fastball from a 5'10 pitcher is still hard to hit.

    I've in general given up getting either to excited or upset about any sports draft after what happened to the Packers in the 90's.I forget the exact year,but i was watching the draft and was getting all angry as we made the picks.We took a bunch of guys i thought were major reaches and some guys who i thought had no chance to help much.We took B.Williams,Freeman,Henderson,Chmura,Timmerman,McKenzie and someone else i forget.I thought we passed on a bunch of superior players,considered the draft a disaster.It was also given horrible draft grades by the socalled draft gurus,lots of D's and C- type of grades.A few years later that draft was a vital core in the rise of the Packers to title contender. Drafting of players in any sport is such an inexact science,even great scouts or GM's have fairly high failure rates.Baseball is even more extreme in this factor,you draft 50 kids and if 5 succeed and play in the bigs you had a great draft.Jack Z has had so much success that i have a hard time questioning choices he makes even if i might not have done the same.I still remember people thought Ron Wolf had lost his mind trading a 1st round pick for a raw third string barfly QB who a year earlier had been drafted in the 2nd round.Even though Wolf made mistakes also,i learned to give him the benefit of the doubt,when it comes to the baseball draft,i feel the same with Jack Z until proven otherwise.

    The Gammons article stated from 1988-1999 62% of first round college pitchers made it to the bigs and 43% of HS pitchers did the same.While that obviously shows the odds favor the college guys,it's hardly enough to predict near sure gloom and doom like Greg stated.The team essentially assumed about an extra 20% risk to draft a guy they thought had a higher ceiling,i can live with that. As it is,plenty of those college arms drafted in the first 2 rounds will be either busts or midling major league pitchers.In your gambling analogy you likened it it to gambling without knowing the odds and percentages.Well playing the percentages will over the long haul is in your best interests,but each hand or race your betting on is it's own entity.Sometimes you place your bet on the the riskier choice in hopes of a bigger payoff.Those bets while not ALWAYS prudent,can payoff big.I trust Jack Z enough that i dont think he just randomly bet the trifecta instead of the quinella without reason.Now if i felt he took a hit with 20 showing,i'd be in your camp.

    I like the pick,i have a good vibe about him.Then again it's based on absolutely nothing since i've yet to see him throw a pitch.How's that for a big time endorsement??

    They also have some fairly high level pitching prospects in the upper minors,no big need to get a college guy that can be ready ASAP. Time will tell on how he pans out,i think he overpaid for Bradley.Still from what i've read on him he seems not only a smart guy,but not narrow minded either.He has some bright scouts,i'd assume he's not going to just ignore them or a HS talent he likes just to fit a philosophy.

    Another game nearly devoid of extra base hits,just the homer by Ginter.It seems for like a month our offense is nothing but singles and walks,hard to score runs that way.

    Man,when is the Fielder/Weeks freefall gonna end??I know both have plenty of time to turn things around,but i do admit to getting a bit concerned,even if its a minor concern.I just keep waiting to see some 3-4 or 3-5 games with some extra base hits,then you check and its 0-4 or 1-4 with a single.

    Both Bennett and Brady are ground ball machines,weakly hit ones at that.Everytime each guy is at the plate with a guy on first,i'm thinking DP.

    I'm bummed i'll probably miss the game tommorrow,horrible timing with Ben's debut.Glad i live in a ime where TV can be taped. As for tonight,great pitching job,albiet against a really sad lineup.Being a Dodger fan must be painfull,watching that lineup 162 games is nothing more than a sleeping aide.Davis though still got the out,what a blessing he's been.

    Guys like him are a ticking time bomb,it's obvious this won't be the last idiotic tirade from Milton.Teams dont need a bunch of choir boys,but this cat is a bad seed.Like someone else said,imgine if Tracy hadnt been there,looked to me like the ump was gonna get a right cross to the jaw.

    I love this Saenz kid,am i alone in thinking he should rank up there with any of our pitching prospects??He gives up less hits per innings pitched,doesnt walk batters,and strikes guys out.Each one of those i thought were the best indicators of a pitchers upside.Jones may have a better arm and other things scouts drool over,but he's been injury prone as of late and his numbers weren't anymore impressive in AA than Seanz so far.He's my main beef in Toby's Top 50,i can't see how he can be ranked 24th.I'm more excited about his future than a few of the arms ranked ahead of him.

    This last week or two goes to show just how much Overbay was carrying the offense.Now that he's cooled off the offense has gone in the tank,it's time other guys do something.If Overbay hadnt gone on that major tear,we'd be talking about a struggling offense for quite awhile.

    Helps we faced the Dodgers Without S.Green hitting,that lineup they put out is really really bad. I didnt like the bunt with Pods at second and 0 outs,but bunting Ginter there was the right call IMO.With two guys on,a DP is an inning killer,i just never expected a bunt to end the game.
