  1. Sometimes you need a little help from the baseball gods. The Cardinals clearly are a good team, but yesterday they scored six runs on mostly well placed grounders and flares. Now Lohse gets pinched again.
  2. I gotta hand it to this Miller kid, i can't remember watching a young pitcher have as much success as he's been having while throwing almost entirely just fastballs.
  3. Thanks! Nah, not lost. Been lurking here since 2011. I just love baseball and like to see other fans views on things. You are welcome to post here so long as you don't make antagonist trolling comments like say Braun is steroid boy or others of that vain.
  4. Man, we have no luck vs the Cardinals. Yesterday they score 6 runs on seeing eye grounders and weak flares. Tonight the ump doesn't ring up Holliday, then he goes yard.
  5. Easily could have been a 1-2-3 inning, but balls landed in perfect spots for the Cardinals. Reminds me of the 8th inning yesterday with Axford pitching.
  6. I don't believe at all that Axford has been unlucky a lot this and that's lead to his struggles, especially early in the year when he simply was terrible. He was really bad and deserved being demoted. All i said was that today he was mostly just unlucky and prior to today, he had only given up one run over his last eight appearances. Most of us didn't get to see the game live on TV. I didn't until later tonight, so when following the game online this afternoon, i just assumed that Axford was pitching like crap. Hard not to. It was only until i actually saw what happened that i could see he wasn't leaving balls on a tee, but instead three of the four hits weren't hit hard, very easily could have been outs, and on the home run Marte hit a 96 mph fastball at his ankles about 400 plus feet. That kid sure is an impressive looking player.
  7. This isn't the first time he's had interviews under these circumstances - and every other time he's handled the interviews quite gracefully. This, however, is the first time I can recall that he appeared to let off a little steam and say something that wasn't so....graceful. He had to be frustrated. I just watched his inning and man, Axford had quite a bit of bad luck. He faced six batters 1. Snider-- Leadoff single on a weakly hit broken bat grounder that was only a hit because Segura was shifted way up the middle. 2. Marte-- Two run homer on a fastball at his ankles that he somehow golfed out of the park. 3. Tabata-- Run of the mill ground ball that got through to right as Weeks was shaded a bit up the middle. Then he steals second on a poor throw by Lucroy. 4. McCutchen- Strikes out 5. G. Jones-- Fouls out 6. Inge- Gets jammed and hits a very weak flare which barely made it over Weeks head and Tabata scores I'd be way more bothered had Axford walked hitters or left pitches right over the plate as he was doing earlier in the year, but that wasn't the case today. Three of the four hits allowed were simple bad luck and the home run pitch was closer to hitting the ground than the middle of the plate.
  8. The only chance i could see Attanasio allowing Lohse to be traded and assuming he pitches well enough to be wanted by other teams is if say 1.The team struggles to the point of finishing under .500 and worse than something like 80-82 or 79-83. 2. As the offseason progressed, both Melvin and Attanasio felt the odds were quite slim of the team being able to compete for a playoff berth next year. Unless both things happened, i just don't see any chance Lohse would get traded. It's not how either of Melvin/Attanasio operate to trade a quality veteran player before a season starts if they have any belief that the team can at least compete for a playoff berth. As for Lohse, for my personal perspective, it's been really enjoyable to watch him pitch so far. The way he attacks the strikezone, pitches quickly, and with such great command most of the time. He seems to pitch with total confidence in his stuff and ability to command all of his pitches, even though he barely touches over 90 mph. He's like the anti-Manny Parra.
  9. I've stated this before, but i can't recall another Brewers player that i disliked as much early in his tenure, only to then become one of, if not my favorite players on the team. My good buddy feels the same way. Carlos is just so fun to watch play. He not only hustles hard on every play regardless of the score, his personality strikes me as someone who would be awesome to play with. When Greinke was interviewed in spring training this year, he singled out Gomez as a guy he missed playing with. Mix in his now vastly improved hitting and Segura being similar in many ways to Gomez, those two have really changed the complexion of the lineup. They won't keep hitting above .350, but if both can remain above average hitters for their position and mix in Ramirez this week and Hart hopefully June 1st, the lineup could be seriously lethal with no pretty easy outs.
  10. In defense of Axford, athletes are human beings, not robots. So i'm sure he was already feeling like total crap in thinking he let his teammates down after blowing the lead and then getting loudly booed by his home fans has to add extra sting to the day. I know plenty of other players in baseball also get booed at home and Ax just needs to suck it up and deal with it, but emotions can still be raw for athletes who just contributed greatly to blowing a game and then not long later, a microphone gets put in your face. Sometimes then a player will say something that later they would probably take back and instead keep the thought to themselves.
  11. The only issue I have with this was the pitch Marte hit out was a ball. Even if Marte was expecting the pitch, it still took a good piece of hitting to hit it out. This is a huge reason why I believe Jim Henderson is a much better option for the 9th. Henderson certainly should remain the closer, but as has been shown countless times when trying to hold on to a small lead late, getting three outs in the 8th inning is just as important as the 9th inning. The only difference is the guy pitching in the 9th gets a save for his work. So finding someone who can be reliable in that 8th inning will be huge going forward because Henderson will just be sitting in the pen watching instead of pitching if games keep blown a lot in that 8th inning. Look at Grilli for the Pirates, had they not scored four runs in the 8th today, he wouldn't have thrown a single pitch in the series.
  12. Who is a reliable guy to be the setup guy in the pen? Besides Henderson, the whole bullpen has been very erratic. Gorzelanny has been good, but has been needed to snuff out rallies before the 8th inning, that's why he leads the pen in appearances. Both Kintzler and Badenhop haven't been consistent at all. Gonzalez has sucked. Axford prior today had only given up one run over his last 8 appearances. It's not like there are obvious answers when most of the bullpen as sucked.
  13. Who else should have he sent out there for the 8th? Prior to today's game, Axford had given up only one run in his last 8 appearances and it's not like there was another more obvious option.
  14. Both Gonzalez ans Axford love leaving 0-2 pitches right over the heart of the plate.
  15. I'm blown away by just how great Segura looks both at the plate and defensively. What a trade to steal him. The Angels have to be so bummed that they lost this kid for two months of Greinke. A young talent like him just brings a level of excitement to an organization and fans. His emergence and Gomez hitting so well has been huge in covering for Ramirez/Hart being out and when those two get back, the offense could end up being lethal.
  16. To bad Weeks didn't K because then that Gomez liner gets down since Sanchez would be near the bag
  17. Something Weeks isn't doing. It's so frustrating watching Rickie so often stand there looking at a first or second pitch fastball right down the middle of the plate and then once behind in the count, flailing badly at a pitch out of the strike zone as he end up striking out. I can't recall seeing a one time good hitter look this lost at the plate. It's almost as if he guesses wrong on what nearly every pitch will end up being.
  18. It's amazing how often he looks at a first strike right down the middle and then K's on a pitch way off the plate.
  19. I don't think that was the case with Punto up. Gonzalez just screwed up by not being able to throw strikes to a scrub hitter.
  20. No kidding. Between Nelson struggling to formulate sentences and the on field instructionals, i rarely watch Brewers Live except sometimes i tape it and fast forward to the interviews.
  21. This ump has really been squeezing Estrada on the corners
